In the "Quick Start Guide" ("FTP connection" section) there is the solution:
http://wiki.surkow.com/Quick_Start_Guide#FTP_connection

e.g. if you are using Windows 7 OS:

1. Connect your GCW to your PC with the USB cable.
2. In Windows, go to the Control Panel > Device manager.
3. Once there, locate a device with a yellow "!" sign. It will probably be in the Network adapters area.
4. Right-click it, and select "Update Driver".
5. Select "Manual install".
6. Select "Choose from a list of drivers".
6a. Select "Network Adapters" (this step is "missing" in the Quick Start Guide)
7. In the Vendor list, select "Microsoft Corporation".
8. Select "Remote NDIS Compatible Device" and install that driver.
9. It should now successfully connect in your FTP client app.

PS: as regards FBA, it's better use the "official" release... ;)

6a. Select "Network Adapters" (this step is "missing" in the Quick Start Guide)
If others confirm this step is indeed missing (I don't have a Windows computer to check myself), I will add it to the Quick Start Guide.

I would like to note that step 7 doesn't work for me on Windows Xp. I have noticed that others have encountered similar problems too. I had to download the Remote NDIS Compatible Device drivers from here

http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp2x.cgi?0,0,0,0,15,1290

and manually direct windows to search for these drivers in the folder where i put the files, instead of step 6.

I believe these steps are only for Windows 7.
But if you can document the rights steps for Windows XP, that would be very apreciated.

I tried to make a quick installation guide, keep in mind that steps 2-5 are the same as for Windows 7 OS
(i just copied them). Also i don't guarantee that this method will work for every windows xp system, it would be nice if someone else could try it also. Anyway i hope it helps people that are unable to install the drivers required.

Installation guide for Windows XP OS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Download the Remote NDIS Compatible Device drivers from here:
http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp2x.cgi?0,0,0,0,15,1290
and unzip them somewhere.

2. In Windows, go to the Control Panel > Device manager.

3. Once there, locate a device with a yellow "!" sign. It will probably be in the Network adapters area.

4. Right-click it, and select "Update Driver".

5. Select "Manual install".

6. In the next window select "Install from a list or specific location", and then click "Next".

7. Select "Search for the best driver in these locations" and tick "Include this location in the search", the folder should be the one where you put the downloaded drivers.

Windows should install the drivers if it asks for verification choose that you agree to install.

If others confirm this step is indeed missing (I don't have a Windows computer to check myself), I will add it to the Quick Start Guide.

Just some days ago I re-installed Win7 64 bit on my laptop and I can confirm the procedure with "step 6a" ... I think it's the standard procedure (in any case, it would be good to have the validation of other users).

Added it to the wiki, thanks.
