That was what I was wondering. A GPU by itself isn't very useful. Even PlaySID has to emulate both the SID chip and the 6510 CPU to get awesome chiptunes.

Chiptunes are awesome. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good Commodore 64 tracker until that era was ending.

Not true. Different GPUs have different features supported in hardware. (ie: one vendor's GPU may have certain shaders supported by their hardware, while another vendor's GPU may not support those shaders at all.) As a result, a game that requires those shaders may work on one gfx card, and not another.

A GPU emulation would in theory provide functionality on a GPU that does not have built-in support.

I remember running a 3dfx emulator/wrapper on the ati card in my old pc, to try and play that old n64 emulator.

Yes I remember doing the same
I had a Cyrix 133mhz CPU 96mb ram and a 4mb voodoo 3dfx card lol

Lol! Not really, no. :)

It's actually fairly similar to Chainfire 3D (which doesn't work properly on later Android versions). Give this Chainfire 3D description a read through and you can get an idea of the intent:

I remember "CPU software accelerator" for 486 machines that, in fact, was a virus.

it makes a little difference, can lower the resolution in games, soul calibur I set to smooth out the character model edges and it works without slow down, some games crawl with some of the settings but there is a small noticeable difference.

I got Sonic Allstars Racing Transformed to work with this app with 4xMSAA. I also run other games with forces 4xMSAA
