Future firmware release
« on: March 05, 2015, 07:16:52 am »
Hey everyone. I was curious as to when/if there are plans for a future firmware release? If there is, does anyone have an ETA on its release?

Thanks.

Thanks again. Also, I originally offered the community an idea for placing bluetooth capability on the next firmware release for the GCW Zero... for music within a car stereo for instance. Surkow responded a few weeks ago & stated that it IS a possibility, etc.

Let me know what you all think...

See ya!

And I already answered you about it... Bluetooh requires USB host and our current USB host driver still toasts devices. So we won't have Bluetooth until somebody can fix that.

Out of curiosity, what devices does it toast? The console or the device attached to it?

Forgive my ignorance, but does this mean we can't use the usb for anything?  Like no external controllers?

Nothing that requires the unit to behave like a USB host will work (peripherals like a mouse, keyboard, controller, joystick etc). It's simply not enabled

I could have sworn I've seen youtube videos of people using external controls...?

Sure, it does work. It simply has been disabled until it no longer toasts devices.

Can you add this modules for python in new firmware?

https://docs.python.org/2/library/configparser.html
http://pythondialog.sourceforge.net/

The ConfigParser module is part of the standard library and therefore already available in the current firmware.

pythondialog might be a candidate for future inclusion, but in general we like to see applications that use a library before we consider it for inclusion in the rootfs. This avoids the rootfs size from growing too much and keeps maintenance manageable. For now, you can include either the Python sources for the module (.py) or the object files (.pyc/.pyo) in your application directory/OPK.
