JXD S7800B custom firmwares/ ROMs?
« on: February 03, 2014, 11:31:48 am »
What are the best firmware for JXD S7800B?
I saw supercharged 2.1 and it seems great BUT I do not want to have overclocked console.
Maybe there is an option to have this firmware without overclocking?
Stock would be OK but it have some issues with play store compatibility.

Is there any other good firmware/ ROM for model S7800B? couldn't find anything at all.

That would be good, could someone confirm that?
I also read that overclocking could soft brick your JXD is that true?

If anyone knows custom firmwares other than supercharged please post them here :)
I'm afraid of overclocking

I can't seem to upgrade mine.  The rkbatchtool doesn't work with wins 8.1 :(

I assure you the RK batch tool does work on all Rockchip devices.

WebCaw's (yes, I'm referencing myself as a third party) ROM is stock CPU and stock GPU (no real overclock).
http://boards.dingoonity.org/jxd-devices/s7800b-1-6ghz-(tweaked)-minimal-firmware-wfixes-(by-jxd)/
- Clean install, no bloatware or stock applications other than those needed to start the device.

Tan's ROM is a stock CPU (sort-of, depends on the optional kernel you choose) and an overclocked GPU.
http://boards.dingoonity.org/jxd-devices/s7800b-supercharged-v2-0-oc-reparted-ext2int-cwm-mrktfix/
- Stock Applications (most of anyway).

@Bloodsack My guess is you have not installed the drivers for the RC Tool.

@belmont1990 Given your new to the S7800B I would suggest you go with Tan's ROM as you'll want / need the bloatware to get you started.

Drem I was reading some posts from your link, it seems people have some issues with S7800B, especially with chargers/ batteries.

I'm wondering if archos 2 maybe better that this?

Anyway could someone tell me if I would install supercharged firmware on JXD S7800B could I then install on it stock speed CPU/GPU kernel?

WebClaw, oh that's some good news, soo to put it simply - I must do a base ROM installation of the Supercharged 2.0 THEN do a update to 2.2.1 and THEN install kernel "Kernel_StockSpeeds.img" to have a JXD with custom ROM and base, NOT overclocked speeds? :)

Or maybe I could just install stock speeds kernel after supercharged base rom 2.0 installation?

Yes to both of your questions. Base will come with an overclocked ROM. Replacing the kernel will set the unit back to stock speeds (although it's as clean as your boot.img file will reference higher clock speeds than the kernel can provide).

You know, JXD release of 1.1.4 is most likely all you need to get started. Personally, I don't think you need to change your ROM. Get to know your device first so you can appreciate the changes.

Yes to both of your questions.

@WebClaw, did I read that you're working on a new version of your ROM with enhanced play store support and storage re-partitioned (ala Tans f/w)?

Use Google ;-)
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/flashing-arnova-g2-rockchip-2918-rockchip-flashing-tool/

Thanks, but it doesn't say anything for wins 8.1?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure Windows 8 has Device Manager (http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/device-manager-windows-8.htm) - Windows 8 drivers are included in the download I provided you (Rockchip Batch Tool v1.7\Drivers\x64\win8).

Yeah, the repartitioned /userdata was included in 1.02 (already out). I'm not going to reinvent the wheel though, I'm game to include Tan's Samsung fix if there is enough demand.

I was using USB 3.0 and you say not to use it.  ok I'll try this later.  Thanks for helping, I'm still trying to get my head around this whole thing still. :o

Depends on what you want.
Minimalist changes? go with Webclaws.
If you want something more inclusive check out Tan's
There is also this one Skelton told me about but I have'nt tried it http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?9914-JXD-Game-Pad-3-S7800B-RileyROM-1-1

If you're not sure what you want I'd nudge you towards webclaws.

Not sure if it's better than S7800b but it's definitely more expensive. And it still has 57 Hz.
