One thing I forgot to mention in my review of Skelrom V1 is that it doesn't drop Wi-Fi all the time.  While it does still occasionally loose wifi connections when put to sleep and launched again, it is a simply matter of hitting the settings menu and it restarts wifi.  The original firmwares, 600 and 800 mhz respectively, required a full on restart after putting to sleep to get wifi working again.

I'm fairly new here but I'll try and ask for help...

So, My JXD S601 has always been acting strange with the battery... (I received it 5 days ago).
The indicator never went over 54% even when charging for the whole day. It jumped to 75% then down to 54%.
I installed SNESFAN'S Rom.
Yesterday, I installed another battery indicator, to see if the problem was ''App-wise''.
Suddenly, the whole thing fell apart... The battery went down by 1% battery life every 3 seconds, down to 20%, when the whole device turned off, the battery completly drained.
The SD card didn't work anymore either.

If it can give anyone a clue, the battery doesn't hold alot of charge anymore. Even when plugged for long periods, once unplugged it goes down in a heartbeat...

What is happening... ? Bad battery ? What can I do... I was really looking forward to playing back some old GBA games, am I stuck with a 90$ brick... ?

 Thanks for any help !

Try a different charger and/or usb cable.

Akira, try as moofree mentioned and get a different charging cable/usb cable and see if that fixes it.  If not, get in touch with the store you purchased your unit from and explain to them the situation.  If they are reputable, they will give you the details to get a replacement (you will probably be stuck with shipping back to them though so be prepared for a bit of sticker shock there).

@Akira- that sounds like a defective battery. I've had defective ones in the past and they acted very similar to what you describe. Contact your seller and ask for a replacement. If your device is working while plugged in that means the cable should be supplying the right amount of voltage to charge.

The battery stats do sometimes jump around after a fresh flash, but they should should become more fluid/stable over charge cycles. The battery % in android is usually just an estimate based off previous charge/discharge rates and how much of amp/volts your battery is putting out. As your battery wears out it rounds off these numbers so you should see 100% charged and a steady decline based off usage. If these numbers were static you would see your battery go from 100% straight down to like 85% in a matter of seconds after removing from the charger.

Thank you all for your replies. Using a different cable has provided surprising results... I guess I couldn't help myself to believe the factory cable was THAT bad. For now, everything seems to be going alot better than before. I'll keep you guys in touch, hoping not to have to :P

Thank you all again !

Personally, I like the S601 myself but here are some pages with some info for you to check out.  I am leaning heavily towards the S5110 though.

http://gamingonbatteries.com/jxd-s601-android-gaming-hand-held-2/  (about $80)

http://gamingonbatteries.com/jxd-s5110-android-4-0-coming-soon/   (about $100)

http://gamingonbatteries.com/yinlips-ydpg18a-android2-3-capacitive-5-points-touch-4gb-released/ (about $150)

http://gamingonbatteries.com/jxd-releases-new-android-hand-held/  (about $89)

If you have enough to get the Yinlips, I would suggest getting the S5110 (very similar hardware for $50 less) and pay for upgraded shipping (who wants to wait up to a month to get their unit?).

S601 and Yinlips G18 are the typical Product of PSP

Well
Yinlips G18A   is  Capacitive Touchscreen, This make it different from G18

If I were you . I would choose a G18a .

I've been reading over these threads and looking at links for an hour. I don't feel like being one of those morons who starts a new thread, so since you've been talking about these devices in such a long thread here...

...Here are my needs:

I am willing to spend up to/around $100, a bit more if it is worth it. No more then 120-130-ish.

Minimum Requirements: Must be useful for GEN/SNES emulation. Must be useable as an MP3 player. I have a two-hour commute to/from work, and a loooooooooot of time to listen to audiobooks. I also don't want to ever have to open the damn thing up. I don't mind installing programs/etc, but I'm not fiddling with the insides. Period.

Ideal:

PSX emulator (yeah, right!), No Touchscreen (Touchscreen seems to universally suck and break easily, as far as I can tell). Decent battery life considering my commute (so a screen that shuts down when I'm not touching things would probably really help there!). I may be willing to consider a touchscreen if it is useful and doesn't suck like a great many do.

Nice but not on the list of requirements:

Play movies.

Reccomendations?

YDPG16 is your closest match. You can read my review if you like ---> http://obscurehandhelds.wordpress.com/2012/05/10/yinlips-ydpg16-review/ It meets all of your requirements except it has a (good) touchscreen. PS1 and N64 emulation are supported well.

If you really didn't want a touchscreen, you're back to older handhelds like the dingoo. The dingoo is great, and ticks all of your boxes except it can't really do PS1 and it's nowhere near as powerful as the previous machine I mentioned for almost the same cost. It's reaching the end of its life now, but has a fairly mature library of emulators courtesy of OpenDingux and the dingoonity community. Movies on a 2.8" screen are not ideal, but it can play SD XviD.
