Kernel Panic: Problem Mounting Root File System
shadowtag:
Hi all!
I'm having trouble with my Dingux install. I followed the guide here: http://dingoo-scene.blogspot.com/2009/07/idiots-guide-to-installing-dingux-using.html using all the latest files:
* dual_boot_installer_20090916
* local-0.31The problem is, when I boot to dingux, I get a kernel panic:
--- Code: ---Waiting 1sec before mounting root device...
mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address 9916
mmcblk0: mmc0:9916 3870720KiB
mmcblk0: p1
VFS: Cannot open root device "mmcblk2p2" or unknown-block(179,2)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
b300 3870720 mmcblk0 driver: mmcblk
b301 3866624 mmcblk0p1
Kernel panic - not syncing VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(179,2)
--- End code ---
I don't think the SD card is the problem, since the official dingoo firmware recognizes and uses it just fine. Also, I've tried reformatting the card and reinstalling the local-0.31 files on it and the error stays the same.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I would suggest that you try using a different SD card to test, to rule out if its your SD card or not. Process of Elimination and all that.
I have a 16gb Micro-SD card that refuses to boot Dingux, yet I can use it fine in official Dingoo firmware and in Windows. When I change to a different SD card Dingux boots ok.
My 16gb card used to boot Dingux but got ruined thanks to Dingoo official firmware Backlight setting set to 30 secs. I got distracted by family for 10 mins, and when I returned to my Dingoo I thought it was switched off and I removed the SD card while the power was still on. Now I have the Dingoo set to 'Always On' :P

I'll definitely a new SD card when I get my hands on one. I doubt that it's the SD card, because it's displaying the tux penguin logo and going through the boot sequence (all of which are stored on the SD card) so it seems to be reading it. Also, this seems to indicate that it mounted the SD card:
--- Code: ---mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address 9916
--- End code ---
although, that's just my assumption and maybe that "SDHC card" is really just the internal memory.
When you had your boot problem with your SC card, did it show the boot screen at all? How far did the boot process get and what error did you receive?
Thanks!
gibberish:

My ruined 16gb SD card doesn't even get to the boot screen with the Penguin on anymore. The only screen I see is this one :-
I've formatted it several times and tried various different images of Toddler's local. It just simply refuses to boot Dingux now.
