Isn't that easily fixed with underclocking the emu? Works for me man.

Didn't work at all. The emulator runs to slow and can't be used anymore to play with video out on TV. We fixed this issue with adding a perfect Gameboy/Gameboy Color SDL emulator to the custom firmware.

Even the K1 GBA hardware clones are not 100% compatible. If you want 100% GBA compatibility, then you need to get a GBA. However, if you want an all-in-one device and are OK with just "rock solid" GBA compatibility, then better start saving up for the Pandora 2 ;).

I will reserve judgment on Zero's credentials when I try my own favorite games on it, games where you know exactly what to look for at which exact locations to gauge its emulation prowess.

2013 at the earliest, I'm guessing 2014 or possibly even 2015

they're suggesting $700-800 price

i think one of the reasons why i also started this post was in hopes to have the good gba emulation out of the box. meaning i dont want to have to do 15 things to get a good gba emulator on my system. I want the community to be big but i hope this device is as polished as ever and not thrown onto the market for us to make it awesome..... like skyrim + mods, lol.

I'm sure it will take literally 2-5 minutes (depending on how many roms you're tossing on it) to be able to play gba from the time you open the gcw box. Plug it in, copy emu and roms, unplug and turn on. Not much hassle really. Theming and more emus/roms is a choice, not a requirement.

Skip the pandora/pandora2... Unless you feel like paying out your ass for the priviledge of waiting 3-5 years. 3-5 years you could have spent loving the crap out of a gcw ;)

LOL I don't want this to turn into a Pandora bashing thread, but seriously... there's no silver bullet: good luck finding one device that can emulate everything accurately. The Zero has a lot of potential; now it all depends on the developers and how much effort they put into optimizing their emulators for the new CPU/GPU inside this thing.

Have you considered getting an Android device? It's pretty exciting times for Android gaming with the Archos GamePad coming out and the rapid (and slightly improving) releases from JXD and Yinlips. I can tell you from personal experience that the .emu series of emulators from Robert Broglia (http://www.explusalpha.com/) are very high quality and obviously a labor of love. The only minor downside to Android gaming is that you can hear a slight lag in sound, but I'm sure that will be fixed eventually. The great thing about Android is that it's such a huge market most emulators are updated very frequently relative to the more niche players like the Dingoo.

UPDATE: There are no details on Robert's site, but he also has an emulator for GBA: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.explusalpha.GbaEmu

It's based on VBA-M, and I would argue that it's better than GBAoid. GBA.emu is not free, but you get what you pay for.

I have a galaxy tab 7 inch the first model, and gba works pretty damn good. I play metal slug advanced, pokemon, advanced wars with no noticeable lag. I would say with the untrained inexperienced eye that emulation is 99% even 100%.

For android you should only go with the .emu emulators.

gba.emu never ran into a game that didnt work at great speeds.
gbc.emu supports original gbc pallets for gb and custom pallets.

im just sick of trying to put a 7 inch tab in my pocket. Thats why I came here for a core open source gaming device, with no android, no battery drains, buttons and i can fit it into my pocket with out feeling guilty of accidentally scratching the screen of an expensive device.

There are specific titles on GBA that even in the very good Wiz/Caanoo port of GPSP slow down and some break even the music. But most of the stuff already where smooth enough on the early consoles. I only bet that GCW gives quite a push to even those titles (as I witness from some vids, also the same with SNES emulation of the most intensive stuff). In terms of emulation improvement over Caanoo (with most of which I was already content though), GCW is the cheapest good solution to improve emulation where it lacks I believe (the other alternative is the over expensive Pandora, and then some recent chinesh android consoles which I don't trust).

its GCW ZERO vs dingoo a380 right now for me. (btw I have a good 7 inch tablet playing gba perfect, but i want a more handheld device with buttons and do not want to buy a bluetooth controller, lol)
I do want all other handhelds and console emulation but GBA needs to be rock solid. ty dingoonity.

ps. I'm new to Dingoonity (long time lurker of these handhelds) and I'm willing to buy right away.

+1 if you can post a side by side comparison of the GCW Zero next to the gba

Ok heres the deal i have a k1 GBA handheld in new condition it has spare battery with it and box with 32gb card full of nice things to play it has screen protectors on and is silver and gba emulation is rock solid i am selling it with the 32gb card for £60 if you are interested let me know we can work something out i think this is what you are looking for as all gba games run at full speed no problems.

K1 would seem best option if thats all you want.

Most games played fine on the Dingoo and Caanoo for me.

I also found the PSP emus decent.

But as with the JXD S601 and maybe all other devices likewise the screen size is not suited to GBA unless you run them scaled to 4:3 as when you stretch to full screen they look iffy on these 16:9 800X480 etc screens.

So i think the GCW could be the perfect device for all 16 bit Arcade and Consoles.
