Z7800 or Z7850
« on: March 16, 2017, 11:26:20 am »
I'm considering buying a GPD Win at Micomputer site. Z7850 is 40? more expensive than Z7800 model. Is it worth the difference? I mean, Z7850 should be slightly faster, but there is any other benefit? Is the new model more reliable? Are the controls better?

I also want to ask if someone has tried to connect GPD Win to TV and play with bluetooth controllers. How is the experience playing at 720p?

This is Fucking shameful, they charge for something that costs the same price to them.

In a shop like Belchine or Dragonbox you pay the same price.

Dragonbox charges 16? extra for the new model. 435? + 28,32? shipping for the new model. 378? shipping included in micompuTer...  85? of difference is HUGE

But that is not the point of my initial question ;-)

My fault for dragonbox, but at least Belchine doesn't as far as I know. I don't think you'll notice anything apart more heat, and less battery life.

As far as I know x8750 are the same than later batches from z8700. All include some improvements in controls (new membrane for dpads and buttons mainly). So basically difference is just the CPU, which I don't think make much difference.

Yeah, it depends on the quantities you buy from GPD, the price difference can vary by 30 USD.
And as we just bought a batch of Rev. 1 when Rev. 2 was announced, we paid more for those.

Also, preorder of batch 1 was cheaper for shops as well, so the price difference can be up to 60USD to what shops paid for Rev.1 and Rev.2

It doesn't always cost the same.
I'm evil.

Is the z8750's performance significantly better? Is it worth selling my 2nd gen z8700 and buying the z8750?

Not significantly. In fact you'd have a hard time telling them apart from just playing on it. We are talking about 3-5 fps difference in ideal conditions, and sometimes the 8750 would even get hotter and have shorter battery life (but maybe that was only the initial batch and has been fixed since). Anyhow, the $40 extra is just not justified in performance.

This guy did a benchmark between the  8700 and 8750 GPD WINs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIq_G5kCvag

He posts the benchmarks in the description. Seems to be a 5% difference in favour of the 8750.  But thats somehting we have been saying since day 1. So nothing new really. But good to have the benchmarks

Im looking to get the 8750, mostly because of the hardware upgrades like better buttons, and some software, hardware bugs that were worked out. Im hearing less issues and returns with the 8750. last thing I want is to return my precious.

I had recently received the mid-march batch of the Win (8750) and you'd find that I've come crying on many threads on this forum with all kinds of problems with my device.

Through this process, though, I seem to have also got a decent idea for the wider range of problems that the different iterations of the device have had.

While there have been issues with mine which have really put me off, I understand that these might not be deal breakers for others-- having to shut down after every use (because of the high-cpu usage bug in hibernate/sleep), not being able to charge the device when turned off (can be easily resolved after you install the older, unlocked BIOS), my 128 gb SD having I/O issues (which I worked around by using a 64 gb card and a sandisk 64 gb ultrafit drive) and so on...

These are major annoyances tbh, but if you can live with these and are okay with some tinkering, I'd recommend the newer batch of devices-- never had issues with graphics driver, wifi works as it should, no keyboard/ touchscreen/ game-controller issues and most games that I've thrown at it have worked well.
