Hard float:  IF it's anything like with ARM based devices it simply means that the code is compiled to use the FPU v. emulating FPU instructions.  e.g. the current raspberry pi preferred raspbian distro is "hardfloat" v. the earlier distros which were compiled for emulation of FPU instructions.

If you google you can find some articles from last spring (IIRC) when people began experimenting with this and their benchmark results.

You don't need a reboot to install the packages. You just need to reload gmenu2x to update the icons (ie. launch some game and exit it back to gmenu2x). I bet eventually this will be improved to update the icons right away.

That being said, I can't for the life of me understand the use of the vibration function. Maybe that's just me because I was never a big fan of the vibration feature in any game... unless of course we get a video showing us how useful it can be  ;) ;)
The game that really "sold" force feedback was Metal Gear Solid. You could tell a lot of work went into programming the vibration to levels that matched the on-screen action, it added much to the immersiveness of the game. Unfortunatly the design philosophy for vibration in most games seems to be "shake the controller a bit whenever the player takes damage".  :(

There was a PS2 game where the vibration function was deemed so important that it required a separate controller. However, this often ended up being used for something unrelated to gaming.  :-[ (Google image search "rez trance vibrator" if you don't know what I'm talking about, but be warned some results may be considered NSFW even with SafeSearch on)
I play games on: Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GBA SP, NDS Phat, NeoGeo Pocket Color, Panasonic 3DO, Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Nomad, Sega CDX w/Power Base Converter, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, PC, EGP1000, Dingoo A330, LetCool N350JP, and (soon) GCW-Zero SE.

-1, Facebook is not needed. There's Dingoonity, there's the OP forums, there's the official GCW site. A FB page would be superfluous at best, at worst it would attract the wrong sort of attention.

personally/selfishly (as I will have 100 units to move) I would like a Facebook page to help promote the system, the more hands the machine finds itself in the more software gets developed and the better it will be for everyone, most people have Facebook these days and most are more likely to browse on that than forums nowdays..

Facebook's lame. Unless you're 13. If you're 13 it's teh awsumist!!!1!!. If you're over 13, you should really only have an account so your mom can send you messages on it.

Please, gcw, keep off facebook. Twitter at MOST (and even that is pretty lame-os-john-stamos really)

Absolutely agree with the anti-Facebook sentiment.  It was created as a social networking site (not that I have any interest in those) but now it seems every product has to have an FB page and we are invited to "like" everything we buy.

Edit:
Gamepad being released at the beginning of November.  Archos got back to me via their Facebook page.
See what I mean?!  What's wrong with using their own website to advertise their products and communicate with their customers?  There's nothing about the Gamepad on archos.com yet...   ::)

Zero's have cleared . . . yippie!!  The wait continues . . .  ;D

As far as Facebook, I havent checked mine in about 3 yrs.  I agree, FB is LAME!!  Also agree, I too got FB to chat with mom!  So now we use the cell phone, cuz she thinks FB is LAME, lol!  But as far as business is concerned, it might be the way to get noticed by a younger crowd.  I really doubt any social media will be used by GCW at this point.  Their own webpage hasnt even gotten much needed updates.  Maybe one day, GCW site can be used as a marketplace to buy units and accessories, and as a place to gather the latest news of their devices.

Ugghhhggh... facebook, you vile whore of Babylon

@MightyJAK

Well said. -er, typed I mean. The last thing we want is the wrong kind of attention. Do we really need to be inundated with posts like:

"Waaahhh! Waaahh! You mean it's too late to get a Special Edition?! I only found out about this like 12 seconds ago! Then screw this, I'm not buying! How am I going to satisfy my tendancy to impulse purchase if I can't get an SE?!?!"

or

"Wow! What a great handheld! You know what would really make it better? Android! I just love android. Next time they ask for our input I'm going to ask them to port android. Did you know android is linux based? I heard this thing uses linux, so maybe it can use android? android android android android android android Android Android Android Android Android Android ANDROID ANDROID ANDROID ANDROID ANDROID ANDROID ANDROID ANDROID ANDROID"

or the ultimate n00b question asked only by those who have done 12 years in a Turkish prison without any sunlight: "So where do I get roms?"

Oh and another thing- what do you mean MGS2 had good vibration effects? They did some really cool stuff to break the fourth wall, like the battle with Psycho Mantis where you put the controller in the second slot. But I distinctly remember rolling my eyes when the chick on the radio told me to place the controller on my shoulder so it could heal my wounds. LAME!

"Oh Snake! Oil up your chest and rub the DualShock controller on your nipples! *static* Haha! I'm actually Liquid Snake in a disguise! *static* Well actually, I'm Chris Hansen, why don't you have a seat Snake? Let's see what you brought in your inventory... cigarettes? You know those are bad for you. Dirty magazines? Yeah I'm sure that's just to distract the guards, blame everyone else, right?"

I'm a flight sim fan and the only times I liked the vibration function was in hyper realistic sims where it warned that you were heading into a stall. Which makes sense because that sort of thing can be hard to judge with just your eyes and such a device does exist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stick_shaker

Lol, look at all you oldies crying about Facebook! XD You'll never be hip with the kids with that attitude. :P

Anyway, Facebook pages are really useful. It's easy to find pics, and have the latest developer info (assuming they update it). There's also a massive audience there, so even if the Facebook page is little more than a link to here or the GCW site it would still be worth it for the marketing alone. Yes, companies can get annoying with their 'Like' campaigns, but that's just because they get money for it and it helps with their market research. You don't need to be that obnoxious if you don't want to.
