Title: Dingux on GameGadget
Post by: Duncan_Rowland on April 28, 2012, 10:15:37 am

Just wanted to let you know OpenDingux 'works' on the GameGadget (jz4750).
I use a sandbox kernel that the GG people distribute, and a rootfs from OpenDingux.

So awesome! It's that mean that kernel would work on dingoo?

Nope :)

rootfs also doesn't work.

To be precise it's not OD running on that GG device, just GMenu :)

I used the GG sandbox kernel from here...
http://www.gamegadget.net/docs/sandbox_0.9.4.zip
(this is now updated -not tested- to
http://www.gamegadget.net/docs/sandbox_0.9.5.zip)

I just replace the rootfs.bin file with this one...
http://www.treewalker.org/opendingux/opendingux-rootfs.2011-09-04.bin
(and left the GG kernel file as it was)

Also, I copied the OpenDingux version of sqrxz over and ran it from "applications->Explorer"
http://www.sqrxz.de/sqrxz-3/sqrxz-3-download/

Works fine. Also, I've tried the legacy Dingux rootfs and that worked too with the GG kernel
http://hkzlab.ipv7.net/files/misc/dingux/normal_dingux/rootfs_elta_fixtremor.zip
(has doom, etc... but some games didn't work - I think due to /proc mismatches).

Doesn't work for me, must have done something wrong.

I put vmlinuz.bin from http://www.gamegadget.net/docs/sandbox_0.9.4.zip on the GG (not on the SD). Couldn't copy rootfs.bin because the file is too big.

Then http://www.treewalker.org/opendingux/opendingux-rootfs.2011-09-04.bin on the GG too (renamed to rootfs.bin)

Then nothing happens. It seems you click A when turning on the GG, am I wrong ?

Thanx.

Yes, you should put the files on the SD card.
Hold A while you reboot.
If it doesn't work you may need to format the SD card (seems windows works best, fat32)
(or try a different/'better' one).

Did someone checked the overclockin feature? 500 MHz maybe would run psx at decent speed w/ sound.

But seriously i don't know.

oops, missed off the games link from above, but these work too DOOM, HERETIC, HEXEN...

I tried the legacy Dingux rootfs and that worked too with the GG kernel
http://hkzlab.ipv7.net/files/misc/dingux/normal_dingux/rootfs_elta_fixtremor.zip

Along with a set of games in local.zip (also unzip on the root for the SD card):
http://warpedflash.com/dingoo/local.zip or http://www.mediafire.com/?jdxl2mtleyn
(though some other included games didn't work (MAME), and no sound - I think due to /proc mismatches).

Anyone know how I could fix this (apart from waiting for OpenDingux and a new MAME build?) e.g. a kernel patch?
Or is it possible to compile a legacy kernel for the GG so more legacy Dingux/Emulators would work?

Cheers,
    -Duncan.

p.s. Anyone else working on this? At the moment all I know is me and BAFelton.

Hi,

I take it you just copy the emulator files to the root on in its own directory on the SD card, I cant get anything working at all, so you just press select to add the link and press A on the emulator?

Does anyone have a list of emulators and download links of emulators that work on the game gadget (open dingux)

Many thanks

First you have to be sure OpenDingux runs.

If you press A when you boot the GG, the menu opens (like in the vids) and you can make links to the emulators.

You should first try emulators for Dingux here : http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/dingoo.cgi

Decompress them on your SD/Home/Emuls (for example) and make a link to the executable.

For example :

http://marvin.crapouillou.net/~paul/nobackup/zx81/dingux-cap32.2011-09-05.tar.bz2

Decompress it all, and make a link to 'dingux-cap32' file inside. Some executables are .dge files.

It should make an icon on the menu and you just have to launch it.

I made a lot of links on my forum here : http://caanoo.forumactif.org/forum

Is this the snes9x you're using?

http://www.mediafire.com/?9pvisvcrqofh99x

Did you put a rom you own in the folder for the emulator to load?

Mail me a list of the contents of your folder and your runit script.

Hi,

Ive made a folder called Snes9x, ive copied the snes9x file from the website in your link and also copied the roms to the same directory

Why do you need this runnit file? where do I get that from?

I made a link to snes9x on the main page it doesnt run screen goes blank and goes back to the home screen.

OK, well I'm new to this myself and I'm not familiar with the menu system in use here, so there maybe others better able to help. But what I did, just to test it mind you, was to make a script (runit) that executed the emulator and loaded a rom. But you're probably right that it should run from within the menu system when properly configured.

Hi Folks,
Hope someone is still active and reading this. Your posts inspired me to pickup one of these, got it very cheap. I have successfully followed your instructions, and can get opendingux working to some extent. My sole intent is to be able to play some of my favourite NES games whilst away on holiday. The only emulator I can get to work is fceu, the default emulator it seems. I would love to get one working that had support for savestates. No matter what rootfs I use, or sandbox version, I cannot get any other NES emulator to work. The majority seem to try and load, black screen, then jump back to the menu. Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks for all of your advice so far, it has been a big help.
Warmest Regards,
Stephen

Hi everyone,

I have some issues with this procedure.

I got a GGv2 from Funstock and the console won't install any other OS.... :(

Do you guys know if this console can run this fw?

I cannot play any MAME games on that!

This is what I ve done so far:

Downloaded the roofs.bin and the vmlinuz.bin (copied on the SD)
downloaded the other roofs.bin and replaced the above one

Boot the GG with the SD....pressed A (sandbox displayed)...then start flashing....

:(

You should use a sd card of 8 gigas or smaller and always format the card to fat 32 otherwise it won?t work.

For Nes emulation Fceux is the best option but Nester also works!
