Which Emulator Should I Get?!
« on: January 15, 2012, 02:32:50 PM »
Hi i have been looking around at the a380 and a320 but i don't know which to get. I wanted the a380 because it has better specs but then i saw the a320 had more support and stuff like that. all i really wanted is one to run GB/GBC/GBA and NES games and i wanted to know if the a380 or a320 or any other i don't know about will run those emulators good. but i really just wanted to a380 because how it looks lol and i also heard about the a320e what is that i see it looks like the a380 also maybe that could be an option.

The A380 to me seems better built and higher spec.

But  the Dingoo A320 only had a handfull or Emulators like CPS1/2, Neo Geo MVS, NES, SNES, SMD and GBA out of the box, the community worked hard to provide other Emulators both on Native OS and also Dingux which was a Lingux port again the community ported.

The A380 company just used the improved emulators the community worked hard on, without giving any credit to their hard work. The whole story has more to it than that, but pretty much the community that made the A320 what it is, will not (well a large number of the coders etc) support the A380 because of the way it has stolen and not given credit to others hard work.

I think the A380 has attracted some community to help improve but not at the level the A320 had.

So the A320 has more support but then its what A320 do you get nowadays when you order as there are many versions knocking about, also the A320 is not exactly a very well built system.

If i had a A380 i would be able to give a unbiased view, but with a few A320's i dont see them being that much more powerful in terms of a worthwhile upgrade for me.

If i had no A320's then it would be a tough as, but i guess the A320 has more support.

You could ask the A380 section for help and see what they think of them.

I got my Dingoos 2nd hand for about £45 each, myself i also think the Caanoo is worth considering.

Put simply, you'll be screwed with the 380.  It uses a horrid version of Dinguix that no one wants to develop for.

Just stick with the A320 in this case, you'll go the farthest with it.  Especially for GBA, the roms run nearly flawless on it in most cases.

As i have said you may be best asking in the A380 section  with people who have used the device, as their could be some who may be a little biased to the A320, even if the A380 was fantastic but the company who made it acted the same as they have done (kinda stolen the software as most of the stuff for it was not created or worked on by the makers of teh A380). It could still get some Stigma...

Depends on what you want it for, as software support and homebrew support would not compete with the A320 for the above reasons.

Looking at the A380 if any emulators apear to be buggy or other problems happen, then again there would be fewer people willing to help because less would actually bother with a A380.

Thus the A380 has less support so expect less ports or indeed less quality ones.

The A380 should offer 2 player gamming and TV Out multiple player, but as far as Emulation goes i would gather that the A380 has potential to improve SNES, CPS2 and Neo Geo speeds over the A320s because of the 500Mhz CPU and extra ram.

Saying that most of those run fine if you have a Dingoo A320 that can over clock to 420Mhz.

If your only after GBA, NES and GB/GBC then the Dingoo A320 is hands down the system to get.

If your after better Sega MD and SNES then i would reconmend a Wiz or Caanoo instead.

alright it seems that ill be happy with the a320 considering it has the emulators i want and the support from the community if i want any help but now i have two more questions. What is the a320e and does it have the same support as the regular a320 and does both of these have NES GB/GBC/GBA emulators or would i be able to add them?

Both have gb/gbc/gba and nes emulators.
For the moment you can't add new emulator on a320e, seems the firmware need an update.

The A320E is not a A320 it is the A380 minus wireless and g-sensor.

So Emulators and Support would be the same as the A380.

I am kinda glad i got my A320's a while ago as it seems you just cant be sure what your gonna get nowadays.

It may be handy to wait to see if they apear on Ebay in the country you are in, as at the moment on Ebay it seems the ones they have are all shipped from China/HK

Again it depends, i dont know much about the A380 as i dont have one, some on here may be biased against it due to the way the company acted.

When it comes down to the A380 or A320E it comes down to if the buyer would ever use the device for multiple players... if not then they may aswell save a few $$$$££££ on getting the A320E

I think the build quality outside of the A380/320E is better than the A320, internally its better spec.

But then again Laserdisc was better than DVD, Betamax better than VHS.

So potentially the A380s would have been better than the Dingoo had the company not gone about the way it did, in using other peoples hard work and passing itself off as its own, the company shot itself in the foot.

Had the company not upset the comunity that made the simple A320 from what it was to a real competitor if not beater of the more powerfull Wiz/Caanoo, then the A380 with the community and development backing that the A320 had would have been the better device.

But thats not the case and so yes maybe the A320 is best option to stick to, the only drawbacks Emulation wise is that the console can not Emulate to near full 60fps CPS2, Neo Geo MVS and SNES but saying that it does a pretty good job and other systems prior to those it does a good if not great job.
