Liero is an old-school earthworm action game. Pick your five weapons, and unleash your inner fury.

Special thanks to mth for the help with data extraction.

08/10/2012
* Replaced Jamfile with a Makefile
* Digging with left/right + jump
* Removed upscale support
* Missing #include added to text.hpp

Default controls:
In-game:

In order to modify the availability of weapons in game (selectable, bonus, disabled), go to options->weapon options.

To support custom levels, copy them to the following directory (as seen from FTP):
Code: [Select]
/home/.liero/

This game reminds me of when some of us played Hase. Really well done as a port, but unfortunately I wouldn't play it too long because the text and characters are both so small. It really looks like it was made for CGA or VGA.

What happens if I set Player 2 to be a human? ;)

You have a very awkward way of playing against your friend (until we get OTG) :)

It's made for 320x200.

Basically this game is a homebrew version of Worms with a "real time action" (no turn-based action)... thanks for the port! :)

This game is great, I'm already addicted! I can't wait until we can have two players on it.  :)

I don't have a problem with the text or characters, but the map is way too small to be useful for me; I can barely even see the pixel that is supposed to be each worm. Is there a way to enlarge the map, maybe using some of the blank screen space?

Not very plausible, because that's not the game window area anymore. The game runs in 320x200, meaning that the top and bottom 20px tall black bars are not accessible for rendering on. And I wouldn't want to modify the game engine to run on full 320x240, since it would influence the original gameplay with a larger player visibility area.

Maybe it could be scaled to 320x240 to use the full screen. It should be easy now with hardware scaling. I don't know, but maybe it looks better that way...

Vertical blur over all the image does look better, yes.

Fair enough, I understand why that isn't an option. However, I only meant that I would want the map at the bottom larger, not the play area. Maybe it will be more visible once it can be connected over hdmi.

No. It was never possible back in the DOS days either. You could only modify the data files and change properties of the existing weapons. I guess that's still possible here, although you'd need to repack the OPK file for that.

I guess someone must of done that. Because I remember over a dozen weapons.

Here I found a site with the weapons list.
