Dingux Dual Boot problems
« on: October 16, 2009, 08:09:25 pm »
Hi guys, posting this back up in the hope that i can get some help.

Have a new Dingoo (ILI9331_3) unit and have tried to flash Dingux to it. I have attempted the 'Idiots guide' technique but after i falsh the dingoo it just hangs, doesnt boot up on to the flash screen. Have tried on both XP and OSX, tried installing and removing drivers etc but to no avail

Anyone got a remedy?  ???

I had issues when I flashed my Dingoo Also, It tuns out the sub port on mine was not making good contact so I had to actually dangle the A320 by the usb cord and it flashed perfectly.

Now I cant say thats the problem with yours. But thats just what happend in my case.  But my unit has always been finicky with usb

Hey,

make sure that you don't use the usb cable that was packed with the Dingoo. It's really bad quality and often causes problems.
Also note, that you have to set the Dingoo to usb mode (hold B down while resetting with a paperclip) while it is plugged in to the PC! (I tried setting it to usb mode before plugging it into the PC and got the black screen error like you)

If this doesn't help, then just use the following guide and it will work :)

I was having this same trouble as well, try reflashing the original official firmware on the device then follow the dual boot setup. This solved my problem.

Cheers for the solutions guys but i think this unit is knackered. Tried all the suggested comments but none of them work. Downloaded the recovery tool from the Dingoo888 site but it doesnt work either.  :(

One last question before this thing hits the pavement at alarming speed, what should i use to flash the firmware? Is it the recovery tool or something else?

Still going with this and getting nowhere. I have now tried a few different options with OSX but nothing is happening here either.

To me, this seems to be an issue with the Dingoo itself rather than a PC or OSX issue and im not the only one experiencing these problems. Hopefully Booboo can have a look at these issues.

Ok, sorted it through total trial and error. Hope this helps others.

What i had to do was:

1. Press reset while holding down B

2. Plug in the USB cable

3. Install the drivers as usual.

4. Unplug the Dingoo and press reset to go back to the standard Dingoo screen

5. Plug it back in but this time dont reset, just let it connect to the PC as if you were going to charge it.

6. Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager

7. Under Disk Drives you should see 'China Chip PMP USBDisk USB Device', i actually had two show up.

8. Right click and uninstall the driver.

9. Now, go to the windows toolbar along the bootom of the screen and double click on the 'safely remove Hardware' icon.

10. Click on the 'USB Mass Storage Device' and click properties, again uninstall the drivers.

11. Unplug the Dingoo, use the reset +B again and then use the command prompts.

It seems the PC was listing the ChinaChip drivers but when you remove them in the Device Manager it is only removing the hardware and not uninstalling the drivers as they still show under the 'Safely remove Hardware' option on the toolbar.

Kaxxx, I love you :P
I was having the exact same problem, and this did the trick.
A little addition to your guide: After uninstalling the ChinaChip PMP drivers, it doesn't matter if it re-detects them (that happened to me), just Safely Remove it, and you will be able to flash your Dingoo. They won't interfere anymore.

# If you can't get the dual-boot installer to start, that is, you see nothing on the A320 screen after successfully running the two usbtool commands, try to unplug then the USB cable. No idea at all what's the problem and how unplugging the cable fixes it, though (I would need such an A320 and attach a serial console).
# If, after installing the dual-boot, you cannot get dingux running, try to do a complete FAT32 format of your card (with ot without partition, dingux now supports both), and then copy zImage and rootfs before anything else. There might be some problem in u-boot-1.1.6 preventing it from reading FAT32 files in some circumstances, though I tried to fix it by backporting code from the latest u-boot.[quote/]

Thanks Chris but this is a little abracadabra for me am i supposed to format my complete dingoo?
Risk of never getting it to work ever is too big for me :-)

Nicely sorted out Kaxx! All I was getting was a black screen flashing from the windows machine 'till this.

Uh, frank, don't worry about it...  I'm stuck at the Dingux splash screen too, along with like, a hundred other people on a daily basis. I don't think it's impossible, we probably just screwed up the SD card steps in some completely unusual and fantastic way.

If you're stuck at boot time, check out the FAQ. If that doesn't help, we need to update the FAQ. :P
Write/save problems? Segmentation faults? Black screens? Read the Troubleshooting and FAQ guide first to fix your issues! :)
SD Card readonly/corruption issues? Chkdisk /F and steer clear from DMenu: use GMenu instead!

One thing that I had issues with was my method of formatting the SD card: using the panasonic formatting tool allowed for super fast transfer to and from the card but didn't seem to let the dingux to mount the local folder for some odd reason (possibly does some odd magic with the partition table with 8 GB SDHC cards...).  I had to format it using the windows/dos methods (right-click format or format x: /fs:fat32).
I had issues too at one point where all the files were in the right place, but just didn't work... I had to format the card (or delete all existing files if I was too impatient) and put the zImage and rootfs onto the root of the disk BEFORE putting anything else on (ie toddler's pack, roms, mp3's, etc).
hope this helps some of you...

Dingux supports partitioning right? Why not make the first partition big enough for the linux files, which would make the partition at the very beginning of the drive, and have a second partition for everything else. It sounds as if dingux currently has problems on the initial boot due to files being to far in due to some sort of limitation. Worth a try right?

I'm not basing this on anything yet (As I don't have my dingoo yet!), it just comes my understanding on harddrives platters which the linux code is most probably using. Could be completely wrong. It's just a thought!
