A little help with DosBox please
« on: April 13, 2013, 07:40:55 am »
Hi unsurprisingly I'm a little stuck with Dosbox

it sees Moonstone but I'm not sure how to execute it or what settings I may need to apply etc.. so far it's the only dos game I've put on it..

BAfelton, thank you so much for kindly offering to help as well

There are different ways.

I'll take Moonstone for example, where Moonstone archive is uncompressed (but uninstalled) in your real HDD c:/dosbox/moonstone directory.

1 - Install it on your PC first then copy it to the zero.

- grab DosBox 0.74 here : http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1 and install it

- launch it

- type :

mount c c:\dosbox

will make the virtual C in your HD c:\dosbox.

- type :

c:
cd moonstone
install

This will install the game on your virtual C where you want. Some games need to be installed first before running, some don't.

It will make a MOON directory in your virtual C.

Launch FileXp or whatever and copy the MOON directory from your PC to the dosbox/disk_c directory on your zero.

Then launch dosbox on your zero, go to the moon directory with MC and launch MS.exe.

Then it should work.

OR

2 - Install everything on your zero

- copy your uncompressed/uninstalled moonstone directory to the dosbox/disk_c directory on your zero.

- on the zero with CM, go to the moonstone directory and by pressing L you'll launch the virtual keyboard

- type

install

and install the game where you want.

You'll have to delete the uninstalled version after.

More : If you need to install .iso games

- copy your .iso in your dosbox directory on your zero

- launch Dosbox and go to C with CM

- type

imgmount d youriso.iso -t iso

The iso will be mounted as a virtual CD with the letter D.

Then go to D: and launch the install program. You'll have to type the imgmount command each type you launch this game or add the line to your dosbox.conf.

This can be done on your PC too, it's a bit longer but I prefer personaly :D

If you need more help tell me ;)

EDIT :

Forgot to add. Some games need virtual mouse to be played :  slide POWER UP + B.

very awesome of you to post that BAFelton, thank you very much, will give it a try, I love this game like crazy for some reason, there are a few others as well, that I love but this one was special to me, was maybe the first full priced Amiga game I ever bought, had the box for ages, just found out it's collectable recently.. but I've moved many times since the Amiga days and long abandoned it, I had a trouble with disk 2/3 and rode out on a little Honda scooter from inner Sydney to their outer Sydney office for a replacement, was an adventure..

Moonstone plays great, on dos the plus side is that you don't have to change disks over and over like the Amiga version, however the AMiga version sounds better for sure.. I just got eaten by the dragon, I'm so outa practice, is it possible to save the game? so you don't have to restart.. from the beginning?

Didn't take the time to do it, but in the 1st version of dosbox you can modify mapper.txt to change the controls.

I downloaded the Dingux version of DosBox 0.74 and moved it to my Zero under boot/local/. When I select the icon in gmenu, it loads and then exits within a second. I can't pause the screen to read the output on the terminal.

Can anyone guide me through this?

You can't run Dingoo A320's software on a GCW.

If anyone else is wondering about DosBox, you need to be just a little patient. I've been using a beta version that Zear is working on. You can see it in action here: http://youtu.be/58q7lCcSx1U. It's several minutes into the show.

Nice podcast Joe... the part about GCW Zero I would say DosBox is about the hardest part of the zero
You did make it sound a lot harder than it is lol,... its basically drag and drop just like using a network drive via FTP but
Its soon to get easier with the MTP support that's no secret ;)  maybe tell people about the fantastic emulation as well
