Atari 5200 emulation...
« on: March 30, 2016, 03:07:29 pm »
Hello there, Im looking to get 5200 games to work, but seems a little difficult :-*

I heard Atari800 is a good emulator for Atari 8 bit computers and 5200 system. I tried:

Colleen (Atari800 official port on Google Play)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=name.nick.jubanka.colleen&hl=es

Droid800 7.5

https://code.google.com/archive/p/droid800/downloads

Atari800 SDL 3.1.0

https://sourceforge.net/projects/atari800/files/atari800/

I couldnīt get 5200 games to run in any of them, tried different 5200.rom bios... I read somewhere that Atari800 port for Android doesnīt have 5200 emulation implemented, but I donīt know if this is true :-*

Any way to play 5200 games on our GPD XD? :)

Colleen doesn't support 5200 roms, try this one (I haven't tried it myself, but it should work):

Not saying it is easy, but I haven't really found a better way to play 5200 games on Android...

I setup RetroArch with the MAME core to run 5200 games, so far so good:

Use the  zipped a5200 setup from this thread:
http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/14631-atari-5200-with-retroarch-mame-core/

and watch the video carefully on how to set up and set the directory settings:

Make sure to save your config in RetroArch or it will lose your MAME settings.

Also of note, RetroArch has the 7800 core already setup(once d/l), just load the game you want.

Im using Colleen to play atari 800 games... but HOW can I press start  to start a game? Fire works,  the d pad works.. but there's no way to press start as some games require. Anyone else using colleen?
I figured it out: press the top right of the screen and a menubar pops up.

Hi fleshx ,

I saw that you are running Atari 7800 and 5200 systems in Retroarch. How do you do that?

I'm running Apple II+ using Retroarch in my GPD XD but it's quite painful to get there. First, I have to load an arcade game, then open up the OSD menu and choose "Select new Machine" option to go to the system list. And then roll the list all the way to reach the Apple II+ driver to finally load and run a game.

How are you loading/running your Atari 7800 games using Retroarch? Do you know a better or easier way to do it?

I'm not an expert in Atari emulation but yout there is an Atari 7800 core (ProSystem) available in Retroarch. You can download it using Online updater > Core updater from main menu.

Sorry but I'm only interested in the MAME core to run these systems.
