[Res Fixed] OD1X-Rebirth: Descent I for OpenDingux
« on: February 02, 2012, 02:55:49 am »
This is a port of the Descent game for the Dingux, Based on the v0.57 release of the source port project "D1X-Rebirth".

->Steps to install:
Extract all these files in a folder inside the memory card. (I recommend creating a folder in /local/bin named d1x-rebirth, and then copy all the files into /local/bin/d1x-rebirth/s)
Add the .HOG and .PIG file from the original game into the Data folder.
Add a Link into your G2X Menu pointing to d1x-launcher.dge
Create your Pilot and configure the controllers. (I recommend the scheme seen in 'screenshot000.png', but you might use your own)
Play it until you get finger blisters.

->Whats changed from the original?
Menus optimized to use the Dingoo's controllers.
Added keycombos to allow for better controller usage.
Changed key names.
Improved "pause menu" in-game. (transformed the old "QUIT GAME" to a full-fledged, useful menu, access it by hitting SELECT+START)
Added Screen Scaling.
Added Save Autonaming.
Added 320x240/320x200 modes.

->Whats NOT present?
No in-game Music.

->Known Issues.
Small FPS drops inside the "energy tunnels" due to lots of sprites.

::TODO::
Play A LOT of Descent!

A big thanks to Zear for some bits of Code and other bits of Wisdom!

Thanks!! Hey friend, can you fix the controls in the Wolfenstein and Rise of the triad ports for dingux? There are no button or button combination to change weapons. Thanks for this Descent!!

To enable stretching, reach over the options menu, go to Screen Resolution and either choose 320x240 or enable Stretch. If you use 320x240, you wont have the cockpit. It's a trade-off for the higher resolutions.

You're probably doing something wrong, there are only two resolutions, 320x240 and 320x200, either way the resolution would allow you to see the right checkbox.

Go to: Options...->Screen Resolution...->Stretch to 320x240 (It's the LAST options.)

Awwwww, I know what happend to the game that made it act like that for you.
It's simple, I've set the game to fall back to 320x240, from the default 640x480 to 320x240, but do to the fact that I'm using a dual-surface approach, it's impossible to see the screen, so the game must be drawing way too much.

Fixing is easy for those who already got the game up and running- just go to /local/home/.d1x-rebirth/descent.cfg and edit it, change the res to either 320x240 or 320x200, meanwhile, I'll download the toolchain on this computer and see if I can deploy a build to fix that.

I'm re-building the Buildroot here, in order to have the latest toolchain, and I'll see about fixing both the resolution and if I can do a shareware build.

This revision should fix the problem for everyone that can't play due to the issues with the screen cutting.

Please, fix your link, it should be http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/dingoo.cgi?0,0,0,0,1,565
Otherwise it says "You do not have access to that function.".
Sorry guys for not caring about dingoonity lately. It was nice to be with you, and maybe I'll come back, but not now...

Just to clarify, this is a modification of zear's d1x port to make it work in OpenDingux?
I'm asking because I'm still on Dingux myself.

No, this is an original piece based on D1X-Rebirth v0.57, but I had some help from Zear as he had already worked with d1x. (Also got a few bits of his code, and his codebase uses v0.55, which is quite old already)

Neat! Is it OD only, or will it work on Dingux too? And in which case, would there be any functional difference?

Should work with the legacy just fine, but you ought to check it by yourself.

Took a while, but nope: in Dingux, it hangs on a black screen with a cursor in the top left corner. Once it sent me back to Gmenu2x, but I had to reboot after that.
