PAL or NTSC ROMs for Emulation??
(1/1)
ricsi:
I was just asking myself, what the optimal region is for the emulated ROMs.
Eg if there is a PAL and a NTSC version - which one should you use. (for eg. SNES and Genesis)
I think it is PAL, as it has higher resolution, and 50 Hz is still plenty. (NTSC has lower resolution but higher refresh rate).
What do you think?
PS: Reason is that I bought the Genesis Device from Dealextreme, and it chokes on PAL genesis ROMs, and wants NTSC. (I copied over the folder from my dingoo)
Chris23235:
That depends on the game and your taste, PAL Roms run with only 50 Hz (the game mostly run with 25 FPS) , that can be an advantage, if the game isn't emulated in fullspeed, if you use the NTSC version (which runs with 60 Hz and usually with 30 FPS), but the game is considerably slower then.
QBert:
The majority of Genesis games were designed for NTSC (Japan, USA). I'd say it's best to use the NTSC version of a particular game, unless it's a euro-only release. I seem to remember some PAL versions being inferior to the NTSC originals (eg: black bars at the top and bottom of the screen).
Nickeng:
Certainly from the point of view of the original real machines the NTSC versions was always better as they ran 17% faster than PAL ones due to the NTSC number of lines per screen refresh.
I always bought NTSC console version on the past.
Mario Kart on SNES was like a different game.
Now whats this is like on an emulated console, im not sure...
