s7800b or s7300b
« on: October 25, 2013, 09:36:12 am »
Hi All,

I have the JXD s5110 and I am now looking to either buy the s7300b or the s7800b.  Price is obviously a factor but what I really need is a device that will play mame4droid reloaded titles well and n64 titles with the additional analogue stick.  I bought the s5110 and i'm overall happy with how it runs mame4all with the 0.37b5 romset but really am looking to have the more extensive 0.139 romset working well which I find to be unplayable on the s5110.  Also the lack of 2nd analogue stick on the s5110 makes games like Goldeneye on N64oid unplayable even although I find it runs it fairly well with only a little lag.

My question is, can anyone give a difinitive answer if the dual core on the s7300b enough to run Mame4droid games smoothly?  I'm not too fussed about this device not being truly portable.  I know that the s7800b will no doubt be more than capable to play these title and more but I'm not really willing to pay the extra money for quad core if dual core is up to the job (also the waiting time for a release of the s7800b is a worry).

Sorry for the huge post, I have tried scouring the internet but haven't seen these specific questions answered.

Thanks.  ;D

Not sure how much help I can be since I've got a 7800 on order and it will be my first android, tablet, jxd,

Basically I was looking at the 73 or the 78, I would have gone with the 73 but could not find a good price on the 7300

Used ones went for 100 new ones run 120-130.. I decided if I was going to spend 100 on a used one, I might as well get a new one for 20-30 more.. and if im going to spend 130 I might as well spend another 40 for the 78 with faster cpu, true separate analog, and flush mounted IPS screen.

I do not know how well the 7300 or 7800 handles mame, the 7800 surely will do better but mame isn't built for speed even on desktops.

If you wait maybe the 7300's will drop in price, the 73 having time on it's side has had custom firmwares for it.. the 7800 is the "new thing" and may still have some bugs.. although it looks like stock is coming in now and those of us with pre orders are expecting them to ship soon.. we hope.

Oh one more thing about mame.. Unless someone has worked out mutli threadeding mame is terrible at it, you'll see a small improvement with 2 cores but get NO benefit from 4.

The way I understand it the mame team has not yet mastered how to split the workload while keeping things in sync.. so the faster the CPU the better, cores be damned.
The Biggest improvement from multi core on mame is that mame can have 1 or 2 all to it self instead of sharing it with the OS or other apps.

This is my exp coming from x86/64 I know android handles things a bit differently but I doubt mame will see any benefit from having 4 instead of 2 cores the biggest benefit is going to be with the speed increase 1->1.6ghz

Thanks for the reply Joe, silly of me not to even think about the processor speed in all of this.  To be honest, I'm more than likely going to wait for the 7800 to be rolled out, what with the Christmas period looming I just hope it all starts to happen soon!

If anyone has any experience of using Mame4droid Reloaded on the 7300 though, I would be grateful for any info.

Thanks again.

I have a G19 Yimlips  and Mame runs perfect, much better than N64 and PS1, despite only having a single core at 1.2ghz

I think your console is like mine, you should be able to run but try another emulator

MAME was okay even on my first Android phone (single core 1GHz). We're talking about mostly 20-30 year old games here (admittedly, my MAME collection doesn't include any CHD games). Even the Wii handles MAME handily for the most part and that's single core, 0.7GHz.

N64 isn't quite 100% on my Rockchip RK3066-based TV stick, which has nearly identical Antutu scores to the 7300. I think you'll want to splash out the extra 50 bucks for the 7800 if N64 gaming is important to you.
