Unnamed Monkey Game (UMG) topic
« on: August 31, 2012, 05:29:42 PM »
Started the topic as people were asking questions about the game in random threads.

Unnamed Monkey Game is a platform game currently in developement for various devices, including Dingoo A320 and GCW Zero.
It is developed by 3 guys from this scene: Harteex, Topy44 and me (Zear).

You can try a very early version of the game here, but keep in mind we have progressed a lot since this last public build and the game has a lot more content and gameplay modes now. Also we plan for a commercial release of the final version, so please leave feedback whether you'd be interested in buying the game and what price range would suit you best :)

Heres a question u can answer.  Hows the progress of UMG?  I still cant beat lvl 3!!  Lol
The game is progressing well. The last few changes include:
* new industrial zone
* mob carrying animation
* respawn points for multiplayer mode
* two new multiplayer modes - "tag" and "cage hunt"
* various minor fixes

Currently I'm focusing on a desert zone. The basic tiles are finished and there are already two WIP enemies.
We're also in the middle of starting a website for the game.

Here's two recent videos:

#1 Industrial Zone
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEcfx24SSmg" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEcfx24SSmg</a>
It still needs some polish, like background scenery, but otherwise it's pretty much done.

#2 Cage Hunt mode
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZgbq_J2IW8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZgbq_J2IW8</a>
In the single player game, cages are used as bonus items you can find to unlock extra content.
In this multiplayer mode however, I reused the captured monkey sprite as an item players have to race each other for. Whoever frees the most randomly spawned cages - wins.

Expect more content from us in the future - after all, feedback is what drives us forward and motivates to work harder ;)

What about preorders? (I want one)
And do you plan to sell UMG for each system separately or one purchase for all builds?

Currently we don't plan any preorders. But we might reconsider it if there is higher demand.

I'd rather want a "pay once - get all versions" method (this would probably not include special versions, like android/iphone). But we'll see how it turns out.

And here's a video of something funny:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLA4WUYkY-U" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLA4WUYkY-U</a>.
In order to test the multiplayer modes when no other players are around, I wrote simple bots. They're quite dumb as you guys can see, but they serve their purpose.

Never ask for ETA (in other words- "it's done when it's done.")

Loved the PC demo, looking forward to playing some multiplayer with fellow GCW-Zero owners.

One minor gripe - although I love most of the retro aesthetics, I hate the original DMG's puke-green palette. I know you have "no colours" listed as a "feature", but I'd really like if there was a way to adjust the palette, SGB/GBC style. Perhaps with a hidden menu/secret cheat code, or have individual color palettes as unlockables or in-game collectable items.
I play games on: Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GBA SP, NDS Phat, NeoGeo Pocket Color, Panasonic 3DO, Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Nomad, Sega CDX w/Power Base Converter, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, PC, EGP1000, Dingoo A330, LetCool N350JP, and (soon) GCW-Zero SE.

The gameboy color palette is intentional. Different classic palettes might be used for sequels ;)

I'm writing a french article about Unnamed Monkey Game. Have you got an official logo of UMG to join on it ?

Thanks for your great job on UMG and on GCW Zer0 !
