Yes, the first xbox. And now it's terribly cheap.

Ehh Bought the JXD M1000, It seems to be more smaller and compact. Payed 85$ US for it.

then i hope you really had absolutely no space for an xbox. its way cheaper, even with all the equipment, and does tons more than the m1000

Yea I guess your right. If I dislike the JDX M1000 ill give it to one of the neighbour kids and buy an old XBOX. Hmmm.... Learning to mod an XBOX would be fun I guess. Hopefully in the future someone will be able to create a console that can almost emulate almost about everything at full speed except newer gen games for legal issues duh.

PCE, Thanks for the help.

Yes, the Xbox is a great console for emulation. But now, with the "Gamelinbox", the Dingux for Gamebox, the Gamebox console is a good choice.

Softmod your xbox install a big drive and you have the perfect emulation machine. If you have more money build your on mame machine. I use the xbox for console emulation on the tv and a real arcade machine for arcade emulation. I also use my laptop using tvout for dreamcast, saturn, and other high end emulation since the xbox cannot handle it.

I'm chiming in a bit late on this one but I use a Fujitsu Lifebook with Win XP.  Hook it through the PC port on my TV & some PC speaker located behind the TV.  Wireless keyboard, mouse & gamepad, i'm set. Also have a portable HD & DVD player.  Full setup cost me about $200 USD.  Get to use all the great emulators made for windows, able to run DOS games through Dosbox & windows games natively. And on top I can take my netbook with me for on the go gaming  :)

No love for the PS2? I've been using a soft-modded PS2 (phat, with a 500GB HDD) for emulation and it's been working great. I've never used an xbox, so I don't know how well it compares to PS2 in terms of ease-of-use and emulating power. Although I suspect setting up Stepmania on xbox is likely much easier than hacking custom songs into the PS2 version of In The Groove...
I play games on: Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GBA SP, NDS Phat, NeoGeo Pocket Color, Panasonic 3DO, Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Nomad, Sega CDX w/Power Base Converter, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, PC, EGP1000, Dingoo A330, LetCool N350JP, and (soon) GCW-Zero SE.

Ok, my friend kindly gave me a hard modded original xbox (after seeing this thread). Other than telling me to 'google it', could one of yall possibly point me in the right direction to get the best emulating machine out of it? I've heard good things about 'coinops' but I've never had nor played an xbox (not my thing so much), is there a one-stop-this-is-the-definitive-xbox-emu-guide site I should visit?

Thanks in advance!
