Electonixmart has a seriously bad reputation. They are known for:
- Listing items that are not in stock/available yet still showing them as 'In Stock' and taking money for orders - then not sending items out for months if at all.
- Sending out damaged goods and refusing to refund/exchange.
They also screwed a few people from these forums around by selling prototype A380 units. Units that were not complete nor fit for sale and units that Dingoo Tech specifically told retailers not to sell to the general public. They were merely evaluation units for retailers to decide whether they wanted to stock and sell the item, once completed.
great :D
though i doubt ill be patient enough to wait for your review before ordering one myself :p
be sure to follow this thread:

I'm that ANDROID user from pandora forums, I'll be sure to update this board with roms and stuff I come up with... this site seems to be a little more friendly to that kind of stuff. I'm almost certain if I link to a rom I made myself from one of these clone devices, if it includes anything even questionable legality (android market hack) they will amost certainly modify my post and remove the link, they did it before so I'm not even going to bother... I'll more than likely link to a thread over here on that thread.
If you all want to hold off on ordering I'm probally going to be one of the first ones to get it, (ordered on the 11th) I'll be sure to give my no nonsense opinion on it.
But I'm certian it's just a cheap or hobby toy I'm sure. I still reccomend the Xperia Play above all if what you are looking for is performance and build quality. If you want something to play with get one of these... it's the cheapest android gaming devices around. I would just not expect this to be a serious option.
I had been laughing on the inside at both the unofficial usage of a popular song and the sped-up footage in the video...
Seriously, there had already been tons of JXD systems, so I am fretting the inevitable new upgrade...
I like the S601 but unfortunately it has no HDMI output. So I decided to wait for the next model with HDMI output which will probably appear later this year. My guess, in 6-7 months. Or mayby i'll buy a Yinlips.
Yep I told them when I ordered it can you send me the black version O`well lol

Good for you, i missed on on brand new ones for £160 on Ebay....
I can get one from my catalogue for £240 spread that over 12 weeks intrest free so i am considering doing that, that would ease the pain of my dead A320..... RIP he is ready to be shipped of to someone i sold to on Ebay maybe they would know how to fix him :'(
So maybe getting a Xperia Play could be just whats needed to cheer me up ;D
How have you found it, i have spoken to SNESFAN and Ayla who cant recomend it more than enough both say the device is ACE!
I really like that the quality is good and it works well and is easy to set up, no messing around. It makes my yinlips seem like a piece of junk to be honest.

well, that's the corollary to the "you get what you paid for" statement
the only thing that i'm not liking at all about the xperia is the dpad... or rather, the LACK of a real dpad -- that's it, "real" as in a single piece of plastic being the intermediary between my fingers and the four electronic contacts, no matter if segmented a la playstation or continuous nintendo style, as opposed to these four independent clicky buttons that the xperia equips with. i'm not seeing myself pulling "power geysers" with this reliably
they already have it on isharegifts, for $88.99! (just take the 10 bucks as shipping :P)I ALWAYS knew that they could do a truly good handheld console for the price that they've been selling us the $10 crapware for...
if my girlfriend allows me ill bite the bullet and order one!
I cant make that decision for you, keep in mind I did order a s601
Hi SNESFAN,I bought it from isharegifts as they were the first reseller to have it. They are on holiday as with the vast majority of Chinese people and companies, they should be back early February.
just a quick question upon your order of the s601: where did you buy it from? I saw on isharegift.com that they are celebrating chinese newyear now and that orders will only be shipped on the 1st of february. Can you confirm this if you ordered it through them? How long did they say shipment will take? I know it's always a long time with those chinese guys (cfr. dealextreme, which will have the s601 too in february)
I am interfacing with them but they are on holiday until February once they come back ill begin talks again. They have already shown interest. Their role in this at their level is Pcb, plastics mold and rebrander of 3rd party designs and consoles and have a decent amount of English speaking staff, I think this is good channel to express ideas.
I have some projects going on right now that I think the community is going to really like a lot, more to follow about that in near future ;)
If you want to post your ideas here (for now) I can incorperate the ideas into what im sending to the people at jxd.
tbh, i wonder why everybody seems to want android market working.
i mean you can download the apk files from other sources and install them via microsd
well how is the n64 and ps1 emulation? :p
as for now it offers the best compatibility at a fair price
i don't see why everybody wants android at all. opendingux/gmenu2x is a much better solution for open source handheld gaming imo.

For many people, android is appealing because there is already a lot of development and apps for it. Which means that they won't have to wait and hope for a community to build around their specific console.
Well ... there are 400.000+ apps, and many, many tens of thousands of developers for android.
Compare that to the MIPS variant used by A320 dingux.

the device can be rooted with http://unlockroot.com/unlockroot.php and the market installed.
The screen is more responsive than the G18 and combos do work.
The recovery mode is available pressing all buttons and turning on the device.
Got it on Isharegifts.
since the jxd-s601 and the yinlips g18 are so similar 'spec-wise'...any chance that bitrider's custom rom for the g18 would work on the jxd-s601?
i googled for qbertaddicts guide to installing android market on the g18. the necessary apk's were on megaupload...which is no more :(
i guess i could google for the google framework and android market apk's but i'm not sure if i need a particular version or something.
any help would be appreciated.

Controls won't be really good cause of the lack of multitouch screen.
I think it is possible to play with a pad like on the G18.
So far, this little thing has a lot of ups and downs. The battery is great (I've clocked 6 hours solid play, 20 in standby) and the touch screen is way more responsive than most resistive types. However, it is single touch, and the emulators are a mess. They're system apps, and you need titanium backup or similar root tools to remove them prior to upgrade (you cannot upgrade them otherwise, and n64 is woefully out of date). Gamehub would be a great launcher...if you could edit it in any way. I don't care about Angry Birds, I'd love to replace it with anything else. Still, emulation is pretty smooth (chainfire naturally helps) and this is a frigging bargain for the price. Gonna try the market install trick next. Amazon market is pretty stale...
Please try shadowgun with it even if it means using chainfire 3D driver ;)
For those observant minds, the home key on this device is non-existant; you can hold down the power button and then you can either power off or go home (which is rather annoying). Also, the menu and back keys are quite noisy. As a workaround, I highly recommend Button Savior. It's free in the market and makes the most unobtrusive soft keys ever.
Finally, the previously posted market trick works perfectly. Go get some market!
I got everything dumped... however I'm working on my image so what I've dumped is by no means stock, all the propritary and *cough* stolen *cough* software is ripped out. If you want it I can upload it, but I don't want to release to public until I'm done with at least v1 of my rom. If you are in desperate need now for what I have so far PM me.
my next project (besides a decent recovery image) is seeing if I can overclock from the default underclock of 600mhz (blew my mind when I saw that)
Well the yinlips G18 custom rom is set to 850Mhz wonder if you could the same with the S601....
here's what I've done on so far, think it's stable enough for public release, going to work on flashing process now.
(V.01)
-VM Heap set to 48MB (performance gain)
-Default language= English (from chineese)
-Android Market (google sanctioned market)
-SlideME Market (alternative to the above)
-boot animation removed (~35sec boot after first)
-removed most bloatware and preinstalled apps
-replaced default launcher w/ ADWlaucher (FOSS)
-removed pirated apps (factory reset/wipe internal sd to fully remove)
-SuperUser (root access)
-enabled wifi sleep policy (improve battery life)
-set wifi scan interval to 180sec (bimprove battery life)
-busybox installed /system/bin/busybox (http://busybox.net/about.html)
can someone translate this?Ok I read through the forum. Bitrider has released his custom rom based on the newest Yinlips firmware 1075. The biggest improvement is that it adds USB OTG. People are reporting success with mice, keyboards, USB hubs and Flash drives. So far no Usb gamepads are recognized. Some discussion about various apps that may allow gamepads to work. He also has released a tool for dumping the system image if anyone gets a unit with higher firware and asks that people send it to him. It also confirms that Yinlips have already started shipping their newer models. People that were saying they got units with Android 2.3 are getting the newer model not the original. The new models don't go into recovery mode in the same way. Bit riders rom will not be compatible with the newer model.

Your order will be send out in these two days. We suggest you wait patiently. You will receive your order soon. Thanks. By the way, the shipping fee for DHL is wrong. Thus, we wonder if we can change your shipping way to " Hongkong register air mail"? Or we suggest you add $29 to our Paypal account: [email protected] so that we can send out your order.

I ordered it yesterday on isharegifts, but now i get the message the handling fee listed for DHL is wrong and they'll change it to registered mail. Do I have to let them know something that it's ok for me, since it's the first time i order through this site and I don't know how they work. Also, how long does it usually take for shipment though isharegifts?
i've never ordered anything from isharegifts before. i'm trying not to worry but i just can't help it. i got an email on the 25th saying they would ship it out the next day. however, in the same email, it says 'Order Status: Delivered'
is that just some bad engrish thing? is that normal for them? i have this fear that their system thinks my jxd has already been delivered and, so, they won't ship it...
i emailed back today and asked for a tracking#. they sent me one...and it looks like hong kong tracking#s i used to get when ordering things from dealxtreme.com...but i can't find a page to use to check the tracking#. dealxtreme used to include a link. isharegifts did not.
edit: btw, i just checked and dealextreme.com now has the jxd s601 for $85 with FREE SHIPPING.
I hate how they don't have them in Egnlish so you can at least see what you are downloading.
So ruffnutts whats the verdict after having it for a while? I got mine coming soon and can you reccommend how to root this sucker, like you I have never done it before and a little nervous on how to go about it.
thanks

This is the newest version of the emulator, running in HLE mode, but I left it @ default settings so with tweaking it could run faster I guess, remeber this video is only running '30fps - it feels ok to play...
Maybe my next video I will record @ 720p 60fps ;D

Oh, in that case the emulation is quite ok. I've also heard that in hle mode the emulator runs slower, at least in my cellphone runs slower.
This update fixed my problem.
New vids coming ;D

You don't need the whole sdk, only the parts for adb are needed for this and is what's included in the unlocker app, it installs adb drivers and all dependancies too which would tripple the complexity of my tiny guide

Mario Kart 64 looks insanely hard to play without a real analog stick :-(Actually it is kind of hard to shoot and play at the same time xD...
Also, you can turn those touchscreen controls off Nenoboy, and make the video full screen too.
someone know how to use TV out?
I not have cable for try...
Just wait, I'm just getting started, great things to come once I understand this system better
I'm working on a complete rebuild from aosp, cwm recovery, overclock, and remap hardware keys to xperia play outputs, but these take time
su
cp /sdcard/qwerty.kl /system/usr/keylayout/
Ok, getting "failed to copy 'build.prop' to 'data/tmp/': Is a directory
Following the commands exactly, after trying to push *.apk I get a huge stream of text, is that normal?
I take it this means I can't use my legit emulators on the s601 until the Market is fixed?
here, I'm keeping the guide on my site, made the process slightly easier as well and included the new keymap

Hi, a nice tuto by Qbertaddict and BAFelton to install and setup Chainfire 3D on the JXD s601.

I'm having a problem with the market. When I go to "My Apps" there is only one there, no sign of FPSE or any of the others I've paid for.PM
I only really need to get FPSE as well as that's the emulator I'm lacking at the moment.
Any ideas?

You might want to clear out your market settings and start over.
Are you seeing protected apps at all? Search specifically for zenonia in the market. If it's not there, you're not seeing protected apps, if you do see it, but not your purchases... I'd lean towards incorrect/different credentials being used.
menu>settings>applications>manage applications>all>market>force stop & clear data
Well when I do a search for onlive I dont see that in the market....
i dont know a lot about android emulators, but wouldnt it be possible to use the touch pad for analog?
hopefully OC can get figured out soon :) that might sort out the n64 emulationa kernel rebuild is in order for oc to work

I use One Touch Optimize on my phone which does free up some memory, makes PSOne emulation a bit better on it too. Gonna try it on the s601
Just had a quick blast before and after One Touch Optimize on Ridge Racer 64 and Shadows of the Empire, RR64 seemed quite a bit smoother (still not perfect but no pauses which I got yesterday) but hardly any difference on SotE which I have to disable frameskip. If it didn't flicker when using frameskip it would be perfectly playable.
Quite surprised it made a difference (albiet in a completely unscientific spot test) as there's not much running in the background (just settings, framework and keyboard mostly). My s601 hasn't been rebooted since yesterday afternoon either.
men, i've deleted all the content of my jxd s601 when i updated my firmware... if anyone has the original apk's folder , could please upload it for me?

Had some small issues today, as the down arrow on the control pad kept sticking. Think it might just be the angle I pressed it, but I still might do some minor surgery and see what I can do to make it more streamlined.
Sidenote: I personally don't like using adb commands. Ergo, when it comes to root activities (i.e. removing system apps) I really prefer tools like root explorer or titanium backup. Explorer costs money but titanium is free (though the pro upgrade has some great perks). This might be the first Android device for some, so I figured a little heads up might be helpful!
Another great option for snes is SNEs9x, is free and works quite well.
http://www.explusalpha.com/home/snes9x-ex/downloads
For mame you can use mame4droid or tigerarcade 3.0.3
..apart from a keymapping issue - the circle button is mapped as the back key so every time you press it the emulator tries to exit..
For those who have already got the jxd. Can native android games (for example racing games) be controlled with buttons?, or must be played using the resistive screen?
Ok i followed the guide in this forum.
1. Official update
2.Root
3.Remove built in Apps.
Everything looks and runs great, with 1 exception. N64oid. When i select a rom the screen goes blank then goes back to rom selection. I'm using the newest build from Slideme. I'm using the same roms that I have on Yinlips and they work there. I just don't Know why it won't work :'(

Hey, quick question, wondering if anyone can duplicate this oddity.Icons for just button savior are too big?
I've been using a program called Button Savior to act as my soft buttons, since the tangible buttons for back and menu are godawful loud. It was working great for quite a while, but now it's completely messed up. The icons are way too big (comically so) and I often can't hit them correctly.
SNESFAN, I ran into this issue after I used the updated build.prop you offered for download. I can't say for certain that's the error, but I was wondering if anyone else could grab this app (it's free in the market, don't get the pro key) and tell me if they have the same issue? Thanks!

I've got mine today and i'm a bit dissapointed. Mame and neogeo runs with a lot of frame skip, so they are not playable. SNES, MD and Pc Engine are great, but i bought especially for CPS1 and CPS2 and neogeo games. All I can suggest is to make sure your using the newest version, go into settings and look for anything that offers a performance boost. Like switching to open gl rendering. I'm able to play NeoGeo games with 0 frame skip setting and the action never drops
Any advice or the console is just not powerful enough? I'm root and i've made all modifications by SNESFAN
Otherwise i've seen in Quadrant that processor is 600 mhz :'(, so i'm afraid is underclocked. This console needs some custom rom to gain speed, because at stock levels is not powerful enough i think.

Sorry to be a pain, but I've rooted, cleared all the bloat off (thanks Snesfan), but now none of my buttons seem to work, I have to use the touch screen to navigate ! Any ideas ?

I don't mean to be a prat, but did you accidentally toggle on the button hold switch? That happened to me twice, and I freaked out for five minutes thinking I bricked the thing. I'm sure it's a bigger issue than that, but I just want to make sure.
Another new user here. For the life of me, I cannot get UnlockRoot to recognize my S601; it keeps saying "Not find online device, please enable USB debugging!"--which, of course, I have. When I connect to my PC (Win7), the S601 even says "USB debugging connected".Did you install the driver? When you scroll to unlock root from windows program menu there is the option there.
Up till this point, I have been following zepxxx's exemplary guide. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

For neogeo i am using mame4droid 1.52 and tigeraracde 3.05, the last versions.

Another quick question - what PC Engine emulator are you guys using?
I want one to play Rondo of Blood on so must have CD support.

The audio tracks are .mp3 so I assume I need to convert them to get them music but I thought the game would work without like it does on Dingoo.
Any chance anyone cab upload all the nand folders and stock apk. As mine have gone missing. Not sure how I did this as all main system app logos are on screen but when I click on them it says package not found. Also native Rom folders have gone missing. Worked well or weekend but went strange after charging.
I've been looking at this device and I am very interested in it. Does the device come with a tv-out cable, or is there somewhere that I can purchase it? Thanks. ;D I think this site should be called S601oonity!

Does anyone have problems with Nesoid and Gensoid?
I can't load any games, it just go back to roms selection page.
though the android versions running on them dont support analog sticks properly :p
@ SNESFAN - I just installed setcpu and it thinks its only 300Mhz lol and its a sony ericsson.. would this be correct???
well it lets me overclock it from 300 to 528 lol ....this can't be right man
Mupen? Me. It was pretty glitchy and slow experience. But it still in it's early stage of development... Maybe in year or two it will be usable.
Aye the Quake3 port (I used kwaak3 I think) always ran better than the ports for the other 2, I had it running pretty well on my ancient G1 - buttons to move and trackball to aim!
Ther versions of the other 2 were pretty ropey last time I looked, shame as I prefer them to Quake3.
quake3droid is the new name for kwaak3...

Well there's a version on the market 1.7 looks promising
Anyone tried some Xperia optimized controls games in th jxd? I have the qwerty.kl "similar" layout to to the Xperia play, but in games the circle button doesn't do anything, when apparently has a function, like in Samurai II, so I can not control the game properly.

I quote myself, if anyone how to solve this problem....
Looks like the CS port has optimized Play controls.
I seem to remember the Unreal Engine making an appearance too....

I've read it but I'm at work, don't have the ability to check it right now, everything minus the back as home appears to be working from what I checked, I'll double check that game and get back with you
Can you please post more pictures of "internals" of your s601? Like battery and chip set...
A quick question for anyone who can help, on the stock machine there is an arcade emulator which I'm pretty sure is a Neo Geo emulator. My problem is this, I cannot install this apk (Arcade_Softwin.apk), I just keep getting "cannot install", I have Mame4Droid installed which maybe interferring, but I doubt it as it cannot play Neo Geo games. Does anyone know how to get around this problem ? I know there is a Neo Geo emulator on the market, "Neo Pop" I think, which i may just have to buy and install !!!!Mame4droid Plays NeoGeo games. You just need the neogeo bios in the Roms folder. I believe Neo.Emu is also a good

You should probably see what isharegifts says first (they'll probably require you to pay shipping back to china >:( )
ok I found the problem with the back>home thing
bought samuri 2 and I see circle does nothing, i'm installing it on my xperia play and I'll do some comparisons...
it looks like on the xperia there's an alternate config when you press the button 305 (circle) and it's reporting both BUTTON_B and BACK at the same time somehow, I'm going to try some stuff out and see how it works
everything else looks good unless you guys notice any other wonky keys
the only other one would be DPAD_CENTER which would have an alternate BUTTON_B call
EDIT: after further inspection of that game, the buttons perform the same functions as they do on my xperia play... circle does nothing on the xplay either.... what is circle supposed to do?
also attached are updated and cleaned up qwerty.kl and adc_keypad.kl (adc_keypad.kl was the problem with the home/back thing)
back is truely home this time
if you want a more stock keypad setup modify qwerty.kl and comment (# at the beggining of line) out these lines and restart, but note we moved BACK to circle so if you revert it to just being BUTTON_A, back will still be home... so BACK function will effectively no longer exist unless you change adc_keybad.kl as well (change key 158 from HOME to BACK)
#key 304 BACK ALT WAKE_DROPPED
#key 305 DPAD_CENTER ALT WAKE_DROPPED
@sparkyidr- sounds like hardware failure... sorry bout your luck bud =(
SNESFAn, i have tested the v2 of the layout, the back/home problem is solved but the problem with native android games still remains (the button circle does nothing, so it doesn't do anything. For instance, if you have a chance test the game Fight Game Hero (i think there is a demo in market). This game is supposed to be controlled with the xperia keys. When you enter the game enter options to see the controls. You will see that you cannot go back to the main screen because the Circle button don't do anything.

cool that is something specific I can work on, any more like this but with other games/buttons would be helpful

Thanks for working on that. In Samurai II, When you enter the game, click on Help, then in page 4 of 4 you can see the controls with an xperiaplay picture, the you can see that in circle it is assigned the option Heavy Attack, but in game circle doesn't work, but roll and light attack, triangle and cross buttons work properly. So it seems that Circle Button is the only one giving problems.
p.d: Sorry about my english, i am spanish.

Cheers for the internals. Might well come in handy!
Yeah. I emailed them last night... They got back to me pretty quick, but mainly to ask the obvious questions like...was I sure I had the volume up!
Anwyays, I replied back saying I was sure it was a hardware fault and had factory restored etc etc, but have heard nothing back from them as of yet. But fingers crossed, hopefully they will replace it.
just ordered one of these.. but I guess my skills as a C programmer won't be particularly useful as its all android ;)have you looked at the NDK?
what kernel are you trying to compile SNESFAN? :)
i guess i wont get it for a while though, dealextreme status: waiting for supplier :Pthey're probably in high demand everywhere... this thing is attracting a lot of interest. I personally ordered from isharegifts, but if I had the choice at the time between dx and them I would have gone with dx. Your choice on that one. I'd say wait it out though.
cancel and order somewhere else?
i guess i'll see if i can compile the kernels in the meantime

awesome, I take it you have experience compiling kernels? I'm a android rom cooker by nature, and I know a lot about the android platform, but I know little about kernel hacking... It's been a great learning experience for me so far, it sure is a challenge though.
I've compiled kernels, but I also know little about kernel hacking unfortunately. I guess I'll learn :) I just have a lot of C/C++ experience.
I have tested the new Neo.emu emulator form the market. it works awesome in terms of speed. In my opinion, this is best emulator to play NeoGeo games on the JXD s601. There's some issues with some games, but it is the first version of the emulator and the performance is awesome.

I've tried the Neo.emu emulator, and it just won't work for me, it keeps saying I have missing files for the games, but I know this is not true because they work fine in Mame4Droid. I just assumed the emulator wouldn't work on the S601 as its documented as being for android 2.0 - 2.2, and we are running 2.3, but that is obviously wrong if it works for you.
Any hints to getting it to work would be most helpful !

Hi, the problem is that the roms for mame4droid are not valid for neo.emu. Neo.Emu uses the mame romset 0.144, whereas mame4droid uses the 0.37, so you need the roms for 0.144 romset.

Thanks for that, I saw Qbertaddict's review of the emulator and he confirms what you said. Just have to find the right romset :o
If you are using the mame .144 romset you dont have to rename the file in the neogeo.zip file. If you are using an old romset some games will work but not all. Romsets of certain games are changing all the time. For best compatibility get the .144 romsets or use clearmame to create a set for you.

Finally got this to work after much head scratching, it may be obvious to most out there, but my problem wasn't with my roms, you have to make sure that you have the uni bios file named exactly - uni-bios_2_3.rom inside your neogeo.zip file.
Hope this helps anyone else struggling ;)

I think I tracked down the exact problem with the mapping issue. However, I can't fix it without compiling something, the problem is in a specific binary.
EDIT: most people don't care for technical crap, so I modified my post and removed most of it, but if you care to read my documentation of the problem it's right here.

I found a tool that can be used to decompile the keypad-zeus.kcm.bin from the xperia play and insert and recompile the entries into qwerty.kcm.bin for the S601 that's causing the issue. It's written in python if anyone is curious.

i Just bricked my JXD s601 :/
I download the firmware from jxd.hk, copy the files to the SD root and switch on the handheld pressing power and menu.
After ½ hour the message "Upgrade update.zip, waiting" doesn't change. I power off and now i just have a plastic brick D:
alternatively, is there any kind of app or hack that would give me something like a mouse pointer onscreen that i could control with the d-pad? the whole point of getting voice input to work for me was to avoid having to 'type' on the resistive touchscreen. i wonder if my touch screen is worse than everyone else's because it's just insane trying to type anything on it. heck, it usually takes 3 tries for me to just swipe/unlock the screen.
oh thats good... it's not bricked... it might be possible to brick the bootloader but I'm under the belief this thing is unbrickable as long as the battery holds out
1) format your sdcard in your computer
2) redownload all the files from jxd
3) unrar the contents to the sdcard
4) hod R trigger while power on and reflash bootloader (less than 1 min)
5) hold menu while power on and will wipe and flash everything else
the site doesn't offer a md5 hash check so it's not really posible to run that on your download but I'm guessing corruped download.. your system is fine as long as you see something on your screen... black screen with no activity is a brick... anything activity is good
EDIT; one scarry possiblity is that your nand is defective if it passed the sig check and didn't fail out and still tried to flash, but the "disk" it is writing to is damaged or defective it coud do what you are describing... but I'd still lean on just a corrupted download
black screen with no activity is a brick...
Try holding Volume+ instead of R in snesfan's steps above. That's how you invoke the uboot flash process.
I'm split between the two consoles: The Jxd S601 and the Ydpg18. Which one is better? Does someone here have both consoles and can do a full comparison with the two? I'm waiting to see SNESFAN's custom rom... is it almost done SNESFAN? Please answer my questions. Thanks Everyone on this thread! :DI have both. Don't have time right now to do a full comparison(I'm at work). Short answer. Go for the Jxd.
edit: found that if you alter your build.prop to resemble the the xperia play, GTA changes its button layout. I'll have to try snesfan's layout with it...
@hurley i found a video with some mame emulation on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=h_-NzIbXvpU#t=279s
I have an annoying problem with my jxd. When leaving it on standby for a long time (some hours) it becomes stuck and the screen won't awake when pressing the on button. The only solution is to push the reset button for some time. Could it be that this results from not factory resetting it after upgrading firmware (I didn't do because it wasn't mentionned in the description by jxd, also it rebooted automatically when the update was finished). If so, I guess I should redo the upgrade, if not what could be the matter?
how is the battery lif on standby? is it even worth leaving it in that state?stanby for me is ~5% per 12 hours with the power save wifi sleep policy in the build.prop (non-stock) also make sure you set that in wifi settings menu or just turn off wifi when not using it.
and some other questions:
how do the shoulder buttons feel like when pressed? are they like the letcool shoulders? or like the gba ones? im really curious since im willing to mod my jxd to my gusto button-wise as soon as i can afford one.
Could someone see if Minecraft works on the JXD S601? Mebe some screenshots and if theres any lag please report. Thanks! ;)Minecraft runs fine, but I haven't found any movement keys to bind the d-pad to. I don't notice any major slowdown.
You should probably see what isharegifts says first (they'll probably require you to pay shipping back to china >:( )
Can someone check is this thing has an otg? ::)Negative. >:(
4)that 3GB should be mounted at /mnt/flash/ it's a fake "internal sd" you also have a data partition (where all your installed apps and settings etc go) of about 500mb that sits on nand (it's all the same space really) all the android system partitions (boot, system, logo, recovery, cache) are all occupying the same 4GB. All the android system files expanded take up about ~500MB, plus ~500MB for data, ~3GB fake sd = 4GB
But still a real SD card is needed to savestates(N64oid) and other app things or there is a way to run emulators without a SD card?
@skelton- there are alternative ways of overclocking without source if you are a "mad skillz hacker" like adjusting what clock speed is being reported by injecting stuff into the memory... but I'm not one of those lol...At least we don't have a locked down bootloader like my Motorola phone.

Currently the only* way to overclock that is with kernel modules that were first released by one of those mad skillz hackers back in January.
Considering that some of the slatedroid folks have overclocked amlogic kernels by replacing 800000000 for XXX000000 in the uncompressed kernel image, I bet it would be comparatively easy to throw something similar together... if we had a mad skillz kernel hacker around here somewhere ;)
* edit: well, the only GOOD way.
Truth be known I'm getting fed up with this device.. it could be so much better, I know its only cheap lol,
I haven't used it very much.... well I've been playing me ps vita... anyway
Maybe we could contact bitrider who made the custom rom for the yinlips G18, I can see myself ending up selling it on
Just a thought
Just bought GameKeyboard from the market - need to figure out how to use it now lol 8)I've been able to remap the buttons to keys with this app, so I can say for sure it does work.

I don't think we can simulate touchscreen presses with this yet..
so ill go for the jxd huh :P
Just realised my o button registers as back and the x registers as a d-pad centre - is this because after SNESFAN's Tutorial it thinks its an xperia play?

Yes, that's the reason.
Not a lot of time to explain, but mine craft is one of the "samurai vengeance 2" games with the back/circle problem.
No answer has been found on how to fix it, but there is more than just us here looking into it
I'm having problems with chainfire. Applications installs ok, I install the cfw3d driver, amd the machine reboots. But after rebooting the Application is gone, so I cannot modify anything of the applicaction. I've tried several versions and all of them give me the same mistake. Can anyone tell me which version goes ok in the jxd s601?The free 3.3 version on the market should work.
Thanks in advance.

1. This console is for my son and i would like it to be recognized as french.
I don't talk about the OS. But the multi language games and the android market are all set to english...
Is there a way to change that ? make the app believe it's a french OS even if it's not ?

you can change the system OS language, it should translate everything to english. Apps written in english only will still only be in english.
menu button->settings->language and keyboard(A keyboard key)->select language(first option)->francais
Guys, it is possible to use this keyboard-s remap on the Yinlips G18 ? Because it will be possible to play some Xperia games on it.
I wonder if the JXD company is gonna give us Android 4.0 through firmware update? :D But could someone take some pics of how the tv-out is or maybe a video? Thanks! :)
actually, JXD releasing an update is very encouraging. overclock can be added by hacking the kernel, I've done it but my JXD hasnt arrived yet to test it..
There is a new firmware apparently enables TV OUT. I haven't tested it yet.
http://www.jxd.cc/download.asp?id=263&selectclassid=019009
I've tested the new firmware and tv out works, but a little blurry screen. Apart from that, it brings android market and another languages (spanish for example). CPU Speed still at 600 mhz, so performance should be the same.
You can be root exactly like in previous firms.

is the tv out just video or audio as well?
With the new firm the speed is still at 600 mhz, they just added tv out and market. I think the onlu choice we have is modify the kernek on our own, but I don't have the knowledge to do that. We must extract the boot.img, edit the init.rc and repack everything again to flash it. I Couldn't extract the boot.img, so I don't know what else to do.

Its Audio & Video... I just used a dingoo TV-OUT cable and it works fine :)

I can extract and repack boot.img. But, I can't add resign apk to update.zip. In recovery mode install fail. I don't know why.
original code init.rc in boot.img - http://pastebin.com/1D3ssuiE
I add overclock code to 650hzCode: [Select]chmod 777 /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
write /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq 650000
Download boot.img modify add overclock code http://www.mediafire.com/?gcbn0bf4befqium
nice! I got a tool to flash boot.img file from within android, not recovery.
if you are also looking for that tool, it's called flash_image, i tested reflashing the stock boot.img and appeared to go through successfully.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Flash_image
I'll give it a go tonight and let you know if nobody beats me to it.
EDIT: reason unsigned update.zip files fails is 2 parts;
1) you must sign any .zip file to flash it in recovery it's a security feature in android 2.0+ you can sign with any public or private key if you chose, but it must be signed with the same key used in compiling the recovery.img
2) jxd built their recovery to only accept a private test key not the public test key (most custom roms use this key) we will have to rebuilt recovery from android source or custom recovery to allow signing with public test keys for it to accept .zip files signed with any other key than their private key.

I tried flash_image boot boot.img, it's freezing on the jxd android logo screen too. 5555
Who knows how to delete and add icons from home menu as shown below??? It remains even after uninstallation .I try everything, push and hold on icon but it not work....

Hi all, finally managed to get my s601. I've installed the latest firmware (tvout) however market acsess is complete pap, hardly anything listed have I done something wrong. Btw thanks guys for all the tuts etc very useful.
Problem solved cheers ruffnuts
Excellent, Netflix runs sweet happy days now to root and get the emus on

I recommend you to change the launcher for golauncher, adwlancher o launcher pro.
When I first got mine the hold lock was on at the bottom try switching it off dude ;)

but how now I have to move (NES EMU, MD EMU, N64 EMU GBA EMU, MAME EMU) on my launcher screen.
Surprise, Surprise!!! I wrote jxd an email complaining about the 600 mhz speed and they answered me.
They have asked to do a list of requests for new firmware. I asked to put system speed at least at 800 mhz (because they advertise it as 1 ghz).
The mail I wrote is [email protected]
If all users of the machine complain about system speed, we can make any progress.
At least they have answered my mail. that's something.
We need an application to simulate touch events from button presses, like this one (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.poke64738.usbjoy) which unfortunately requires honeycomb or above.
The sixaxis app can do the same, but only with input from a bluetooth ps3 controller.
I haven't found anything that fits our specific purpose yet.
Had a idea thats's goner sound silly but still.. a kind of touch to hardkey scenario!
Wouldn't it be good if the was an app the can capture touch evens of the screen so you can relay them to the hardware buttons, so when the hardware buttons are being pressed it thinks your touching that point of the
Screen... that way we could play any game like GTA, Shadowgun, Dungeon Hunter ect...
Does that sound silly or did I just word it wrong lol.... I think you get the idea

To clarify, by "old method", do you mean installing the google frameworks and market apks floating around using appinstaller? (as per qbertaddicts video.)that'd be the one

Ok guys, installed new firmware and rooted, what's the best way to remove launcher and apps so I can install new ones.
Tried to update with the batch installer including go launcher but after reboot I just get android anime on boot screen? Any ideas.
sorry forgot o say all apps like bejewelled fruit ninja sho but when licked says package not found and there's a couple of ones I wanted to keep? Any ideas

Hi There,
Would it be possible and I'm sure I talk for a lot of people with the S601 to put the clock speed to @ least 800Mhz or even 850Mhz
Like the Yinlips G18 its far to slow.... seen as its meant to be 1Ghz
Erveryone on dingoonity forums want this to happen just visit this thread
http://boards.dingoonity.org/other-game-systems/jxd-s601-new-android-console-from-jxd-with-shoulder-buttons!!!/585/

Anyway start emailing people... lets get this thing sped up!!
: JXD would like to open an editable kernal file but not all since that's our copyright.

SNESFAN, I was talking yesterday with bitrider, the creator of the custom rom of the Yinlips machine. He told me that even if we can't extract the boot.img we can do it with the uImage file, then we just have to rename to boot.img and flash it. He published some scripts to extract and repack the umage. I haven' t tested cos I need to install linux in my computer. But we could make a try....boot.img = uimage!? no wonder that unpack-bootimg script wasn't working.. I feel dumb
Quote: JXD would like to open an editable kernal file but not all since that's our copyright.
::)
Yeah, that's fun they talk about copyright, when they include cracked pais apps in the firmware.
I test Kyorakernel work to extract boot.img ;D
SNESFAN, I translate what bitrider published (though my english is not very good, i'll try.
Bitrider said:
We have three scripts for linux. Thay are bash scripts.
unpack-uImage.sh -> to unpack the uImage (remove kimage header and decpmpress lzma).
repack.sh -> It takes an Image-ext.new, compress it with lzma y repack it with mkimage.
repack-uImage.sh -> repack the initramfs in kernel and creates a new uImage.
The result of uImage.sh is a Kernel, with a initramfs anexed file system
The initramfs is not compressed (just the files with cpio), so we can edit some things always that the size of this file remains the same. A better strange this system but it works. As an alternative, we can extract the initramfs into a directory, modify it and packing again in kernell kernel. In that case the new initramfs cannot exceed the size of the previous one.
Intresting addresses of the uImage:
0x84970c : Establish the max speed that kernel applies to the cpu.
Tested values:
Hz in Hex en reverse order (how it is kept)
------------------------------- -------------- -----------------
1GHz -> 1000000000 : 3B9ACA00 (00CA9A3B)
900Mhz -> 900000000 : 35A4E900 (00E9A435)
880Mhz -> 880000000 : 3473BC00 (00BC7334)
850Mhz -> 850000000 : 32A9F880 (80F8A932)
800Mhz -> 800000000 : 2FAF0800 (0008AF2F)
I don't know if this can be applied to the jxd, because it is an m3 cpu, but I think maybe worth a try.
anyone successfully get google play (market) into s601?
can anyone post a step by step installation for market to work correctly?
ok guys so now i have new firmware, and rooted and apps removed however i cant dl n64oid from slideme it trys but fails and says its a system program and do i wish to replace i click yes and it fails.
How do i acsess the system files to remove the n64oid folders?
Cheers
Regarding my Mame4Droid poor performance....
In the "each game menu", reducing the audio sampling from "44Khz Stereo" to "22Khz Mono", makes most of the game run at 60/60Fps....
This s601 is really really good :-)
Xavier
Tiger mame isn't playing double dragon(Arcade, not neogeo but know that is mame version capability) for me and the frameskip with that emulator is very poor, however mame4droid and the native emulator are both playing double dragon(1,2,3 and neo doid is doing a great job with neogeo double dragon) and outrun above 50fps. Shinobi and shadow dancer are also running very well. Sometimes just a matter of playing with some of the settings a little. Also with the new (TV out) Firmware, the stock N64 Emulator has been updated slightly. Can't wait to see what happens next for this device.
The problem i had with the sound with head phones is usually sorted by locking the device(not the old button switch), taking out my headphones wait a little bit then put them back in and unlock. - Strange glitch. Also had device go blank, no power on no response from anything, just needed to reset it using the paperclip in the reset/mic part (Like the Dingoo)
Best Handheld device since the dingoo. :)
Thanks for the work SNESFAN. You're right, the new firm doesn't include the uImage, just uImage_recovery. Maybe renaming the recovery uImage it can be done, or not, it's just a thought.uimage_recovery is different from uimage (file sizes) it might match up with recovery.img which would be funny... beating my head agianst the wall trying to use documented android compiling tactics to figure this device out, and amlogic is off doing their own thing entirely :o
One of the files is called image-ext? Shouldn't be image-ext.new? I don't know, but I following bitrider's advice he talked bout image-ext.new.
I Have seen that the initramfs file can be edited (I did it windows with a program like Notepad ++. There are some lines about cpu max and min frequency and freq_step. I don't know if these lines should be edited too apart from the hex values. It's something that comes to my mind right now.

Xavier
Hey Xavier are you still about?
Hi Xavier, what games have you got running at 60fps? Are the more demanding games like double dragon or outrun running fullspeed? Please comment on some of the Mame games which are running perfect or near perfect to give us an idea of how good Mame on the S601 is coming along if you can
thanks
which android version is on the jxd exactly?
i wanna give apk programming a try to make a button -> touch app :p
Yes, i was a bit too optimistic ;-)
Outrun runs between 30 to 45 fps.
By decreasing the audio sample i now have Metal Slug 1 & 2 totally playable (between 45 and 60 fps depending on what's on the screen)...
Pang is running at 60fps as well as older games such as Black tiger, bombjack.
Xavier
well i guess that would be another suggestion for the next firmware
about the apk: dont expect much in the near future, i have quite some school work to do and first need to get used to android apk developing at all :p
I'm having a button combo issue in more emulators now.
When the R1 + Left + Square buttons are pressed it is recognised as the Start button.
Same thing with L1 + Right + X
Also L1+ Left + Triangle
Also R1 + Right + Circle
Tried it in FPSE and N64oid and it does them so must be a hardware thing, don't think I noticed it before because they're not commonly used combinations (like R1+R2 etc.). In fact I only noticed it when playing Soul Edge.
i wish it supported wifi multiplayer!isnt that more an issue of the emulators?
JXD emailed me again, and they don't want to speed up the machine from the 600 mhz. I'm trying something with the scripts bitrider published but i didn't get anything, and my android/linux knowledge is very limited, so I'm a bit dissapointed right now.

Did they give a reason why? After all they list it as 1ghz on their site, it's a bit misleading if the actual clock speed is only just over half of that.
If it's because of battery life then surely that should be up to the user, maybe include No Frills CPU as a variable controller?
Methinks they may have bought some cheaper "factory reject" chips that aren't too stable past certain clocks, would explain the bargain price....
chmod 755 /data/local/zergRush
/data/local/zergRush
It should run and send hundreds of zerglings to kill the opponent. 8)cp /data/local/su /system/bin/
cp /data/local/Superuser.apk /system/app/
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 644 /system/app/Superuser.apk
reboot
This is how I've rooted my S601 from day one. i say that we should all email jxd and ask them to include a program like No Frills CPU so we can clock the jxd s601 to 1ghz like they have advertised we should also include in are emails that we understand that batter life would be effected but with a program like No Frills CPU it would be the users choice. i feel if enough people email them then they will give in.
If anyone wants to manually root their device (ie: linux users), you can just run the standard zergRush (https://github.com/downloads/revolutionary/zergRush/zergRush.zip) script. You'll need the android sdk installed (or at least a working adb)
Adb push the unzipped zergRush into the /data/local directory along with the su and Superuser.apk from inside here (http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip)
adb shell into the device, run the followingCode: [Select]chmod 755 /data/local/zergRush
It should run and send hundreds of zerglings to kill the opponent. 8)
/data/local/zergRush
After it runs, run adb shell again, and make sure you have a # prefixing your command line. This indicates you have root.
Now you have to move the superuser files into place, set the permissions, and reboot.Code: [Select]cp /data/local/su /system/bin/
This is how I've rooted my S601 from day one.
cp /data/local/Superuser.apk /system/app/
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 644 /system/app/Superuser.apk
reboot
I bet the unlockroot and breakdroid scripts are using the same method in the background, I just prefer the manual way.
zergRush thread on xda... (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1296916)
Superuser from here. (http://androidsu.com/superuser/)
note: Titanium backup will complain about about su's permissions. You should tell titanium backup to stfu about it in its GUI Preferences cause the 6755 they want to change you to isn't preferable over 4755.
E-mailed Grip Games about One Epic Game, it runs fine on the S601 as evidenced on my site (http://gamingonbatteries.com/one-epic-game-review-s601-android/) but it could be a good amount better if it had a feature to allow using the physical buttons instead of touch screen only.
I got a reply this morning (about 9 hours after the first e-mail was sent). Basically, adding physical buttons use is a feature they are thinking about adding in a future update but it is not definite yet. They mentioned that they will base it on the Xperia Play inputs (understandable as that is the current leader for Android gaming with physical buttons).
It is a start. I suggest that people e-mail developers too since JXD is not exactly being very open minded about their kernel and other closed resources. If we can get developers to better support compatible devices like the Play then we win anyhow.
I am off to e-mail the developers of that Captain America title now.
Well there might be a way to do this using GameKeyboard app... it works with GTA III ect its only 1.49 on the market 8)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.locnet.gamekeyboard
8)
push flash_image and the new kernel of your choice to the sdcard:
$ adb push flash_image /sdcard/
$ adb push kernel800.img /sdcard/
open a shell:
$ adb shell
become superuser:
$ su
install flash_image program
# cp /sdcard/flash_image /system/bin
flash the image
# flash_image boot /sdcard/kernel800.img
reboot
# reboot
News Flash, Gamekeyboard lets you re-map physical buttons works great... video coming SOON! of Limbo running on Onlive with physical buttons on the JXD....... well happy

Also, any info on battery life would be great.Played about 20 minutes of GTA3 with the 900mhz kernel while my s601 plugged into my computer (ostensibly putting out 500mA 5v via usb). When I started, the battery was at 96% and charging, and after 20 minutes, it was at 94% and "charging".
@abhoriel thanks so much for this - might wait till there's a tutorial how to flash it, encase I mess it up lol,
I`m no fussed if it blows up lol... how does this work say I flash the 1Ghz .img then does this mean I can go anywhere from 600Mhz to 1Ghz or is it set straight to that value?
Cheers
ruffnutts
Kernel 1 ghz is not stable, at least in my console. I suffer several reboots so I can use it. I will try the 900 mhz now.
Maybe we need some in between ones like 850/950 ect... the Yinlips G18 runs fine @ 850Mhz so they reckon ;)
News Flash, Gamekeyboard lets you re-map physical buttons works great... video coming SOON! of Limbo running on Onlive with physical buttons on the JXD....... well happy
ruffnutts 8)
Downloaded matey, can you export your keysettings file and possible mail or pm me it.
Cheers mate
Ok here is the Onlive Mapping for those interested... please make sure input method is set to gamekeyboard when trying to use not sure if this is saved in the file lol, also use menu button to hide on screen buttons 8)

Yeah we do. I was hoping that we could get setcpu to work, allowing people to set up their own min and max speeds from within it. That way, everyone gets the same 1GHz kernel, but can adjust their speed more finely. If someone wants to look at getting that working, it would be great
I've tried kernel800.img and it is unstable for me too. Console gets hot quickly, games freeze.
Firmware restore from sdcard has helped me to get things right.
Anyway thanks for the great work, abhoriel. Waiting for your instructions for kernel hacking.
When you flash the 1GHz image, it allows the CPU to go up to 1GHz. When the device is not under load, then it will stay at a low clock, but once you start an emulator, it will clock up to 1GHz if required :)
Actually, the minimum frequency is 100MHz, so it could be anywhere from 100MHz to 1GHz.
no, I am not modifying the cpu governor structures. maybe I should try that next :) that would explain the problems. When you flash the 1GHz image, it allows the CPU to go up to 1GHz. When the device is not under load, then it will stay at a low clock, but once you start an emulator, it will clock up to 1GHz if required :)

the governors, conservative, ondemand, performance (not sure if all 3 are built in) should have it's own frequency tables as well. Did you modify the freq in one location or two? as one should correspond to the governor in the kernel as well.
at least from my poking it has the minimum set to 300mhz in the governor so it might not know it can go lower than 300mhz that's why it's acting erratically. I'll wait to see how you modified the kernel and see if I can do something with a custom setcpu profile as well.
Maybe we need some in between ones like 850/950 ect... the Yinlips G18 runs fine @ 850Mhz so they reckon ;)
Thanks a lot abhoriel. I'll give new kernels a try. 800 mhz seems stable to me, at least till the moment.
Could we have a nice tutorial please 8)

let me know how it goes :) try the 850MHz. my jxd seems to work well at 900MHz. I just played the first dungeon in ocarina of time anyway and had no trouble (with overclock, the game becomes completely playable!).
adb push setcpu.txt /sdcard/
100000,200000,300000,400000,500000,600000,650000,700000,750000,800000,825000,850000,875000,900000,925000,950000,975000,1000000
a list of frequencies (in KHz) in order of size.this thing runs like a dream on 900mhz, no shutter or lag in games that struggled at 600
setcpu works great with that custom profile, changed from conservative to ondemand governer (beware of performance it will eat your battery for lunch, just used for benchmarking)
;) np man, thank you for all your hard work
think zepxxx already beat me to the oneclick script too, might want to throw in setcpu + profile in your next version
Fantastic work !!I have no idea about whether there is space. maybe these pictures will help: http://forum.openhandhelds.net/index.php/topic,39.0.html
Does someone know if there's room for a heatsink over the CPU?
It will surely aid to get a more stable system on higher frequencies.
Does the overclock affect the RAM speed? Maybe the RAM chips also benefit from some heatsinking...
I've been testing the 950 mhz kernel and seems completely stable to me. I use the SETCPU profiles that you people have uploaded and SETCPU seeems to works ok. I've passed the stress test that SETCPU has at 950 mhz for more than an hour and works perfectly, at least in my JXD.that's great. I havent stress tested mine for that long yet! 950MHz is a fantastic speed
I'm not using SETCPU and console works like a charm. When I'm not playing I don't know which CPU speed is, but works ok, and when I use an emu, performance is excellent, so I guess the console set up the max speed automatically. I will try the config you have put anyway.I use adb to check the current frequency:
$ adb shell
$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq
Could we have a nice tutorial please 8)
what kind of tutorial do you want? :)

Ok think I know what to do no worries, I have the latest firmware and rooted already so all I need to do is install flash_image and the kernel of my choice, so by the looks of things the 950Mhz one is the one to use... is that right?
Cheers 8)

ruffnuts, make sure that USB storage is turned off first. if its turned on, the device and therefore adb cannot access the sdcard.

No go says rm failed... man I've had to flash this thing over and over lol don't make sence
ok, but just remember, these kernels are still being tested. SetCPU seems to cause my device to run very slowly sometimes, no idea why. any feedback would be good :)

I've noticed that sometimes the CPU sticks to the minimal frequency.
I've set 200Mghz as minimal and 750 as max.
I use cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq with adb shell to check the frequency.
When i pause mame and go back to it, i often have the freq that stick to 200Mgz.
Which makes the game run very slowly. Going to the config menu and coming backk to the game (several times) make the cpu run faster.

Easy tools didn't work for me either... it did a bunch of transfers, then a message related to "rm" popped up quickly on the s601 screen (went away quickly though, so I'm not sure what it said.)
I'd chose option 14, and after it did it's work, I have no setcpu.txt file in /sdcard.
Awesome work guys! I have a little question, I can't boot any N64 roms or NES roms using NESoid and N64oid. I select a rom and after that the screen goes black and shows me the romlist again. SNESoid on the other hand works perfect, just like FPSE. I have rooted the device and run zepxxx's rom. Also, where did you guys get TigerMAME? I can't find it anywhere :O

Don't worry about "rm". I use command delete before install.
If you have file in command not show error.
OK, So i update hide command "rm".Because fallacy mean "fail".
S601-easy-tools create file setcpu.txt to /system/sd/setcpu.txt check it have file. If you have it everything ok.
Program setcpu can read path /sdcard/setcpu.txt, /system/sd/setcpu.txt and /data/local/setcpu
I create S601-easy-tools don't need sdcard.
Well it wont go that far, it installs but chainfire 3D aint in the list after install very strange, BTW I`m side loading the apk
my unit identified itself in the market as "MID JXD S601WIFI".this is fine and normal, build.prop only changes how it identifies it's self to android market, not the dev/vendor id codes for the usb. It's real close the the HTC Dream iirc than anything else android related. But it seeing that is normal
I then went to my PC, and tried to push some apps to the JXD, and nothing would push to it (it said the download would start, but the downloads never started.) I manually copied a build.prop from one of the previous "tools" archives from zepxxx which specified that the device was the JXD and everything is back to normal (fixed the problem.)
Previously, the down button on the right hand side (the "circle" button if i recall correctly) could be used as the gas pedal, but it no longer works. So, I'm trying to figure out if I need/want a different .kl file. Would that be specified in the qwerty.kl file, or the adc.kl file?you may want to go back to stock qwerty.kl for now, not sure what all games are effected by the back/circle problem, but still haven't gotten a solution for this one yet. Think there's a work around using "game keyboard" or something to that effect that allows you to remap keys for games that don't work right.
when you install a app via the web browser, under your list of devices in android market does it show sony ericsson xperia play or jxd S601? That would be important, you might need to "clear data" after changed your build.prop
Well, that's something that is kind of odd. Last night when I was having the problem, I logged onto the market via my windows PC, and I had the choice of two devices to push apps to: the S601 and an "ericsson 800" (or something like that.)the ericsson r800i is the sony ericsson xperia play
I tried pushing to both, but no downloads ever started on my s601.
As I said, I changed my build.prop file to an older one, my device is now functioning with the market again, but when I check the list of devices in android market, there's no trace of the ericcson, just the s601.
Thoughts?
the ericsson r800i is the sony ericsson xperia play
does sending any apps to it not work, or just some apps? It does take a couple min sometimes
...or could you possibly make a small script that creates a kernel with the desired mhz?
so everybody can adjust it to their own jxd
also i really hope the crashing is an issue of overheating, so i can put heatsinks on it to make it better :p
I gave it about 10 minutes, and nothing.
And I logged onto the market on my s601, and went under "my apps" - this should list everything I've purchased that is compatible, and should have them as "uninstalled", but my list was empty except for GO launcher.
you can follow these instructions to make your own kernel (third post down):

I had the same problem. It was fixed by un-install/re-install of n64oid. Hope that helps.
My unit is running stably at 950 mhz but I am having trouble with fpse running too many fps. Would it be better to try to fix it within fpse settings or just find the mhz that runs it best?

Just flashed it using the cmd method and it still messes the JXD up... now I have to reflash it all again don't make sence, I have superuser so I'm baffled now might wait for a custom rom.. its like I'm the only one having flashing probs...
Well, if you used your own lzma without knowing linux commands then you have done very well. I will update my instructions to use the native lzma :)you can follow these instructions to make your own kernel (third post down):
http://forum.openhandhelds.net/index.php/topic,43.0.html
thanks a lot for instructions!
i don't know linux commands, but i've managed to patch the kernel and console works fine with it.
i used lzma from my distrib and as you said it worked.

Try using the frame limiter. If you tick this option game will never be more than 50/60 fps, depending on if the game is pal or ntsc.
Are you sure that you have updated to the newest firmware from JXD first? that would explain no kernels working. What update are you using to reflash your device?
This tool is not working for me aswell reflash it million times in the middle of it again go to JXD website and Download the latest firmware then extract it to your SD card then while pressining power and the menu button,Yeah that's exactly what I just did, it's working again but it's a shame that those EasyTools didn't work :(
It will boot into ugrading.zip then just click update from sd and let it reflash 8)
are you using the stock market or did you replace it with the one that was supplied a while back? google vending 1.3 i think it was?
I will update my instructions to use the native lzma :)
make_image from your zip file didn't want to work. It said that it is not installed in my system. So I had to install it with apt-get.To run a program in linux, you need to set the permissions to executable, then make sure you specify the path as well when running the executable (unless you put it into a directory in your PATH variable).

The ./ in the command specifies the current directory.
is there a way to see all the apps on the market and install them and make it think your device is compatible cause there are lots of things i cant download including facebook
Actually wiping all userdata and reformatting the media partition works. So far no luck installing the overclock kernel though. On my second try (started with the 900 mHz one).
Maybe thats why I have problems flasshing as well had no luck with the tool so where is /data/local/tmp?This would only be an issue when trying to root, not flashing the kernel.
Actually wiping all userdata and reformatting the media partition works. The old sledgehammer flyswatter technique ;)

Well I bought it just need to get it off my phone to the S601 lolI swear by Root Explorer ;)
Trying to root my HTC wildfire S with unlock root but never worked any ideas?Ehh not really sure. It depends on the version of the software you're running.
Try old games like half life ect... love to see a video moofree ;)Not old as half life, but here's a video.
Make sure you're running the newest version of gta3. They changed the keybindings with version 1.3.
This one here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14536681/qwerty.zip should work so long as you haven't changed the stock s601 build.prop settings.
Your qwerty.kl did the trick, thanks!
For reference sake, is this the stock qwerty.kl, or a modified one?Make sure you're running the newest version of gta3. They changed the keybindings with version 1.3.

Someone know if netflix is compatible?
Someone know if netflix is compatible?
Yep runs sweet :)
I'm getting a bit annoyed now. My JXD doesn't want to be overclocked at all. I've got the 800 Mhz kernel working now but get random freezes and reboots. JXD must have bought a bunch of rejected higher clocked A9 Processors and underclocked them. This is done quite often with PC processors but in this case it really makes the JXD underpowered. Does anyone have a good idea to coax more power out of this thing?
any news on remapping physical keys/buttons to screen presses?
I'm a JXDS601 newbie...just got my JXDS601 a few days ago. I put the new firmware in and rooted it. The problem I'm having is some of the some of the emulators I've tried will not work. I bought the unit for old school emulation (8+16 bit). I'm having trouble with GENSOID + NESOID....they simply will not run. Mame4Droid and SNESoid work great. Which old school emulators do you guys recommend???
The only way to fix it that I found is to set select and start to volume buttons in emulator's settings.
Tried "double click/touch"?
Please How can I add a new language
Can you map gamekeyboard to the cursor up/down keys?

I can only get the update on my phone lol.. hope he makes it compatible on the market for JXD, supose you couldn't send me the update moofree till this happens.. ;DYou should just root your phone! ;)
Maybe we should start a new thread for Kainy talk ;)Good idea. I'd like to see how it works on the yinlips devices, and it could be nice on the capacitive s7100...
I finally got mine working correctly. My PC still fails to recognize it as a device, but oddly enough it still allowed me to unlock root.
FPSE seems to run smooth but whenever I try to run games on neoroid it seems to lock up and I have to reset.
I tried to download and install Onlive but I'm getting a message that the s601 is not a compatible device to run it? How did you guys get it to work on your consoles?
i started gingerbreak a while ago, is it normal to need a long time on the jxd?Never took me longer than 20 seconds for the script to run and relaunch adb with root shell
or do i have to use sth else to root it?
._.
we really need a step by step guide i think...
it should be rooted now, new firmware installed as well.
but i still cannot remove the stock apps.
next thing would be new qwerty.kl and new mhz kernel.
somebody willing to help me via pm/skype?

though it seemed i onnly needed to tell windows which driver to use lol
I've lost count on how many times I've tried @ bamboori how did you do it - flash the kernel that is?
I left my JXD for a few days and went back to my trusty PSP. Reading ruffnuts posts however makes me wonder if the JXD is flashed correctly. I guess I'll try again tonight. At 800 Mhz it freezes randomly but at 900 it gets stuck at the JXD bootscreen. That doesn't sound like overheating to me (although Singapore is oretty hot to begin with)
See I new I was doing it right it flashed @750Mhz gutted wished it could go faster >:(
today i received my s601 :) but my power led doesnt work :(. i hope the rest works fine.
Alright, me again. ;)
I recently loaded up my unit with tons of GBA games and tried to run gameboid but it asked for a bios file. I found the bios, put it into the root of my SD card then tried to select it when the emulator asks for it but after I selected it it went right back to asking for it and this continued over and over again. The name of the bios file is gba_bios.bin if that makes any difference.
I got neoroid for my neo geo needs and placed a bunch of supported games on my SD card as well. I go to run a game, I then get some loading bars and then it immediately goes to a white screen and a second later takes me back to the emulator menu.
The only emulator that seems to work so far without any problems is FPSE, which to be honest I was immensely surprised about.
Ruffnutts: Thanks again for your Onlive app. Unfortunately when I try to find the app to install it on my SD card it can't find it at all?
Tried all suggestions for Gameboid and nothing seems to work. It keeps telling me to choose a bios file even after I selected the bios file.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall which allowed me to successfully choose the bios. When I try to load a rom it tells me to choose a bios first. :P
The Onlive apk that ruffnutts sent me does not show up as an option to install when I try to use the appinstaller program.
So far I can't say I'm happy with this device...
today i received my s601 :) but my power led doesnt work :(. i hope the rest works fine.
Power led is not bright. Try to look at it in darkness.
I'm still in shock that mine can't even handle 750Mhz.... might have to go in the bin lol

I can upload somewhere my 725 MHz kernel if you want.
Thanks that would be cool - all though I never manualy flash mine I used the easy tools lol, could you create a .bat file to flash it.. still can't get the hang of this cmd stuff lol ;D

Do I need setcpu? was thinking of using a app called andriod overclock...
Well, if you don't want to limit frequency manually then you don't need SetCpu.
On the other hand it's interesting to ask someone who knows what's the difference between performance when SetCpu runs and doesn't limit frequency and performance when SetCpu is uninstalled
Now Using setcpu and running fine for 700mhz, will stress test 750mhz after work. but able to check during my break. Overclocking working fine at lower freq thanks to abhoriel instructions(Should've re-read them). Need to order a heat sync after payday. see what this can do then. It's just like when i first got dingux running right. Love this device to bits at the moment. Trying to take it steady until i feel comfortable with the battery usage level.
Big thanks to everyone working on this so far,
I agree with the need for a custom rom at the moment.
Using qq player for video mainly now as after rooting had problems with the google movie player thingy, still not really bothered too much about that as when i can use so many great apps. Splash top is working fine also.
I love how customisable this device is and the support from dingoonity is great and the info you get from xda is awesome.

So the JXD S7100 must have unsiged updates because there's a custom rom for that..
Well the 750 Mhz is stable so far. I'm waiting for some feedback on cpu heatsinks. That might help a bit. The average temperature here is already 35C so I guess I can't blame the little bugger to faint at high frequencies. Keeping my fingers crossed for a real tablet with game controls. 7-8", Core 10 or maybe even a Tegra 3?

Where are you buying this from? Release a week away and I am not finding any stores that are taking preorders.
Someone had posted a ZIP file that ran a batch file that auto did the commands to run the JXD at 725 MHZ. It worked wonderfully for mine, but I'd like to go higher. I'm having trouble doing it manually though. Could someone upload a similar ZIP that changes it to 900 MHZ or 1 GHZ?Have you read this thread? If not try it. There are several posts with links to the tools.
Was thinking of trying AnDOSBox but I've never used DosBox before.. anyone else?Dosbox turbo is much better and works great on the yinlips so it should be good on the jxd

Try another kernel if you can. I have mine with the 950 mhz kernel and works like a charm.

Could you tell us the impact on battery life when running at 950MHz?
Also, anyone know of any funky 3D android games that work ok on S601? ;)
also, how do you modifiy the qwerty.kl file and put it on the jxd? its a bit annoying that o is bound to back :p
Hi, here is a quick video comparing Yinlips YDPG18 Updated and JXDs601 on N64oid:

Wow thank you for the awesome tip. Dosbox turbo is the best dos emulator I've tested. Now I can play my favorite dos game at full speed.
Any tip on what keyboard program I should get for it? One with ESC, Alt, Ctrl, F1, F2... etc?
I'm curious if there is a connection between where everyone bought their s601 and overclock capabilities (ie maybe certain exporters received faulty units to sell at a discount).
I bought mine through etronixmart for $69.99 and shipped with DHL. I received a white unit (there was no color select option).
Mine runs at 950 mhz with no problems.

There are a few funky 3D Android titles that work great on the S601 such as Push the Zombie:
http://gamingonbatteries.com/push-the-zombie-review-jxd-s601-android/
and these that I haven't reviewed yet:
Cordy (Pandemonium style 3D)
Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave (still haven't gotten it to load past loading screens- maybe it is just a slow loader?)
Tiki Kart 3D (Google Play says it won't work on S601 but it does)
I am sure there are more out there. I will keep an eye out for you.
If one was to purchase this device, what store would be the best bet to get a Jxd S601 able to overclock to 950mhz? Thanks! ;D
I noticed on ARM site, that the Mali400 can have from 1 to 4 cores... Does anyone know how many cores we have in the S601 ?
Could be a light one for some cost reason...
still on my quest to find the best d-pad replacement :p
try to turn on the Direct texture and gpu sync hack in Snes9ex and see if it can help.
Also we can add .... Asphalt 6 Adreanline (using Chainfire 3d with qualcomm plugin)....
Also we can add .... Asphalt 6 Adreanline (using Chainfire 3d with qualcomm plugin)....
Do you really have Asphalt 6 running correctly ?
I installed Chainfire 3D, qualcomm driver....
Asphalt 6 downloaded from the Google store....
It seems to work untill the race really start... Then the display si totally buggy.
And i get something like 2 frames per second.
Did you do something special ?
Thanks,
Xavier
.. Do you really have Asphalt 6 running correctly ?...Yeah, mine is from android market too. I downloaded the data via wifi. I use chainfire 3d (the free version from market) and select qualcomm plugin. nothing special
I have r800I too. that's really strange. The game doesn't detect buttons anyway, so playing with accelerometer is quite annoying for me.
ok guys just got my 601 and there's a lot I want to do with it but I'm new to all of this and need a lot of help. This is what I want to do:
1. get the damn menus in english
2. install latest firmware
3. root
4. get rid of ALL the installed crap that came on it
5. install android market / google play
6. overclock
Ive never done any of these things with an android device and really need simple step-by-step instructions. Can anyone put together some kind of detailed tutorial about how to get this thing running from out of the box to the current consensus best set up? Ive read through this whole thread but its really hard to keep track of everything and things keep changing it seems. I think a lot of people could really use a tutorial, especially as more and more of us start getting our units in. Thanks to anyone who can help and to everyone whos putting the time and effort in to make this an awesome device for all! :)
how do you change the menus to english? I go into what should be the settings menu but nothing for languages seems to be in it

click settings scroll down to the letter A click that, then the first option in the list click that and change it to english 8)
...and on the gba :P
just that teh gba one is not as deep. if the gba one doesnt stick out enough ill use that one
hello,
i want to change my backround in to a live wallpaper but i cant change it. how does it work in go launcher ex?
thank you. :)

okay, so nes.emu works now.
but i stil lstruggle with neo.emu x_x
when i open some games, it simply exits after loading.
metal slug 3 and 4 are the only ones that work
JXD has put a new firm with the speed modified at 800 mhz. I haven't tested because i'm running mine at 950 mhz, but it's good for those with problems flashing.Wonder if its worth my while trying it - fed up of keep reinstalling shit lol

Wow! I've just upgraded firmware and my console runs at 800 MHz stable.
Old kernel patched with abhoriel's method worked stable at 725 MHz only.
I'll try to patch kernel from new firmware to higher frequences and test it when I have time.

20,120,309so yeah... anybody can use this? :P
This version is a special version of the archive, the main changes are as follows:
1, based on the branch on the basis of the latest Venus English version
2, to improve the core of the core voltage to 1350mv
3, the highest frequency to improve the system to 800mhz
4, the improving the uboot of the core voltage to 1350mv
5, the compiled version of the engineering model
quote of What'sNEW.txt from the zip file:not sure what 1 means

SetCPU is only reading this firmware @ 528Mhz?
5, would imply they did a eng build of android instead of end user, I bet we can flash custom roms now
and i bet ro.secure=0 or root access out of the box

With this firmware console has root access out of the box
cool, I'll try to resign the stock update.zip file and flash it when I get home, that will let us know we can flash custom roms
do you have superuser apk installed in /system/app/cool, I'll try to resign the stock update.zip file and flash it when I get home, that will let us know we can flash custom roms
Hmm, it's very strange root. UnlockRoot says that my console is already rooted and adb works fine but applications (for example Samba Filesharing) say that it's not.
I continue experiments :)
do you have superuser apk installed in /system/app/Well, I've just installed superuser.apk and it didn't help.
I'll look at it, I'm pretty excited about having a engineering build, if they did it right like I'm thinking it should allow for public test key signing of custom roms.do you have superuser apk installed in /system/app/Well, I've just installed superuser.apk and it didn't help.
# cat /dev/mtd/mtd4 > /sdcard/kernel.img
and kernel.img is 33 mb instead of 3 mb from previous firmware.ruffnutts, try with setcpu, copy this attached file (setcpu.txt) to the root of th sdcard. When you open SetCPU it should ask you an option. Choose the second one (read frequencies from sdcard) and that's it. Put setcpu to performance mode and you should see 800 mhz.
Edit, I see you did it. Well, I keep this post because it can be useful to anyone.
I've tried this command:that's the uncompressed kernel and ramdisk, the 3mb is compressed, a whole bunch of that 33mb is blank iircCode: [Select]# cat /dev/mtd/mtd4 > /sdcard/kernel.img
and kernel.img is 33 mb instead of 3 mb from previous firmware.
Is it normal?
I've tried this command:Code: [Select]# cat /dev/mtd/mtd4 > /sdcard/kernel.img

I've tried this command:Code: [Select]# cat /dev/mtd/mtd4 > /sdcard/kernel.img
and kernel.img is 33 mb instead of 3 mb from previous firmware.

its normal. when you cat the mtd block device, the entire device (32MB) is copied. The first 3MB is real kernel, the rest of it is just filled with garbage or 0 I would imagine (I have not actually looked). When you extract it, the final 0s are ignored.
I will need to update my kernel patcher to work on the new kernels (it searches for a clock structure containing 600MHz to patch - its now 800MHz so it wont find it). I don't have time today, but I will release a new patcher tomorrow. If you want to have a go yourself with a hex editor or whatever in the mean time, go ahead though! :)
const char sig[] = "\x00\x46\xc3\x23\x00\xe1\xf5\x05\x00\x46\xc3\x23";
to const char sig[] = "\x00\x08\xaf\x2f\x00\xe1\xf5\x05\x00\x08\xaf\x2f";
and patcher didn't find a9_clk structDOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER THIS DEVICE SUPPORTS USB OTG ?

What did I do wrong?
1, based on the branch on the basis of the latest Venus English version
so this one was bugging me, but I figured it out
"Venus" is some form of codename for the S601... classy
http://www.ebellking.com/catalog/product/view/id/65/s/venus-s601-tablet-pc-4-3-inch-android-2-3-arm-cortex-a9-1ghz-512mb-ddr3-flash-10-3-supported-good-performance-playing-games/
http://www.cntechnews.info/venus-s601-limit-buy-398-yuan/
so this is a modified version of the latest firmware (the one with the tv out) built using the eng flag duing the android build process and has a modified 800mhz kernel with increased max voltage and probably English as default language
What did I do wrong?
Good question. thats the first thing that I would have tried :) I recommend opening the kernel in a hex editor and searching for 0x2faf0800. hopefully you'll find the a9_clk struct, and you can see what values have changed. then you should be able to patch the sig in the patcher :)
otherwise, if someone can upload the kernel, i might be able to fix the patcher tonight. but i wont be able to test it. (running on mobile internet so the 80MB download from JXD is a killer)

I've changed 0008af2f in 3 places and my console seems to work stable with it at 900 MHz. Tomorrow I'll test it harder.
Thanks for advice :)

Managed to get N64oid working fine but FPSE keeps closing when i go to open an ISO :(
I'm reading in some spanish forums that FPSE and n64oid don't work ok in this new firm. Can anybody confim this?
interesting side note: after installing the new default 800 mhz fireware I want to root with unlock root and it told me the device was already rooted. So I guess JXD has it rooted by default nowit's "rooted" as in not secure, but if you run the unlocker it will install the binaries and apk that allows you to run superuser, they didn't include those for some reason
is there any consensus on what the best emulators for the various systems are? Im interested mainly in SNES, Sega MD, PS1, N64, and MAME with Neo Geo. really dont want to have to pay much or anything really

SNES9x is better in my opinion than SNESOID. Sound emulation and compatibility are better. For MD the best option is md.emu. It's better than Gensoid (dound in Gensoid is quite terrible in some games). Another free option is Gens4droid.

what's the difference between overclocking by easy tools and installing the overclocked firmware?
I have noticed a significant reduction of temperature running the new stock 800mhz vs original patched 800mhz. Anyone else notice this as well?
I've just installed the 800mhz firmware and wipe cache etc. but now my problem is it will not open anything downloaded from the market place. No Fpse etc. could this be a package installer issue? Did i need to Wipe android secure from my card? any other ideas. Just starting to get on my nerves a bit.
Snes9x is far better but the 3 button combo issue is a pain for megaman x 1,2,3
Well FPce is working for me now maybe it is something to do with the adroid.secure try it ;)

Has anyone created an overclocked kenel based on the new firm? at 900 or 1 ghz. I'm running mine at 950mhz and i would like to test it at 1ghz but I can't do it the kernel by myself.

I haven't tried the new stock yet, but I will tonight.
To clarify though... the new stock increases the voltage, so battery life would be reduced, but heat will be decreased? Am I understanding that correctly?
If so, the heat is inversely proportional to the voltage?

I created 900 MHz kernel. I'm not sure that I did everything right, but it works for me.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2552498/kernel900hw.zip
I installed 600 MHz firmware and flashed with this kernel.
Everything works fine for now. FPCE runs without problems.
I think that we can add "high voltage" kernels to Easy tools to flash normal firmware and there is no need to install 800 MHz firm.

Voltage x Current = Power(watts).
Current² x Resistance = Heat.
Thanks, that's a great idea. If someone has ability to create new kernels up to 1 ghz, I will try. I'm running 950 mhz with previous firm, so maybe with the voltage mofified I could even reach the 1 ghz. Just to try it.
that's not the way it normally works, higher voltage + higher clock = more heat, the battery is right over the processor so that would actually make things worse.
All I know is when I was running at 800mhz before it got quite warm, now it's not bad at all and I played for about an hour.
at 900mhz, it got quite toasty.
I haven't tried the new stock yet, but I will tonight.
To clarify though... the new stock increases the voltage, so battery life would be reduced, but heat will be decreased? Am I understanding that correctly?
If so, the heat is inversely proportional to the voltage?
No and yes. Higher voltage= Higher battery life, Heat decreased.Code: [Select]Voltage x Current = Power(watts).
Current² x resistance = Heat.
So bigger Voltage, lesser current needed for the same work(measure in W) and lesser current = less heat generated.
Current(or "wasted" current) is what generate heat. Less heat is caused by less wasted current what create less battery use. Hope you understand my engrish.
TL;DR: With the JXD overclock, it will get less hot and improved battery lifetime.

but not everythign works fine yet with the new firmware, right?i flashed this kernel to the old firmware.

Abhoriel, so it basically means that improves stability, right? To get the modified voltage we have to install the new firm, or just with the kernel is enough?
and do i have to install all the new firm to test the new voltage? or just with a kernel is enough? I'm testing a 1 ghz kernel but I'm not sure about the voltage I haveAbhoriel, so it basically means that improves stability, right? To get the modified voltage we have to install the new firm, or just with the kernel is enough?
exactly :) it improves stability at higher clocks. but if instability is caused by high temperature, then increasing the voltage will only make it worse
and do i have to install all the new firm to test the new voltage? or just with a kernel is enough? I'm testing a 1 ghz kernel but I'm not sure about the voltage I haveMy console worked stable at 725 MHz only with old kernels.
Just flashed the 1Ghz kernel to the new 800Mhz firmware now black screen after the first android screen?turn the console off with long pressing power.
Just flashed the 1Ghz kernel to the new 800Mhz firmware now black screen after the first android screen?Don't you see android logo? I flashed it over the previous firm (the 600 mhz one) and works for me.
I flashed it over the new 800Mhz one and I see the first JXD android sceen and then it goes black as the abyss lolI had the same problem. Turning console off to 5 minutes helped me.
Abhoriel, if I replaced all combinations of 0x0008AF2F (800 MHz) to 0x00CA9A3B (1000 MHz) in the kernel, is it OK?
no
more voltage means more current will flow (V = IR), R is the same.
more current means more power dissipation (P = I²R or P = IV)
so with higher voltages, theres more heat and more battery usage.
The reason why you increase the voltage is that at high clock rates, current leaking out of the tiny circuitry in more of a problem, and if enough leaks, the CPU starts making mistakes. Increasing the voltage increases the current, so that leaks are less of a problem.

We need the source code :( But, I recommend changing the first value and leaving the others how they are. see what happens :)Thanks! I'll try different variations.
I'm having trouble running some apps with new firmware my FPSE opens and then closes anyone have suggestions or better psx emulator.
Isn't possible to change tv out, to NTSC?
@kashelkin mine was the same as yours only stable @ 725Mhz
What 600Mhz firmware did you flash the kernal to cn or en and what date was it,
I done what you said flash the latest 600Mhz version S601 0229cn with your kernel and
all I get is a black screen after the first JXD android screen.... I can recover so there's no probs there...
Thoughts?
Cheers ruffnutts
Wiped everything - what I mean t by recovery I can reflash back to another firmware lol if you press power and vol+ button together you get the uboot recovery option..Just edit your setcpu.txt file in sd card, and add the frequencies...
BTW just put it in the fridge and it booted into the 900Mhz but setCPU only displying 800Mhz need a proifile text file I take it?
Edit: YAYYYY running @ 900Mhz finally
Hey guys, I don't know if you've done that yet, but wouldn't it be better if the instructions and its updates of this custom ROM for the JXD s601 were in a fixed post on the first page in this topic (or in another topic created by SNESFAN). I'm saying this because it's a little difficult to read almost 80 pages to find out what to do xD.
I have a question....
People seem to be mixing and matching different frequency kernels and firmware (ie: 800mhz kernel with 600mhz firmware or whatever.)
What are the implications of this? (if any?)
Well once I`m booted I can play with the frequency in setCPU, I used Quadrent Stantard to check it was all correct
Full benchmark test scored higher then samsung galaxy tab lol score =2475 ;)
Wow! I've just upgraded firmware and my console runs at 800 MHz stable.
Old kernel patched with abhoriel's method worked stable at 725 MHz only.
I'll try to patch kernel from new firmware to higher frequences and test it when I have time.

My JXD S601 doesn´t run stable at 800Mhz (using the new 800Mhz firmware), also I encountered some freezes during large gameplays at 750Mhz.
Anyone can put a 700Mhz and 725Mhz kernel download links?
I am not linux user, I can´t create my owns patched kernels using abhoriel method.
¡Thanks in advance!
well i ordered these:

Is there a new Easy Tools archive containing the new firmware and patched kernels?

Maybe a heatsink would held the boot problem - freezer works great ;Dlol
Maybe a heatsink would held the boot problem - freezer works great ;Dlol
I think that if we could lower frequency at booting it can help to get rid of freezes.
But it is a good question how to do it.
Kashelkin, I have your 1 ghz kernel and I don't have the boot problem. Maybe you can check if you have in your setcpu the set on boot option on. I have it disabled, and then when the system starts i just run SETCPU and put the machine at 1 ghz with the performance governor. Thanks for advice but it didn't help.
Ok turned on my s601 this morning and buttons aren't working just touch screen this new firmware isn't stable at all for me had 6 freezes in a row lastnight any suggestions.

what is this Go launcher EX and ZDbox crap thats still installed even after running easy tools? are these supposed to be there or can I get rid of them?
Im also being told the facebook for android app isnt compatible with my device. any one else get that?
I have not seen anyone mention it yet but on mine under system info cpu reports as arm v7, architecture 7.
Name: ARMv7 Processor rev 4 (v7l)
Max freq: 800mhz
Min Freq: 100mhz
Current:800mhz (did a benchmark right before launching quandrant)
BogoMips: 1594.70
Hardware: AMLOGIC MESEON3 8726M SKT SH
Rev: 4
ARM Cortex A9 is ARMv7, actually almost every latest ARM CPU are ARMv7 (ARMv8 should be coming soon)
The 800Mhz firmware is amazing, electopia gives me 37.38FPS, the highest score I can get from any devices I own (but it's 480x272 VS 800x600 tablet)
Before using the 800Mhz firmware I was running the 750mhz kernel,
Looks like with this new firmware if yours was running fine at 950mhz, you might easily achieve 1Ghz.
EDIT: do you need/want a guide on how to update the firmware etc? Let me know what you're after I'll try to explain it the best I can
EDIT: do you need/want a guide on how to update the firmware etc? Let me know what you're after I'll try to explain it the best I can
I know how to update the firmware (by copying the update.zip to the root of an sd card etc...)
What I don't know how to do is update the kernel without using easy tools.... How do I go about doing this, using adb?
I'm guessing it's pretty straightforward?
Alternatively, I would think I could use the last "easy tools" release to do it (just rename/replace the old kernel file with the new one?) Would that work?

I think it would be good to add these kernels to Easy Tools for those people who can't overclock their consoles with old kernels.

If you don't want install Go launcher EX and ZDbox. You can remove them .apk in folder "Easy-tools/APK"
But, You need to have one launcher app.
Thank kashelkin. I add high-voltage kernels you request.
And,I update Easy-Tools can select between new or old firmware in overclock mode.

Launcher is the menu, the frontend, the thing where you see the icons, widgets and launch the things. If you don't have a launcher, I don't know what would happen, but maybe only CLI or the plain wallpaper.
If you want to be minimalist, Zeam is the best one.
went back and installed the qwerty.kl and gamekeypad from the easy tools and still cant map any buttons in the emulators. someone please help
went back and installed the qwerty.kl and gamekeypad from the easy tools and still cant map any buttons in the emulators. someone please help
Is the little switch on the bottom of the unit, by the power button, all the way to the left? That turns off the buttons if it is to the right.
btw what do the qwerty.kl and gamekeyboard do then? do I even need those?
Did the official 800mhz update and used the easytools but now I can't access the internal storage. When the s601 boots I get a "safely stopped" message and can't see the flash folder.
okay now i know whats wrong... it refuses to root my device.
are there other options than gingerbreak or the easytools one?
also the exe always gives me errors that there are no files in local/temp or so... its disappearing too quick :/
ruffnutts, try 950 mhz. Performance is quite same compared to 1ghz.
It seems that I've overclocked my console to damage.
It freezes every time when I turn off the screen then turn it on and try to launch application.
Freezes come even with 800 mhz firmware with its original kernel.
Flashing to 600 mhz firmware removes the problem but it's too slow.
Thinking about throwing my console in the trash and bying Xperia Play. >:(
It's strange, I have the 1 ghz and no problems at all. have you tried uninstalling SETCPU?
I've made a new video with Ridge Racer Type 4 and Final Fantasies:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6I2VDfDdkc
I just checked the new game of King of Fighters for Android. With the XperiaPlay Key layout doesn't recognize all buttons, but surprisingly with the jxd original layout works perfect. The incovenience of that is that with the jxd key layout some Xperia PLay Optimzed games doesn't work properly (buttons I mean), so i still prefer the keylayout SNESFAN and just change it to play King of fighters.

Same issue, never even overclocked. Just flashed the 800mhz stock firmware and the problem started (slide to unlock will slide, but will freeze at unlocking until a reboot. Or the device will just randomly reboot out of nowhere.)
This problem persists even after going back to 600mhz firmware.
Attempting a return =\
Thanks for the replyes I try original build.prop, ruffnutts, any hint to configure gamekeyboard?
Ruffnuts, a video explaining how to use gamekeyboard would be great.
It seems that I've overclocked my console to damage.in that case, could you send me the broken one? :D i replaced teh dpad several times, and im not quite sure if the original one might have been better lol

Kashelkin, maybe is a setcpu problem. Have you tried uninstalling the app? Maybe you can try No Frills CPU instead of SETCPU.I tried to uninstall SetCpu but freezes were the same.
I tried to uninstall SetCpu but freezes were the same.
I think it's because of low-quality processor.
1ghzI tried to uninstall SetCpu but freezes were the same.how high did you overclock it before it busted?
I think it's because of low-quality processor.
1ghz
Now I use 900 mhz kernel and limit frequency with SetCpu before locking the screen.
I'll try to play games at 900mhz to see if it goes worse. Maybe my panic was early =)
I bet I don't play my JXD S601 when my Yinlips G16 arrives lol
Well Mine seems fine @850Mhz booting up fine to..... even though it ran nice at 1Ghz just could not boot with out
Making it cold from the fridge lol
Is it the same processor in both the s601 and G16?I bet I don't play my JXD S601 when my Yinlips G16 arrives lol
Yinlips G16 is an Allwinner Cortex A8 processor running at 1 ghz stock and can be overclocked at 1,2 ghz.
I don't know in the case of Yinlips G16, but I have an allwinner tablet with the same processor than Yinlips G 16, and performance is slightly better in Allwinner compared with the JXD, but not a great difference. The Huge diference will be with new Rockichp 30xx processors or the new Amlogic MX ones (they will be Cortex a9 and Real Dual Core)ooo tasty, you got a link to those?
If I use the dingoo a320 charger can burn my jxd?
the dingoo charger says 700mA and the jxd says 500mA.
Or any hint to charging fastest?
I'm using the stock mega drive emulator and up do date firmware and the games run too fast (I'd say roughly 20% too fast). I'm not using the fast forward function - that runs even faster obviously. Most games are unplayable - or at least 10 times as hard. I can't replace the emulator because it's a system emulator.
On a related note - the emulator versions of the ones installed are newer the the ones available for download - how does that work? DO they have their own version numbers?
Ok since reflashing the official 800mhz rom again and using the easytools with ADW launcher I'm getting the FPse problem again where it refuses to load a game.
I have reflashed the rom again, done a factory reset and wiped media/data. Also deleted the .secure folder but still the same.
Is there a definite cure for this? Wiping the partitions sorted it last time but it's not working now.

Thanks a lot, after changing to original build.prop and qwerty.kl i try with 1.1.3 version but don't work (no onlive option). So i buyed the last version from play store and now work like a charm, playing Batman Arkham City in a handheld is really awesome, thanks again
hi
ive updated firmware to jxd 800 mhz firmware, but i cannot now install my jxd as a drive so i cant run easytools or unlockroot because my jxd doesnt show up on my computer as a drive.
can anyone tell me what to do to get my computer to install my jxd drivers ?
thanks
New JXD machine, the v5200:
http://www.jxd.hk/products.asp?id=610&selectclassid=009006
Only 256 ram, and a strange processor. Weird. People from JXD says it should cost about 60 dollars.
ill so get that one lol
dual touch = minecraft playable :D
though its less powerful, so maybe not on fancy graphics n stuff
still pretty nice of jxd to provide low-priced android handhelds

Finally sorted the FPse issue, seems it was down to the easytools with the ADW launcher. Reflashing with the GOLauncher easytools and adding ADW manually worked straight away after multiple attempts using the other method.
Dunno why, might be me doing something wrong (quite likely!) but that's what worked for me.
How exactly you did it? What clock and firmware?
I'm trying all the things but FPse don't want to work in overclocked kernels, but runs fine in stock firmware.

I used the official 800mhz firmware, standard untouched kernels (I've never used the custom overclocked ones) and the easytools with GOlauncher.
Before I reflashed and used the later easytools (the one with ADWLauncher) it worked fine, tried loads of times to get it working with the later one (multiple reflashes, wiped all partitions etc.) but never got it to work. As soon as I went back to the old GOLauncher easytools and manually installed ADWLauncher it was totally fine.
Have no idea why but it's working perfectly now! I never tried to get the overclocked kernels working as the standard 800mhz one is fine for me.
Like I said it's only with the newer easy tools that I had problems, other than when I forgot to do a factory reset.
With the old easytools it's been working ok for me and I've been using it a lot.
Before I found out me JXD Left shoulder was broke I got dosbox turbo running - alone in the dark and moartal kombat II....
ruffnutts
it sucks that it broke :( perhaps its fixable?
Let hope I got mine running so nice at 1ghz but I can't play fpse. Gonna give it a try now.
A new version of FPSE is out, the 0.11.15. Maybe those with problems with new firmware and FPSE can give it a try.

ro.kernel.android.checkjni=1When i removed this strings fpse started to work again.
ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL
which version of go launcher easy tools did you use(link please) I found the 3-31 flashed to stock jxd 600mhz rom then ran the go launcher easy tools installed high voltage 950 and it still doesnt work. And yes I did a format/wipe/media first
Hello guys.
I finally received my jxd yesterday, flashed it with 800M firmware and got the same problem with fpse.
Actually I managed to get fpse work with new firmware. The problem is inside build.prop file. There is two strings which build.prop from old firmware doesn't have:Quotero.kernel.android.checkjni=1When i removed this strings fpse started to work again.
ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=1
and reboot. Worked for me too. I use mame4droid 037b5. It's free in the market. You need the romset for this mame version. If you have problems to find it, just google Mame4wiz and use this romset.
Also using MAME4Droid which has been great so far, hear good things about TigerMAME too.

Check this out
(http://s13.postimage.org/wik9ynz3b/2012_04_10_01_41_29.jpg)
That's wierd. This device definetly can't run 2Ghz. I used abhoriel's tools to create 2Ghz kernel, flashed it and added frequences to setcpu.txt manually. But there is absolutely no performance improvements comparing to 1Ghz kernel. Quadrant and antutu show same cpu score even though /proc/cpuinfo and setcpu show 3986 BogoMIPS.
Interesting. Maybe i did something wrong?

Hi,
I've just bought PES 2012 on googlePlay seeing it's "Xperia PLAY optimized".
The problem is that it does not recognize at all the S601 keyboard.
Anyone has this problem with this game or an other "Xperia play optimized" one and know how that can happen and what to do?
Thanks,
Xavier

Hi I saw a lot of videos of the JXD S601 and I think it is an amazing device BUT i have some questions.Personally, I think if you have a Dingoo your better off waiting. It's only a matter of time before someone releases an Android device with a proper analogue stick. Not having analogue makes N64 games pretty tricky to play.
1. I already have a Dingoo A320 do you think it is still worth the money ?
2. I rally want to use the Wi-Fi so is it good ?
3. Do all the games for N64 and PS1 run smoothly ?
4. I would like to play some of the Android games especially Backstab (http://youtu.be/-py99T6DiFQ) , Earth and Legend (http://youtu.be/dhSlGm0QZZo) and Pocket Legends (http://youtu.be/r060eraLxyE). Would that be Possible ?
Thanks for your help .

Paul, try to edit your build.prop. You have to be root and search if you have these lines in the build.prop:
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=1
ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL
Delete them and reboot the device.
Is there a trick to getting Asphalt 6 to run? I install it from the market, but when I launch it, it says it is incompatible and I should request a refund.
I tried it with 2 different build.prop files (on saying I'm the s601, the other saying I'm the r800i) but same result for both.
Anyone?
Easy-Tools (12-04-2012) (http://db.tt/jDhiAC9t)
Update Easy-Tools again ;D
- Update SetCPU to version 2.3.0.2
- Add Game_Keyboard_1.6.2 support onlive and auto install in option 1 (install apk + remove old app firmware)
Paul, try to edit your build.prop. You have to be root and search if you have these lines in the build.prop:
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=1
ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL
Delete them and reboot the device.
Removed them, rebooted and fpse now launches the games! Thanks. None of them work beyond the start screen but hopefully I'll get there :)
Thank you for your help.
Try installing some Bios files, the one that usually works best for me is 7502 but i usually use my converted pal games. You will also need to go into the misc options and load bios file from there, but remember to restart afterwards.
Is there a trick to getting Asphalt 6 to run? I install it from the market, but when I launch it, it says it is incompatible and I should request a refund.

Anyone?
Have you tried the free version of chainfire3D driver app, install it and the 3d driver then in the defualt openGL settings tick reduce texture size option and then try to boot the game and see what happens, That's how we get GTA III to run properly ;)
I'm using Chainfire for GTA3 as well, but that's just to overcome gfx glitches, no? I didn't think it would have any impact on "compatibility".

A new version of n64oid is out, the 2.7: I have no tested it yet, so I don't know if performance is better or similar.Yeah I noticed that too
So to summarize it ?
I will be able to play N64 and PS1 games without any trouble.
The analog stick is ok but it is not a analog stick at all.
And the Android apps will work fine .
Wi-fi is fine.
hell yeah I am getting one ! 8)
Edit: I read there are some troubles with the android market / google play . But I am sure you guys have already solved it somewhere in the 91 previous pages so could anyone just tell me how to fix it ?
Do all the games work ?
(mostly interested in 3D (MMO)RPGs )

I tried it with my jxd at 1 ghz. It's more or less playable but with frame skips and some sound hiccups. Without sound it works almost perfect.
Just buy one you wont regret it mate ;)
Just got mine yesterday. I'm trying to enable CIFS support without success. I want to load roms direct from a shared folder over wifi ;D
Has anyone else tried CIFS manager? It seems that current kernel does not support it.
I was tried to download cifs.ko and load it manually but i get "exec format error" when i run insmod command.
Most probably because the cifs.ko i got it's not compatible with the kernel.
Any ideas where can i find a compatible file or how i can build one? Note that i'm totally noob on android devices (this is my first)
I`m sure it says on the market that you need busybox installed - have you tried mount manager?

Yes i have already tried mount manager with the same result. Since the cifs.ko module is not included in the stock kernel build, i have either find a "compatible" one and use it (no luck so far), or try to build it from the kernel source code...
SNESFAN or Abhoriel, can you tell me if you know how to modify kernel speed values using an hex editor? I want to try somethin for JXD s7100, but abhoriel's tools don't work for this model (don't find the a9_clk structure). Curiosly abhoriel's tools for s601 seem to work for the s7100B model.
My unique problem is the buttons map.
Have combinations of buttons will that result on START button
>+L1+x= start
>+R1+circle=start
<+R1+square=start
<+L1+triangle=start
These buttons pressed...
I try two qwerty.kl, but have same problem...

@lostaddict I'm out of town all weekend for business but when I get back I'll see if a simple patch like that will work, if not I'll still keep an eye out for something more solid. I have a lead to check up on with our kernel source that said he was going to get it for us... unofficial like ;) I'm taking next week off of work and will have time for some projects I had on the back burner

Curiosly abhoriel's tools for s601 seem to work for the s7100B model.yeah it wont work for every amlogic kernel. I thought about trying to make it use an intelligent algorithm to make it work for all kernels, but it wasn't really practical. the best way is to search the binary for the frequency that the kernel is set at. that may or may not find the a9_clk struct. you can find out because the first 4 bytes in the struct is a pointer to the structure name. if you subtract 0xc0008000 (the virtual mem address at which the kernel executes) from this value, you will get an offset in the binary. go to this offset, and there should be a string called "a9_clk". if its something else, you found the wrong structure ;)
I just purchased kainy, but I can not get the full screen, just looks a little part of the image in the upper LEFT corner, any ideas?.
In case of not work I can get my money back?
P.D: the creator of the gaborom (a custom rom for s7100) has given me a link with a tool to sign the update.zip, I don't know if it works, but maybe someone can give it a try.

I got home and finally tried some games from the compatibility list and I'm simply floored by how good the ps1 emulation is :o (especially for a device that costs 50 quid!).
I wish the English patched Policenauts would run on it but it's no biggie.
can you emulate the '*' key and the '#' key with gamekeyboard or any other application?
im curious as j2me games run pretty much perfect, but castlevania dos needs both of those keys...

Well I've never had this proplem - but what I do when say playing a game over kainy I set the resolution as low as possible as the JXD is only 480x272 so give that a try, but i can assure you it does work, check my youtube video ruffnutts1 is my channel ;)
According to something I read from the developer, that's only supposed to happen with unregistered/cracked versions. So, if you're using a purchased version and it's doing that, it would indicate it didn't get registered properly. You should email the developer about it.

Disregard the post. I couldn't figure out why superuser was crashing. Wrong permissions on /bin/su.
On an unrelated but interesting note the fpse on android market, version 11.16 works fine but reading through complaints from people I read that supposedly the old version was faster. I found a really old 0.1 version, so old it doesn't have a license check so you can install freely and it is a lot faster and has better working sound. Save states are flaky (it seems you can only have one) but who cares. How is it possible that the newest version is so much worse? I'm truly baffled.
Policenauts don't work either but I wasn't really expecting them to. And maybe it's not the best game to play on s601 since there's loads of small font text.

Holy crap it worked!
give me some time to cook up some stuff for a custom rom,
but it's confirmed... resigned the official update with those keys and it allowed me to flash
the keys look similar to the ones I have, but the -Xmx999M flag is something new I haven't seen before... something to do with setting the heapsize... never had to use it before but this is my first rom without a custom recovery
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13150_01/jrockit_jvm/jrockit/jrdocs/refman/optionX.html
kinda makes sense in my head too, the file size is now identical to the official rom, where without the heapsize flag it was seval kb smaller using the exact same files, it wasn't signing the entire file before only the first portion before stopping, the custom recovery must only check that the file was signed, not that anything was injected into it later perhaps. The official recovery must do a complete sig check.
guess the tools were right in front of us the whole time, just didn't know how to use them correctly =/
but the good news is that anyone can make a custom rom now, just stuff it will all the fun stuff you want =D
Paul, Policenauts seem to work in version 0.11.16, just make sure that spusync option in audio is on and restart the game, it should work.
Lets see if I can explain this correctly. The early versions of the psx emulator were not aimed at 100% accuracy and used hacks to make things work. As the emulator progressed new options and fixes that replaced the hacks were added and that is why it is slower. Mame is the same way. Most handhelds use an old build of mame because newer builds are slower but more accurate and do not use hacks that older versions do

Sorry I missed your post somehow and given up. I'll try it again with the spusync option. Thanks! I installed an older version of fpse, wish you could have both versions installed at the same time since the old version plays 3D games a lot better.Lets see if I can explain this correctly. Makes sense. Pity they don't leave the old 'hacks' as an option in the new versions to toggle for games that benefit from it since they seem to be working quite well.
So what version would you recommend? You said you found a 0.1 version?
guys.... game maker studio is in beta phase...
and you can export your games to android...
YEEEEAAAAAAAAAH!
okay, currently it only works if you connect it via usb, but it works! this means (when it comes out and somebody actually buys it) unlimited good games for the jxd!!!!
what would you say... it will be a couple hundred dollars for the program...
if some of us collaborate and get a license? :) the more the better of course
modindex = find_sec(hdr, sechdrs, secstrings, ".gnu.linkonce.this_module");
if (!modindex) {
printk(KERN_WARNING "No module found in object\n");
err = -ENOEXEC;
goto free_hdr;
}
Does anyone know whether the 0.10 version was released as free? There's no license check on it but that doesn't mean anything. Anyway, if you own the current version I don't see anything wrong with having the old one as well.
yeah, mac only... thats whats bugging me :/
yoyo game studio is mac and windows.
can you use keyboard input in gamesalad? not that id get a mac for that lol
After reinstalling firmware to have a clean room still don't work on fullscreen so i don't recommend kainy for this console. Hope I can get my money back but google 15 minutes returns policy is scaring me :(
I got a signature verification failed error
snesfan's romI got a signature verification failed error
Using SNESFAN's ROM or creating your own one?
Actually it seems to run a little smoother. I would love to see this at 1ghz. I dont have as much lag on some of the emulatorsYou can flash a kernel at 1 ghz. Only flash so nothing is erased using flash_image. Get a kernel at 1 ghz ore create with easy tools, put it in your sd together with flash_image (I'm not sure if this comes with easy tools) and in adb open a shell and runthe following:

I think we should have 2 x custom roms 1 minimal and one with all the stuff poeple want, also on the market There's a rom manager app where you can switch between roms -might be useful in some way or another, What you guy's think?
I think if you have loads of roms it would get hectic lol - maybe have a poll on what to put in the roms :)

Thanks, the reason is that a friend of mine has a s7100B, the new version with exactly the same board f02ref and Amlogic m3 cpu. I've created some OC kernels using abhoriel's tools for them, but the flash_image tool doesn't work with this console, so I think the only way is by creating a signed update.zip with the boot.img and the edited folder Meta-inf in it. Is that whay you mean right?
p.D: Any experience extracting a firm which is firmware.bin? (no other files in it)

yeeeees! :D
can you also ask the creator to offer it somewhere where you can via paypal? i wanna support him :p
About gamekeyboard, after all new versión is in beta, so maybe in the final one is fixed. I don't regret of bought the application
It fails in s7100 and s7100B models. I used them properly with the consoles rooted and everything.
When I enter the command, for example:
flash_image boot /sdcard/kernel900.img it says:
flash_image: error reading from sdcard, I've checked the kernel files and seem to created properly, so it's strange. I read in some place that flash_image sometimes have problems if the img file is bigger than 3500kb, so maybe that's the reason.
I don't know, I'll do some research. Your tools worked like a charm in s7100B, and I could create Oc kernels for his device with no problems at all.
SNESFAN, I've testing you rom and works ok. I've seen superuser.apk so I thought It was rooted, but is not, at least /system is read-only right? To make it fully rooted I guess that we need to extract the boot.img. Any idea about this?.
Thanks.

I tried it with Rom toolbox, a tool that I use, and it told me that I was not root. Strange. To modify default.prop you have to extract boot.img, right? In that case, how did you do it? Thanks for your work (I'm just trying to learn)
Qbertaddict. I did that too. I was just trying to figure out the way to make the custom rom fully rooted from the beginning. I'll do some searching.I see. Maybe take a custom AOKP rom from an android based phone and look at it and compare. BlackICE for the nexux is AOKP
Guys, I've tried so many times to download easy-tools from this link: http://db.tt/jDhiAC9t but in the end of the download the browser simply fails =/ what can I do to download the file? Does it have anything to do with dropbox?
Thanks from Brazil!
tested it... for now it only supports single touch, which is a shame :p lets hope they will fix it soon :)
also it doesnt support swipe actions yet... afaik. ill continue testing.
yeah thats exactly what im doing - teh thign is that the dpad and buttons are invisible in minecraft, so no big use for video :p
the thing is that multitouch (simulated) is not yet supported. but its on their list :)
As mentioned before the only issue is rooting. For some reason it doesn't work. While i have access to the system directory from root explorer, i can't use su command from command line. Busybox is installed though.

hi all, past month I brought my JXDs601 and tested..tested and tested so much. Installed news kernels, tested emus, etc.. as many of yours. I'm so happy with it, but something make me scream every time I reboot my device and see the bootanimation haha.
After read this post and learn so much from all of yours about JXD now I want to do my little contribution.
I'm working on new bootanimation for my JXD601 and when finished, share with community and if SNESFAN would, can be included in his next custom firmware rom.
I'm opened to ideas, suggestions and anything you want in the community new bootanimation :)
PD. Trying to do too my custom firmware with root acces.. I think it's not so dificult and if I got it, post a "How to do" !!

Hi, I'm cooking some stuff too. If you want me to test your bootanimation let me know. I'm just starting right now, since I don't have much time, but I think I'm getting some progress. The more information we share, the more custom roms we'll have, so users will have multiple choices. I think it's a great thing.

If it's N64oid then turn frameskip down to 0. For some reason on N64oid and FPse the frameskip seems broken, for me it causes more slowdown and flaky sound even set to 1. Much smoother with it off, on the 800mhz rom Mario64 and Zelda OOT work very well.
Hi guys :)!
Im new on the forums and was wondering if i can get the old menu from the stock rom after i updated with SNESFANS rom.

That is a shame that you are having such trouble from Willgoo, we work with them at Gaming on Batteries and haven't heard of anyone having any problems with them. I do hope that you are able to get your problem fixed with them in a quick manner.
There was a lot of confusion in between email(language barrier I think) but we were able to come to an agreement. I still had to pay return shipping but they are sending out the replacement DHL instead of standard shipping like they wanted to before. Im out $27 but at least I wont have to wait 20 to 30 days to get the replacement. I hope this one is packaged well and works :)
I have removed the don't buy from willgoo post from the boards but will put it back up if this transaction goes south.

Still not acceptable really. They've sold you faulty goods and it's cost you $27?
If it were me I would persist until they accept full responsibility and cover all costs. You paid a set amount for a working console and you should get it without having to pay more.

I agree with you on that part but I am just going to have to take the loss. I have done everything I could just to get them to ship my replacement via DHL. If I start a war on the boards this thread will become even more of a disaster than it already is. I am going to bite my tongue and not buy from there again
I used DHL and when the package arrived it was like somone had punched it so many times :D but my JXD S601 was fine, only the box was totaly desotryed.

Mine too. I was surprised it even turned on. Another issue was they sent me a euro power adapter

I'm having some problems running Gameboid with SnesFAN rom, no matter the game I try, it always return me back to the select rom. I'm sure I have a correct bios and emu because I used it with the 600 Mhz firm and worked perfectly.
Anyone has this problem and knows how to solve it?

I'm not sure from your description what your problem is but if it's the start and select button that get triggered by pressing the combination of directionals with shoulders and face buttons then the way around is to remap the volume buttons to work as start and select as they don't get that issue.
Sorry to hear that you are being stuck for shipping at all, that certainly is not fair. I will be mentioning this to Willgoo the next time I talk with them. The unit is messed up and certainly not your fault, they should handle getting the broken unit back to them and a new one out to you (that is just good business practice).

Hi, I've made a Custom ROM for JXD s601, it is based on the last 800 mhz firm by JXD but it is modified. Some of the main features are:
Main features:
- 1 ghz CPU speed.
- Rooted.
- MARKET installed.
- Gamehub launcher deleted and changed for Go Launcher EX
- Build.prop modified (XperiaPlay)
- Keylayout modified (button layout XperiaPlay style)
- Duplicated libraries deleted.
- Emus y apps installed in data/apps (can be upgraded or uninstalled)
- Emus included and installed: Nesoid, Gensoid, Gearoid, Snes 9x EX , Snesoid, Tiger Arcade, GBCoid, Ataroid
- Apps Included and installed: Chainfire 3d, Battery Indicator, Es Explorador de Archivos, Rom ToolBox, Youtube.
- Changed the bootanimation for a different one (Zelda triforce).
- Some build.prop tweaks to improve performance and make better ram consumption.
- Spanish language by default (you can change that easily)
I’ve included a folder called Extras that includes the following:
- build.prop “original” and original keylayouts (copy them in system/usr/keylayout to use it)
- Kernels at different speeds (If you don’t like that the machine run at 1 ghz (installation instruction of kernel updates included).
- TVOUT app for NTSC that have problems with the default one.
- SetCPU profile. Copy to the root of your SD if you use this application (not included in the ROM)
More info and download (I recommend reading the readme inside the rar)

No joy so far mate, just get black screen. Same on scph1001 and scph7502 unfortunately. Not messed with any other settings due to lack of time. That's using a straight bin/cue rip from the uk pal cd.
Still not having any luck with getting the TV-Out to work on my S601 (I am using NTSC). Any way select the format? The screen on TV is black and white and flipping (scrolling up fast and all wavy like old school cable scramblers did for the pay per view channels back in the day).
I'm working on compiling with the current configuration but so success, family obligations this weekend so not a lot of progress.
But ya still working on it. So i think its going to be more than just a simple import config and make.
I quote myself, because the links are ok now.

Let me know if they work (if someone wants to install it)
Do you think ICS is possible on the JXD?
Do you think ICS is possible on the JXD?
Making a full firm from 0 and taking sources it should be. But I think it's difficult to do that, and I don't hope that JXD releases a ICS firmware for s601.
I'm working on compiling with the current configuration but so success, family obligations this weekend so not a lot of progress.
But ya still working on it. So i think its going to be more than just a simple import config and make.
Good to know that you are working on it :)
What configuration you are using?
I manage to run make using the meson_reff20_defconfig as configuration. Make runs with some warnings (i expected a lot more). I choose this configuration randomly (only check that is m3) so i don't think that this is the right one...
Next step is to modify the configuration in order to compile cifs module as well... ::)
Hey guys, my jxd s601 crashes too often when playing roms or even android games
SNESFAN do you think you could get CyangenMod rom working on the JXD?that's the ultimate goal, that and a custom recovery and fastboot spl.
Like to see gmenu2x ported to android and use that as the default launcher ;)

Those are quite a ways away though, whole lot of work between now and then, hopefully we get some more skilled hands to jump on this device now that source code is available and it's actually possible to do now.
I also want to get a standard linux distro at some point.
Like to see gmenu2x ported to android and use that as the default launcher ;)
I put an open request out there and got some +1's almost a year ago... but sadly no bites from a developer
there was a project on XDA for a more optimized front end launcher that used the xperia play controls but the project and it's source (not opened to public) has been abandoned. =/
I'm also very interested in getting linux working on the device too, and I think its very accomplishable.
QuoteI'm also very interested in getting linux working on the device too, and I think its very accomplishable.
Maybe OpenDingux?
Got my s601 today. Nice so far. The only thing I cannot get to work are the headphones - playing mono (a single channel, left, nothing on right) only. Playing music is not much fun this way. Is my s601 broken or is it in general a problem to get stereo sound out of the earphone jacks. (Still on the stock firmware).Try different headphones.
OK. Here it is... The first module addon for jxd-s601 ;D
Using the config file from the device (Thank you SNESFAN), and after some code editing to include the slow-work in the cifs module, i finally build a working CIFS module ;)
I manage to make it work using CifsManager. For some reason Mount manager does not work with it.
Here are the instructions:
1. Download cifs.ko from here: http://depositfiles.com/files/jwkf7zcu8
2. Create folder /system/lib/modules on your device and copy it in.
3. run the following command using either adb or terminal from the device
insmod /system/lib/modules/cifs.ko
To confirm that module is loaded run this command: lsmod
4. Run CifsManager and create new share
5. You can see the files in share folder under mnt/cifs/share_folder_name
PS: Tested and worked with SNESFAN's rom
PS1: Use it at your own risk
Edit: To avoid load the module manually, you can check "Load cifs module" and "load via insmod" options in CifsManager settings

that's the same errors I was getting when I compiled with the .config from the device, I'm going to try a different route, see if the reff02 or reff11 using the default config is bootable and start migrating over each setting individually to see what's broken and what will need rebuilt.
perhaps JXD added their own backlight codethe "defined and not used" warnings I'm guessing is the missing stuff from JXD
anyway, i guess a backlight driver is not being compiled

if that's the case skimming over some of the previous warnings, there's more stuff missing like powersaving and suspend stuff, power management, ge2d(tv out, tv in<--???),
was able to compile successfully using the reff02 default configuration, arm/arm/boot/ Image and zImage, so thats a start at least, will have to wait till I get home to see if I can boot to it
I put some instructions on how to build the cifs module here:

I think it will be easier to find it instead of put it in this thread. Hope you are ok with it SNESFAN :)
thanks I'll be sure to pick one up when I get the cash
They run really well using the emulator neo.emu. Neodroid is also a good emulator.
the "800M" firmware might not be compatible with your hardware if it's freezing up a lot. Most of us have gotten lucky, but it's really obvious not all chips are created equal unfortunately. Thanks mate its working fine now, bit gutted though was hoping to ramp it up to 1000mhz :'(
try the older 600mhz one, like abhoriel reccomends.. Be aware the default language is Chinese, you'll have to go into settings and change it to your native language.

Yeah its unfortunate. Different chips overclock different amounts. I think this is why JXD originally underclocked to 600MHz. If you want more performance, you could try flashing 700 or 750MHz kernels. For most purposes though, 600MHz works pretty well.
Not to sure if i can, got it of ebay, think i might be stuck with it.
If you console crashes even with the stock 600 mhz firm, then it's probably defective. I would try a return from the shop where you have bought it.
when compiling the kernel, the mali driver fails to build for me.
don't have the time to look into it further.
anyone else have this problem?
Been playing now for over an hour now with no problems this is with the sound off as my otherhalf is asleep next to me. weird could having the sound on be causing me the problems? ???Not to sure if i can, got it of ebay, think i might be stuck with it.

I can confirm ICS works... it's a beta firm, or not customized yet bu jxd, so no tv out, no jxd launche etc etc... It seems a bit unistable. Better wait for the final version by jxd.

One good thing about ICS is the USB OTG works with usb gameppads out the box, so that would be iteresting to see ;)
Anyway got good news today isharegifts are sending me a new S601.... great stuff ;D
TV OUT doesn't seem to work in ICS, but it's normal, since probably in official firm they will include applicaction.
Put the live wallpaper apk on your SD, from there, go to root explore, find the apk and long press it. Press the option, "move " navigate to the system/app folder. Make sure you change that option at the top of the explorer to r/o and simply hit paste. Long press again. Scroll to permissions. Make sure the permissions say rw-r-r. Change back to r/w and your all set. Reset the JXD s601 and your set.
Problem persists Megacubo. Also, the ICS firm is clearly beta. It works at 600 mhz although all programs indicate 1 ghz. It seems clearly a beta, not recommended at all. Let's hope JXD does it better in final firmware.
Battery lasts more, but because the system is running at 600 mhz only....

Thanks for the asnwers, is a shame that buttons problem is still there, maybe is hardware problem :(
You're right abhoriel, maybe making a kernel from 0 could be solved, but I think it's not easy to do that.
We tested out Skelton's Skelrom V1 and reviewed it on GoB for anyone interested-

By the way, if your device is recognized as an R800i by Google Play, you can now purchase Virtua Tennis Challenge by Sega!
Thanks guys, and by the way, Virtua Tennis runs really great. Very optimized.
... if they only would give it a proper capacitative screen and good analog controls...
Could anyone please try Crono Cross on the PSX emulator ?
Thanks Smida3

Plays well, sound a bit strange though. Be sure to check the spcsync option in audio to get better sound.
JXD and the other companies that make these things don't do it to be on the cutting edge of technology, they do it to be a cheap alternative to something that is more popular (and more expensive). If they matched the Vita accessory for accessory then their stuff would be just as expensive (or close to it) and wouldn't sell very well.
From my experience over the years, we are lucky they are supporting Android, we could still be stuck with that "GameOS" or whatever it is called that is closed source and only the company that made the handheld can release games for it (usually a handful of emulators and they move to another design forgetting the older one).
It looks like JXD is trying to go after the sub $100 "impulse" market with the S5110 ($99.99), the V5200 ($88.99) and the S601 ($82.99) while Yinlips is targeting the $100 to $200 market with their handhelds (JXD has one or two units in this price range too, the S7100B 7" unit for instance is $149.99 or so).
What we need to do is start contacting Android developers and getting them to at least optimize their games for the Xperia Play (which the S601 is about 95% compatible and I am sure the S5110 is too since it is quite similar in hardware to the S601). If we had any kind of sales numbers for these units then we could use those as bargaining tools with devs. It is much easier to contact a dev and say there are 50,000 of these things in gamers hands, would you check into them and possibly optimize your game for the graphics chip or system?

S601 can be overclocked, wheres the S5110 cant (currently). The S601 is cheaper too :)
I'm not going to bother upgrading my S601 until a console comes out similar to the S5110 but with proper analog controls and overclocking :) OTG is nice, capacitative, high res screen is nice too.
also, I think that the usefulness of a portable console with an external controller plugged into it is questionable :P
Thanks
the JXD has better support here too so now
I do not think I made a bad decision.

I don't really think fragmentation with Android consoles will harm anything, after all Android is fragmented anyway so it's kind of inevitable! The steady improvement of technology that constantly filters down to our price point is really encouraging IMO, it's amazing what we get for our money nowadays and it makes sense to get the most capable keenly priced device available at the time of purchase.
In any case, they all run similar Android roms and we are all using pretty much the same emulators so there's a good level of cohesion over lots of different consoles which can only be a good thing IMO.
It doesn't surprise me that these consoles are still almost unknown outside these forums and emulation circles as they aren't advertised to the mainstream public. However I do think they are in a prime position to get MUCH more popular, especially with such a well known and universal OS onboard.
I guess at the moment most people would rather play naff novelty touch games rather than the hundreds of amazing games at our disposal, or rather they don't even know just how many classics they are missing out on... Most people won't go digging to find their entertainment, they'd rather it was served up to them without having to put any effort in.
Well, I tried a OTG cable and didn't work for me, that's why I assume that is doesn't have OTG, but maybe is my cable, I don't know.

Got my JXD S601 back today and flashed it with skeltons rom straight away lol and it runs @ 1Ghz so I'm glad I broke the last one pmsl...

Yo have won with the change! LOL
Hmm, Jxd S601 or Yinlips G18A? I just can't decide! Might someone enlighten me? Thanks! :)
Glad it's working for you. I had the same problem with the cable that came with mine. ???
Dungeon Hunter 3 works on the S601 but you need to side load it... and its free so that's cool for those interested 8)AWESOME !
I've been reading over these threads and looking at links for an hour. I don't feel like being one of those morons who starts a new thread, so since you've been talking about these devices in such a long thread here...
...Here are my needs:
I am willing to spend up to/around $100, a bit more if it is worth it. No more then 120-130-ish.
Minimum Requirements: Must be useful for GEN/SNES emulation. Must be useable as an MP3 player. I have a two-hour commute to/from work, and a loooooooooot of time to listen to audiobooks. I also don't want to ever have to open the damn thing up. I don't mind installing programs/etc, but I'm not fiddling with the insides. Period.
Ideal:
PSX emulator (yeah, right!), No Touchscreen (Touchscreen seems to universally suck and break easily, as far as I can tell). Decent battery life considering my commute (so a screen that shuts down when I'm not touching things would probably really help there!)
Nice but not on the list of requirements:
Play movies.
Reccomendations?

ok so im new at this but been learning but can someone please give me detailed directions on how to install playstation 1 roms and the emulator for the jxd-s601.
Hello, so I bought JXD s601, rooted it and overclocked up to 900mhz. I installed setCpu, choose min 920(or something like that) and max 920. But it always shows about 200mhz. I tried some psx games but it's very laggy and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
I bought it from http://dx.com/?Utm_rid=19886963&Utm_source=affiliate (http://dx.com/?Utm_rid=19886963&Utm_source=affiliate).And shipping time? My last order @DealExtreme took almost 2 months to arrive
And yeah, I'm satisfied with them.
2 weeks, so kinda fast.In Gameboid settings point to bios file. Can't say for DroidEmu, I never used it
///
I installed gameboid, it asks me gba bios file, when I press on it program asks me it again and I can't play any GBA games,. I tried to redownload bios file, but it's same.
Same with DroidEmu. What can be wrong?
I've been trying to get gamekeyboard to work for hours... it doesnt seem to remap my hardware keys correctly (I've remapped X, circle, triangle etc to Gamepad A, Gamepad B, Gamepad Y, etc), but when I press the buttons, gamekeyboard simply does not register them..

Check the switch on the bottom of the unit. There is a slider key that needs to be slid towards the power button, otherwise the physical keys won't be recognized by the system (this is for times that you may not want physical buttons to work like when the system is in your pocket).
I was thinking exactly the same when i saw that DINOelaine posting links towards DINODIRECT.
Anyway, i bought mine from their shop (I bought it 1 day before DX got it) and there was nothing wrong.
The delivery time is quite long (expect more than 3 weeks) but i got a tracking number even if i choose the cheaper cost for delivery (it's seems to be mandatory to France). I payed something like 63 € (using coupons) but i also got some little gadgets with my JXD.
I'm really happy with my purchase. The JXD run with an OC kernel (stable at 850 Mhz) and is really great for PSX, Nec Pc engine with CD sound...
I'm currently working on a nice windows phone 7 theme wich looks great !
To come back to the subject, the price for the JXD is quite good, i tried to use some coupons and i found that you can save 2,90€ by using TOPSAVE.
It's 52,08 € for the JXD wich is quite good i think if you don't mind waiting for really long time.
I know this question might be answered already in this huge topic, but it's impossible for me to retrieve the answer so I ask it anyway:
-FPSe crashes everytime I launch it, as is the case with PCEmulator. Is there something i have to tweak in order to get it started (i use skelrom V1)
Another question:
-I have google market installed but it also crashes everytime i launch it. I already tried to install google play through downloading the apk, but when i try to install it, it mentions that "app not installed". Is there something i have to do in order to install it properly?
Nice update there, Skelton. Interested in doing an interview for an upcoming project I have in the works (it is GoB related)?
What I would love to do is this, get the major players from here that were instrumental in getting the indie dev going on the S601 and have a round robin discussion, either on Skype, a message board (where everyone can respond as time allows) or through e-mail.
I think the work that has gone into what has been done is something that deserves being promoted (there is a strong community of homebrew devs that may adopt the S601 if they knew more about it which could mean, more good games).
Just a thought.
I decided to give a second chance kainy. I just buy it and this time it works fine (no idea because I could never verify the license in the previous version), the application is good ...
For example the nullDC emulator operates luxury, play marvel vs. capcom 2, sonic adventure 1 and 2, crazy taxy, soul calibur, soul reaver, etc, etc. from JXD S601 lying in bed is priceless.
But experience is irregular, as for example the dolphin emulator without sound and I will slow (I would say in the JXD S601 I get 30FPS, while my equip is going to 60FPS).
I have to test the pcsx2, but just finished the battery :P .
Overall I feel very good idea of the application, but the author needs to work a little harder on it.
:o
pcsx2 works on JXD S601 ? Even without a sound that is great !
say , does FFX work ? ;D

I'm working on fixing the buttom ghosting at the moment, if people are interested.
I know about the combinations which result in start (four combinations) and select (four combination) presses
are there any other ghost combinations that people have encountered?
If everything goes to plan, i should be able to release a fixed kernel soon
let me know if there are other kernel issues people want addressed.
EDIT: I've looked at the matrix map and have found that there are lots of ghost combinations. the ones involving start are the most obvious and annoying in most circumstances though, as they often cause a menu to pop up.

No, it's hardware issue. Eg. if you press A, B and R system should register also L pressed although you didn't touch it. Only solution- add diodes (Shottky's diodes- lowest voltage drop) to each button so button triggers only it's own lines.I'm working on fixing the buttom ghosting at the moment, if people are interested.

exactly, the ghosting cant be solved perfectly but there are a number of solutions
1) blocking
this means ignoring keypresses that will cause ghosting. i dont really like this, because it means that with certain combinations, the pressing of a 3rd button will be completely ignored
2)
filtering out the most problematic and annoying ghosts. I was thinking of filtered the combinations that result in start and select being pressed. other combinations do occur, but are generally less problematic
anyway, i dont have a lot of free time at the moment but i'll look further into it before i make any fixes
:P
I am super happy with my s601 player.
I have gba, snes, nes, etc emulators. I have kainy to play my computer games. I have onlive to play newer games. I have netflix, hulu for my movies fix. I have ebooks I can read on it. I convert them from the pdf files. It does my podcasts i listen to for work. It does email, inet. I found twitch.tv app for it also. :) The best thing jxd could have done was do android for it.
Once they get the jxd s5110 to at least 800 mhz I will convert to that one for the wireless remote and hdmi support. :)
I love my s601 player.
The S5110 is running at a true 1 gig speed, isn't it? Not the quasi 1 gig that JXD pulled with the S601 (600 CPU/400 Mali Chip).

I am rally interested in the idea of this app so if it does not work is there another app that does the similar but works on JXD S601 ?

At first glance, Google Play says that Dungeon Mapp is not compatible with either the stock S601 or Skelrom Custom ROM. Will see if I can find the lite APK somewhere else and install it.

I need a device with a bigger screen than the Dingoo for playing old Nintendo roms. Android game-emulators are very good, does any one have experience in playing these games with a normal 7" tablet with capacitive screen? Can you really play well with the virtual buttons? They don't sell the JXD here in Holland but I can buy a tablet here and bring it back when it's broke. Sending it up and down to China costs almost as much as its original price.

I've got two tablets, a Dropad and a Nook, both about seven inches and both have been great for most emulation. GBA, NES and any other 2-4 button systems work pretty well, NES has no lag, GBA minor. N64 runs great but it gets tricky with multiple virtual buttons. I'd say you can definitely do it, but it might be annoying if you want any system with a more complex control scheme.
what about the BiTT ?Googled BiTT and found one at Intertoys. So I can buy stuff like this at my local shopping centre. Twice the price of the S601 but better specs: 7" capacitive screen, 1.2 GHz. I might go for that.
That's why I like amazon. That's where I ordered mine. Got the first one with a faulty screen, sent it back for free (courier picked it up from me) and got the replacement two days later.i'm sure Amazon doesn't do that in The Netherlands.
My experiences with Chinese sellers (DX, Ebay, PandaWill) were quite good up to now. If it's small, electronic and I don't need it urgent, then I always get it in China. Got a Dingoo, another PSP shaped emulator console and a lot of 1-5 dollar stuff in the last year. One time I didn't receive an item after 5 weeks and they sent a new one. One time I got a refund for an item that didn't work. My S601 is the worst case scenario, it was not DOA but it worked first and then stopped working after 3 weeks. No chance they will give a refund or send a new one without you having to send them the broken item first. But the costs appear to be not that bad. I can send it in a bubble envelope for only 8 USD and they will send it back for free. Of course it won't be back in 2 days, I guess more like 2 months. That's why I like amazon. Man just stop scaring the s*** out of me .
Mine JXD S601 should arrive today and I am scared as hell because you keep posting how it broke after 3 weeks .
Just stop it please. You got a defective item that sort of thing happen so just contact the e-shop and solve it with them.
It is just ...Sorry to have upset you. If you already bought it these are things you don't want to know. But if you didn't buy it yet it is interesting to know what the chances are that it will break. Otherwise you just have to answer yourself one question. Do you feel lucky? It wasn't all that bad, I had my three weeks of fun with it and in two months time it will continue. Just don't buy anything in China that you really can't miss for some time, like a pacemaker.
I just see myself in jos's place . The only thing I would recommend to him is : chat with the e-shop and request a refound.
Sorry if i overreacted somehow . . . I am under a big preassure now . Imagine that you are waiting 2 months for your JXD S601 and now it will finally come and the only thing you read about your device for the past 2 months is that the device you are going to recieve is going to break after 100h of playing .
It messes with my thoughts .

JXDed, What problem do you find installing a custom rom? Why can not install?
Check if you have this line in your build.prop.
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=1
If you have delete or modify it by using: ro.kernel.android.checkjni=0

I'll try checking my build.prop in a moment, see if that can help at all.
Basically, no matter who's custom rom I install, I ended up with non-stop FCing of acore processes. I thought it might have been a problem of not doing a full wipe, but I tried several different methods, none successful, and ultimately gave up in favor of having a working, stable (but not ideal) device. I might give it another shot soon, because I'm nearly done with Minish Cap (owned it for nearly a year, finally playing it in rom form) and then I'll feel more free for flashing.
On a sidenote, is there any chance the next incarnation of Skelrom will be 4.0 based, or are we still holding our collective breaths for the "official" 4.0 release from JXD?

Could you please discribe me HOW to run it ? I would make a video on how to do it for everyone and I could make a video of it running on JXD S601.
Thanks

Maybe these games need a better resolution screen? Not sure.
You can try Chainfire 3d, and try to use another plugin. You can find the plugins for chainfire in XDA. Just copy to the sdcard, and select another video plugin for a game that doesn't work. Maybe can help.
Maybe try using a different chainfire plugin
Do you have any ideas what plugin could work , becauce I am too frightened to just download something on the internet and hope it will not brick my JXD S601Sorry, I didn't use Chainfire yet
EDIT : I am not sure if I am using the Chainfire properly . ??? Because now I tried GTA 3 (blacks as usual)Here you go (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433946)
Could anyone just give me a brief tutorial on how to use the chainfire ?
Yeah ! Your tutorial WORKS !Glad I could help (but it's not mine tutorial ;) )
Thanks a lot man ! I am going to try more games soon.
I have an annoying problem with my jxd. The battery drains overnight. When it is fully charged, it stays standbye the whole day without problem but the next morning the battery is empty. The back is also warm. So I guess some program is using a lot of resources during the night. Is there an app to log the battery usage? Or did anyone had similar problems. The overall battery life is normal though.Cpu Spy (free) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bvalosek.cpuspy) -you can check how much cpu time was spent for each clock frequency
CPU spy does not work with the jxd, it states that the kernel is imcompatible with it.I'll check Better Battery Stats on s601 (already bought)
I don't want to pay for an app from which I'm not sure it will solve my problem.
I will try the go plugin, never heard from it but it will be usefull anyhow
I recommend the Go pluging already in the Skelrom , wich kills all apps and cleans your RAM .

I cannot find go plugin, only go store; go themes;go widgets;go keyboard and go launcher. Which one do you mean (i have skelrom V1.5
...Which button or combination I need to press to confirm?Look at your TV screen and try to chose the same position on the touch screen of S601, chose "yes", then when you are in tv mode press "exit" button. Then when you want turn off tv mode, run again TV app and chose "LCD screen" button.
in case anyone is looking for it, here's the android kernel source for both gingerbread and ICS for the S601

Skelton, I know you're retired from the s601, but is there any chance you might build us a little something? Pretty please?
Oh my. They included what looks to be their entire build tree... investigating the mali bits ATM... just wondering if there's enough there to build a complete mali driver, which would be handy for any SoC with mali graphics...
Ok, bad news, my s601 is defintely dying. Graphics are completely corrupted (even in recovery menu). No matter the cpu speed I use. I¡ve onnected to TV with same result, so probably it's gpu problem. Well, i'm starting to be tired of quality in these devices, two JXD devices dead in no more than a month. Too bad luck. Probably won't spend any money in a future device except something really interesting comes out. The shame is that my device dead just when kernel sources are released.

(Never really looked at video drivers before, so I suppose I ought to go compare what nouveau and the radeon OSS driver have in the tree... i.e. mali stuff might just be the interfaces to their proprietary blob... still handy maybe...)

It's the same thing as happened to MK802
You are right, lemonlimer. Maybe it's a temperature problem or bad components. By the way, I'm thinking that JXD don't develop their own consoles, at least not all of them:
http://www.kocode.com/cpin_dange.asp?id=214
This console is a perfect clon of s5110, even they use the same firmwar except for the logos, that are from this company. Curious.

Are there any other rebranders that anyone knows of for the s601? I wonder if there is alternate firmwares we could be trying
Yeah. Unfortunately I concur at this point(spent more time poking through what was there). No actual mali driver, just the hooks for the kernel...Oh my. The latest news for the JXD S5110 Clone. It seems like that they used the "wrong" information to introduce their clone products. It is not capactive screen but 3 points touch screen. They just remove JXD's logo and use theirs" KO". At the same time, their price is higher than JXD S5110. I do not think you guys need to consider about it in this case.
It is not capactive screen but 3 points touch screen.AFAIK resistive touchscreen controllers can handle 2 touch points max (pinch zoom, not a "true" dual touch) so this info most likely also not true.

Unless I'm wrong of course (or it has a capacitive touchscreen)
My JXD S601 that died after 3 weeks and sent for repair to China just got back repaired. It works fine now. It took 5 weeks which is not bad. They send an email after 2 weeks that they received it and would send it to the factory and two weeks later that they would send it back. Costs for me were only EUR 6 (USD 7) for the shipping to China in a small bubble enveloppe. So you can get decent service when you buy in China, at least at Pandawill.
Just tried the new JXD Ver 2.1 firmware on my favorite Android Game Player----the JXDS601. Here's what I found:
1) It is fully rooted
2) It is Android ver 2.3.4
3) It has GameHub and a bunch of emulators
4) It had the Key Mapping to Help app
The bad news is I removed GameHub with Titanium Backup and the JXDS601 refused to boot up after that.
I tried this several times and the result was always the same.
I backed up the new app Key Mapping to Help with Titanium Backup and I will attempt to restore to my 2nd
JXDS601 which has the excellent SkelRom
I'm so very disappointed in the build quality of these. I truly wanted the S601 to be awesome, it's the reason I put so much effort into it initially. I was even about to invest some money into them and resell them. That was my goal. I figured we could work past these QC issues. But the truth is, the PCB isn't holding out to any real level of stress. Both thermal and impact. Truly a shame as it's a quite powerful device.
Mine lives on my desk, I only use it when I'm coding and with that it's holding out. Although I'm starting to notice random data corruptions nand/microsd. But the problem is, with normal use, these just aren't cutting it in the long run.
I'm sad to say this, but I think I'm going to retire my work on this as well. Not that it isn't worth the effort, but because even if I can push out something that adds to the customer base, people won't be able to enjoy anything made specifically for this for very long. I'm not going to start reselling these as I would loose my ass in RMA's.
as this seems to be the runt of the litter when it comes to these Chinese handhelds, it shouldn't come to any surprise, but to those out there on the fence on these. Consider this one out. =(
Installed on my S601, works very well, I see a huge performance increase on benchmark over the old JXD 800mhz firmware and less graphical glitch on newer app (maybe because the mali driver has been updated?).
New "alternative" version of Skelrom, based on Android 4.0.3. Includes AndroidGameKey feature.

ensure that any key is pressed (broken buttons, etc) when you powering up.
if the problem persist, then copy ALL files (not only update.zip) from the update pack to the sd root.
shutdown completely your device
press and hold menu key, and turn on device
your device is not bricked, because you can see the "upgrading..." message.
note: after update, the first time boot always take long time, so please wait until system boots completely.
greetings!
I think I might sell my S601 any takers its installed with ICS skelton alternative fully boxed mint 8)
hi,
I am very pleased with the newest skelrom alternative mod, yet I would like to have my old button-lay-out back as there is no home button in the new one. Is this possible (without causing any other unpleased side-effects) and how should i do so?
Really impressed with this rom for psx emulation, I'm running the new version of FPse 0.11.29 and it runs fantastic on the Skeltrom ICS alternitive IMO..
Thanks Skelton ;)

Hi Skelton, I'm new here but I've always followed you and I'm grateful for your work! ^_^
I would have some questions for you... I would like to use the Game Emulator (GMU) in my JXD s601, the emulator which is located in the JXD s5300... It's possible? Could you help me to pass the emulator files? I'm curious to test this emulator on my JXD s601! One emulator for all! Very very thanks! Best regards! ^_^
PS: Sorry for my english... I'm italian... :)))
If so, I guess I should redo the upgrade, if not what could be the matter?
you can try factory resetting, doesn't sound like normal behavior. Do you have anything weird running like a task killer, alternate home launcher, custom lock screen app?
Also you don't have setcpu or anything installed either do you? Setting your cpu below the normal "minimum freq" will cause the device to be non-responsive to wakeup stuff.
try factory resetting and just install the normal emulators/games and see if you can pinpoint more specifically what you are doing that is causing the freeze if it happens agian.how is the battery lif on standby? is it even worth leaving it in that state?stanby for me is ~5% per 12 hours with the power save wifi sleep policy in the build.prop (non-stock) also make sure you set that in wifi settings menu or just turn off wifi when not using it.
and some other questions:
how do the shoulder buttons feel like when pressed? are they like the letcool shoulders? or like the gba ones? im really curious since im willing to mod my jxd to my gusto button-wise as soon as i can afford one.
EDIT: right now sitting at 80% battery and have been away from charger for 2 days 17 hours.... wifi has been using 49% of the total consumption
actual runtime is about 4-5 hours give or take depending on what you are doing.
[ AND NOW ]
The item, item number E1212040918310122, jxd s18, from everbuying.com, which I bought in december 012, is freezing every 5 minutes and has to be recharged every hour :( !!!!!!!!!!!!!
A google search brought me here when i googled 'jxd s18 freeze'
i sent a complaint and awaiting reply from them and see what they will say cos I still havent even used it for a month now !
