In search of a new Dingoo A320
« on: August 16, 2012, 09:20:17 AM »
Heya guys! I was the happy owner of a Dingoo A320 but the screen broke and it wouldn't work anymore. Now, it seems like the A320 is a dying breed, being replaced by faulty A330 and A380. So, my question is:
I found the A320 is being sold in DealExtreme and Dingoo Digital USA, with different prices. In DealExtreme costs around $75 and in Dingoo Digital USA it costs $85, which makes me doubt why the difference in prices; might be the remaining ones in DX are faulty units? Is Dingoo Digital USA trustworthy? I ask all of this because I bought my previous Dingoo A320 in Think Geek and I know that store is reliable. Thanks for any and all help guys!

They are both reliable. I had to wait more than a month before DealExtreme shipped the device to me. Warranty claims are no issue. The only issue is that the production of the A320 has been stopped and the stock is almost depleted. The A330 and A380 are by no means a replacement for the A320.

Fixed it for you. You should check the Dingoo A-380 forum before you make such claims.  ;)

I was more thinking in terms of OD (software) support. I even dare to say that the A320 has the worst hardware of them all.

So, you think a A380 is a worthy upgrade from the A320? I've been reading and it seems even upgrading the firmware is difficult :/

The hardware isn't bad. But if you can get a hold of an A320 I would suggest that instead. Mainly because of the current release of OpenDingux.

I would say it's a worthy upgrade but it all depends on what you like to do with it. The hardware is good and you don't have to worry to brick it. I really like the wireless controllers and the easy upgrade from 4GB to 32GB internal storage capacity.

Upgrading the firmware with the custom firmware isn't really difficult. Once you know how to do it it's a piece of cake and again you don't have to worry to brick your console when you keep the original 4GB MicroSD as a backup and use a new or formatted MicroSD card with the custom firmware to replace it.

I would also like to say a few words about OpenDingux. It would be nice to have it on the Dingoo A-380 but I don't think that we really need it. What we need is good emulators. We already have a good NES and Atari Lynx emulator build by d_smagin and other emulators are going to follow to make the firmware better and have more fun.

So, the A380 is good but if I can buy the A320 even more so? Lol, I'm confused. I've been reading all the forums looking for reasons NOT to buy the A320 but it seems it's an oldie but a goodie. I'm confused @__@

A380 isn't an upgrade, more a sideways step as it does pretty much what A320 does with varying degrees of success (some better, some worse). As a Dingoo alternative it looks ok.

Probably best waiting for something better now though, you can get a lot more for your money these days. Personally I'd hang on until the GCW is released and the final product has been reviewed objectively, if that turns out well then you might be spending a bit more on that. Looks like it runs Snes and Playstation very well from the prototype videos.

If my Dingoo broke that's what I'd do anyway.
Handhelds:
JXD S7300b, Dingoo, DS Lite, GBA SP, PSP, HTC One X, HTC Dream.
Netbooks/Palmtops:
Acer 522 (4gb ram) Radeon 6310 - MSI Wind U230 (4gb ram and DTV card installed)
Psion Series 5 and 5mx, Psion Series 3 and Psion Siena

Yeah, I've been looking into the GCW: looks good but the company making it doesn't seems very reliable. Hmm, I think  I'm going to look for a A320. Maybe I'll find it. I really miss playing my GBA and SNES games in my Dingoo ;__;

Did you get one? I have one that I've not used in ages that I can sell. I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada if that helps.

Cheers,

Martin

Also, ThinkGeek doesn't carry the Dingoo A320 anymore.
I think they either didn't sell well at $100 (they dropped to $70 towards the end) or they lost interest...

Amazon, Ebay, DealExtreme and a few others still offer them.

Still a bargain for what they do, even as technologically outdated as it is, it's still a tiny wonder, especially to the uninitiated gamers out there.

Ordered mine last year from DX and they had it it in their "local" US warehouse... I got it in 3 business days.  Actually received it BEFORE I got the shipping notification...

But for $125 why wouldn't you just buy one of the GCW Zeros?  Last post from Justin said that he had 10 left(of 150 batch) and would sell them...

[EDIT]
Wow! Didn't realize how old this thread was, or the OP... anyways the above still mainly applies as the other day when I checked DX still indicated A-320s in stock, but for c. $37 more I'd go for the Zero... Just so much more/better...
