Are more strategy games still planned?
« on: April 19, 2012, 06:19:22 pm »
But on PSX emulator can play Warcraft2 or C&C, however, they two games do not run on my Dingoo-psx-emu. And if they did, my Dingoo I can only overclock a little bit and the sound will not run on PSX-Emu. Z, from Bitmap Brothers, runs, but very slow and no sound. Heroes of Might and Magic is very good, but the only good strategy game I've discovered.

Are more strategy games still planned? Example; Age of Empires (1or2), Dune2000, C&C, Starcraft1 or Warcraft.

Age of Empires <= Impossible, there's no source available

C&C <= No source, only some engine reimplementations that are not playable at the moment and are mostly abandoned. I once looked for it and there was no point on porting them.

Warcraft <= Maybe, I know there's a really advanced reimplementation called Wargus using an engine called stratagus, but it uses some other things than C++ and SDL that i'm not sure if are supported on (Open)Dingux.

Starcraft <= There's also a reimplementation using stratagus called Stargus, but has the same problem that Wargus has.

Dune 2000 <= There's no source code, but there's a reimplementation of Dune 2: http://sourceforge.net/projects/dunelegacy/

An import of Dune 2 legacy, for Dingoo, would be awesome.

What about battle for wesnoth, or some other open source strategy games?

Stratagus engine requirements don't look like anything dingoo couldn't do. Except opengl, but that is optional.

There's always OpenDune, but the last time i checked, it was highly unstable and segfaulting on the Dingoo all the time. I'm keeping an eye on this project though.

What about OpenXcom? http://openxcom.org/

Shin-NiL made a quick port but that was two years ago and IIRC lots of stuff didnt work back then

Here's a little present from me: http://crapouillou.net/~paul/opendune-dingoo-r0.1.tar.bz2

I checked the latest release of OpenDune and it was surprisingly stable, so I decided to share it with you. It's a quick proof-of-concept port without any key remapping or anything, so don't expect painless gameplay.

You will need either OpenDingux (power + B to enable mouse control), or SiENcE's virtual mouse for legacy (untested), because the game is fully mouse controlled.

You also need to have original Dune 2 datafiles from version 1.07 (see the README.txt).

Again, this is a raw port, I will try to make a proper port with keyboard shortcuts for move/attack/guard and other goodies in the future.

PS. If I remember correctly, there was a legality check after the first level, so better look for your game manuals ;)
