How to install emulators and games (noob question))
« on: November 15, 2011, 10:44:21 pm »
Hi all

I'm trying to understand how this works.
I got my Dingoo A320 running with dualboot Dingux. I used the minimal pack as reccomended somewhere on this forum.
As I understand this local pack does not have any games or emulators, at least not of them are visible in the menues.

Do I just copy a game from the Wiki game overview to somehwere on my SD card?
And where do I copy the emulator?
How do I know which emulator to use for each game?
Anything else I need to do?  (like getting the games into a menu?
I guess the same installation apply for installing  a media player as well.

Sorry if there are stupid questions, I just can't figure it out and cannot find any idiot guides for this....

Cheers

You just drop the games somewhere on the card inside the /local/ dir. To make them visible in the menu, press [select] and choose the "add link in ..." option. Then point the menu to a .dge executable in the game dir.

As for some certain emulators that don't have a built-in rom browser, you'll have to enable the rom selector feature, which is: [select] -> edit (emu name) -> selector directory, and [select] -> edit (emu name) -> selector browser ON. This will allow you to select the right rom to launch with the emulator.

thanks, so easy.
I though it would be more complex and did not look at the menues.

I see that on the wiki games sections there are some games, I tried some of them.

I read somewhere that games like Super Mario (also Kart) should also run under Dinux.
Where can I find these games?
And do they install in the same way?

Thanks

These would be games you need to run through an emulator. NES, SNES or Gameboy Advance emulator to be exact.

You can check http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/dingoo.cgi for the list of native games and emulators.

Hm, I really need this step-by-step.

OK, I got some gba games (one *.gba file per game).
Then I copy this file to .\local\games

Then I get a NES emulator, e.g. the Snes9x4D. I copy it to .\local\emulator and make a shortcut to this emulator on my Dingux.
When I launch the emulator I get "launching Snes9x4D" for a while, then nothing happens (I though something should change then....) I'm not sure if correct so far.
If I tryu to launch a gba game a get a black sceen for a few sec (with some text), then it goes back to the menu.

Totally lost?

gba requires the gba bios to run. Snes9x4d requires you to use the rom browser to launch a game

don't really understand this.

how do I get gba bios to run? Could it run from Dingux or do I have to change my dual-load?
Found this, http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/GpSP#GBA_Bios , is this the correct way to do it?

I cannot find a rom browser, any clue?

Sorry for these noob questions, seems like that you need quite some computer know-how to do this

Thanks for your help!

Ok, you need some clarifications. "Dingux" is a port of the GNU/Linux operating system to Dingoo A320. So in other words it's an alternative firmware to the default chinese one.

You can have two kinds of programs (games, emulators, applications, etc) on the Dingoo:
1) ones that run on the chinese firmware
2) ones that run on the Dingux firmware

In your case you want to run a gba game on your Dingoo, so you'll need to find a gba emulator program, either for the chinese firmware (it's built-in, no need to install anything), or one made for Dingux (called gpsp). Gpsp for dingux requires a gba bios to be put in it's directory. Type the md5 checksum from that link of yours into google and it should give you the right bios file to download.

Hello everyone. I figured I'd just reply to this post, as opposed to making a whole new topic. I just got my Dingoo in the mail yesterday, I bought it used and it had "Dingux" already on it. For the life of me, I've been trying to get a TG-16 emulator on this bad boy and I can't lol. There was a NES one loaded on here already, so the nes roms play perfectly fine. I just want to put TG-16, SNES, GENESIS on here, and all will be good.

Is there anyone on here that can help me out? I've been reading some posts and I'm nowhere near as smart as I would like to be when it comes to the whole "portable emulation" scene lol

Many thanks in advance everyone!

Hi!

Yeah, same for me!

Im gonna install the minimal local pack and then put in SNES and PC-Engine emulators.

Do you just have to copy and paste the emulators in the /local/ dir for them to work properly, no wierd installs?
