I apologize for making you all wait this long. I had to work early this morning, so had to leave Saturday/early Sunday to make the 13hr trip back to Texas. I was hoping to get out of work on time but I work retail and nothing ever goes according to plan. With all that aside:
Here we go, a brief summary:
Friday:
-left Texas at 2am arrived in Missouri about 3:30pm.
-Had to wait for Justin to get out of work so I decided to go kill time at a movie theater. IronMan 3 (snoozefest)!
-After the nap, I was starving, it was about 6:30pm, called Justin and asked if we could meet at a restaurant.
-we discussed current and future GCW plans during dinner. Exciting stuff!!
Dont ask, I wont share! lol
-Friday evening, the developers began wrapping up the final flash image, aka firmware
Saturday
-Morning, woke up at 9ish, and eager to get started.
-Devs want to get paid, so I join Justin as he goes through his payroll process. Payroll is long and painful to watch!! lol The whole process took about 1.5hrs!!
-we started to set up a few linux machines with proper packages, to have them ready for the flash process
-Saturday afternoon, waited for completion of final image . . .
EDIT1:
-We went to lunch
-After lunch, Justin showed me the “proposed” home for GCW Central. He had keys and he let me in to check it out. Cozy and convenient as it is two doors down from his post office/ delivery place.
-Got back and Final Image is ready!! Woohoo!
-Dev team has made the flash process very easy for us to work with!
Great Job Guys!!
-Thad, flash volunteer, arrives and helps us start the process
-We started with the 256mb prototypes to see if they accepted the flash. Fail!
After several attempts we consulted with Devs. Turns out we had the wrong command line! Once the correction made, all is good! Yay!!
On to the 512’s . . .
EDIT2
Let me point out that quality-wise, I love the way the 512's feel. Like Qbert mentioned in his video, there is a noticeable difference between the 256mb protos and the 512mb production units. 512’s feel/look better!
-after each flash, we hardware tested the devices, a few issues came up and probably caused by shipping.
Issues like: faulty/corrupt sd card, stuck analog stick, and missed button presses.
-Justin called Kyong, his American engineer, to take a look at these issues
- Kyong arrives and we hand him a few units so he can fix them. Good news, most issues seem fixable, except the one with the stuck analog, that one will be Yertle’s!! Hahaha! J/K Yertle!
-Thad’s wife calls him and needs him back home. He will be back on Wednesday to continue flashing. Kyong takes the faulty units and will repair them, says he should have them Sunday or Monday at the latest. At this point, I need to start cutting my day short and take a small nap so I could rest for my return journey back home.
-Needless to say, the process is put on pause, but its ready for them to continue.
-after I rest, Justin offers to help me with gas money and gifts me several GCW accessories, including t-shirts, cases, and stickers, and hands me one of my freshly flashed SE’s!
-I put it all in my car and hit the road.
-Overall, It was a good trip. I wish I could’ve stayed longer and done more but unfortunately that was not the case due to my time constraints.
-Now, I will stop dangling the carrot and show you some pictures!!
Plz gimme 15mins . . .
