So I have a "fake" Dingoo
« on: August 10, 2010, 08:27:34 am »
Hi,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I ordered a white Dingoo from DealExtreme on the second of this month, and it just arrived late last night. It has that ?4G A320WH9330047? serial number next to one of the speakers; and a paw print with a J and followed characters in some Asian language on the back.  Apparently this is supposed to be  the ?fake? one.

Doing the up, right, down command, in the about screen reveals the following information:
Version v1.2
Verdor ID: Ox 1be1369
SDRAM: (Asian characters)
LCD Module: LCM_FAIR_ILI9331_3
LOADER SUM: Ox 90614d
OS: Ox a2d83c5
OS (Asian characters): Sep 22 2009 09:38:11
(Asian characters): 267656

It took awhile for it to turn on; but it finally did I was able to test it. The games already on it worked fine, and the other functions also worked. Will I be able to use the method from the DIngoo wiki to get DIngux  running (since the screen is one of the proper types)? Should I start the refund process with DX? Am I worrying for nothing? I don?t really care if it?s fake or real, just as long as it works.

I have a black Dingoo with the same serial number. The only difference is I got mine from ShopTemp. For me, it works perfectly except for Neo-Geo ROMs which get VERY pixelated and unviewable if the screen zooms. However, that's why they invented Dingux: use this to install the dual-boot loader and then use this for files on your miniSD card.

Glad to hear it works!

I would like to try getting Dingux working but the Dingoo won't turn on. It's been charging from the wall (Not using the included charger) for probably two hours now; and when I turn the charger off, or unplug it it just turns off.

Charger specs are:
Input 100-240 v AC 50/60 Hz 0.1a
Output: DC 5.4V 600mA

Is the battery icon suppose to move, because it just shows it full.

No, battery icon doesn?t move after 5 seconds of charging, weird but normal. Maybe try charging via USB or with a different cable, some people (like me ^^) have problems with some cables, while others that look exactly the same work just fine.

Or try pressing the A or X button when the green battery appears. Then you will see the normal sceen. Mine is charging when skipping the battery animation.

Beginging to think it is a fake (or somethings wrong with the battery).

Has three bars without the + sign; but when unplugged-from the computer-, it will last for about a minute before the screen will start to flicker and it will turn off.

Any help or suggestions would be great!

Ya know, I APPARENTLY have a fake AND a real Dingoo... My fake one worked great except a few issues, it did have that EXACT serial numbers but the cable would not charge the console, just had to replace the cable... If I plugged it in it would show full bars but would not show it charging, if I unplugged it-it would die from not having power lol, after I replaced the cable it worked perfectly... I DID notice some differences between my fake Dingoo and real Dingoo, one the fake Dingoo definitely has a cheaper charger and came with a cable that does data transfer but doesn't charge, also after a while the computer could not longer access the Dingoo and would not nomatter what, the real Dingoo has no problem... Also you can tell that even though they look almost totally identical you can tell there was some different materials used.

when you are charging your dingoo and your on the native os screen it'll show a plus mark with the bars full. and if not just a picture of a battery charging. are you saying when you plug it in it just shows full battery with now plus mark?

When I plug it into a sleeping computer or power point-not using the charger provided because it doesn't fit- it shows the charging battery. I can get into the menu screen (to play games etc) and sometimes it shows the two bars with the "+" sign, and sometimes it shows three bars. If it shows the three bars I can unplug it, and it goes to the normal screen; I can play for about a minute before it turns off. If it doesn't show the  three bars it just turns off, and using the power switch doesn't do anything.

I have sent a Broken/Defective ticket to DX, hoping they will get back to me soon.

Also, I have been timing how long it stays on for, and its allways around a 1:20, could it be a software bug. ???

Well, to me it sounds like a defective battery through and through. However, this isn't because your Dingoo is "fake." Mine is "fake" and my battery is incredible. A faulty battery can happen to any Dingoo model; it's just a good idea to get one from a seller that actually tests the products before they sell them.

I'm tending to believe these "fake" Dingoos are becoming the pattern these days. Haha. Everyone is getting this serial number, no matter the place where the console was bought from.

I think one place makes the case for both groups

Have a look at this thread over @ DX: http://www.dealextreme.com/forums/Default.dx/sku.20217~threadid.676018
They take it serious, and there are some customers who have the same charging issues described here by various people (Dingoo simply not charging, thus unusable). Damn fakers, yes, FAKERS. Same serial on many Dingoos is a clear sign of fake. May they rot in hell.  >:(

My real Dingoo is fine, and my fake worked fine after I replaced the cable, battery life was well, it turned out that the cable that came with it didn't have the connections to recharge it, it was a data only usb cable lol, I went and bought a new cable and it worked perfectly lol, but yeah, I know what a Dingoo looks like when it's charging :P I have a working real one and my fake one worked after getting a new cable. BEFORE it would just show a full battery (no plus sign or anything) and die once unplugged... For some reason that one they put too cheap of a cable in it :P other than that problem the only noticeable thing I've found is that the real Dingoo charger is more weighted and the pins move smoother.

I believe so. I don't actually know exactly what happens but I know that it doesn't work. You won't do any permanent damage, at worse you'll need to re-flash it, that's all.

No, you don't need it.

In fact, it's a buggy piece of crap. Or so they say.

Just stay with 1.2.
