No way.
I generated firmware.bin from the not-bricked console and put in the bricked one, but wifi still doesn't work.
Maybe wlan.ko isn't in the firmware?

Damn thought we were close...

So, if Yinlips provided us the firmware, our wifi wouldn't still be working?
Uhm!

Oh no that's not what I meant...
There will be a correct firmware, which Yinlips will have (they would have written it to the device in the first place) . Had been convinced however that copying the firmware from one device to the other would sort it.... Wifi being F**ked is a common issue I have had with custom roms before (I have 6?ish android devices, most of them running custom Roms).  So have no doubt it can be fixed... But we are back to depending on willgo or Yinlips...

I am wondering if the backup being made is just the user data partition.. not the system partition... (My other thought for why it did not work, is that you have a pre-nov and a post Nov g19 in front of you... they just sent the 2 from different stock batches...)

my same thought...and that would be very unlucky!

I am wondering if the backup being made is just the user data partition.. not the system partition...

the backup generates this files:
*firmware.bin
*gpdroid_data.tgz
*gpdroid_user.tgz

With the tool that burns firmware i put on the device only firmware.bin (plus the other .bin, token from the reboot-upgrade-fiz).

Should i have put the content of the files .tgz too? If so, in which way?

As far as I know, modules in these GP33003 are in bootpak.bin (kernel), and are copied from there to device at every reboot (probaly loaded via init.rc), so that is probably the reason why is not working this backup in your device I think.

*gpdroid_data.tgz
*gpdroid_user.tgz

have you pulled them in to winrar (or simlar) and had a look in them?

And the backup function doesn't generate that bootpack.bin, great :(

Yes.
*user.tgz contains the folders you see when you connect the device to the pc via usb (games, roms, apps, etc)
*data.tgz contains a little more interesing set of folders. But the only that has "wifi" in the name is a subfolder of "misc", and the content of this "misc/wifi" is:
-entropy.bin
-ipconfig.txt
-softap.conf
-wpa_supplicant.conf

yes ADB-Driver is the first step after you have enable the Debug-Mode in Android (Developer Option in Settings)

a Guide to install ADB is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830108
( a litle bit to much..but it is complete)

would it not work for him though, to just download your batch file from page 1, open a Command prompt window into that folder and just use the adb.exe in that folder, locally rather than messing around with path and things?

Just written a batch file to do it (using the sparky root one as a base)

Make sure, USB debug mode is on in developer settings (On your device)
If you have not done it yet, run TPSparkyRoot first
Then run wifipatch,,

Wrote the batch file and then ran it to fix mine (rather than fix mine manually) .. and my machine now works
SO should work on yours :)

Here i am!
Thank you for your effort and for the wlan.ko :D

I tried the two batches: with both of them i get errors "device not found", but TPSparkyRoot in the end told me "all changes have been removed excluding Root. Device should be rooted."

Wifipatch told me these messages:
"su is not a command"
"device not found"
"should have copied it to system/lib/modules/common/wlan.ko and chmoded"
"should be it *cross well everything* rebooting..."
"reboot is not a command"
"press a key to cointinue..."

and wifi still doesn't work :(

You don't have drivers installed for the device... (I had to try 3 different machines before one took it) If you plug the   G19 and check device drivers you will find that it is just called a composite device with an error message.

Thats why adb is saying it can not find the device, as a result its not really rooting or installing the correct wifi adaptor.

To fix it... install PdaNet http://junefabrics.com/android/  ...
It contains android generic drivers, so should, after installing allow the console to be plugged in correctly
(Just checked it on one of the machines I tried it on this morning and it connects after PdaNet is installed)

In device drivers it will then appear as Phone>Android interface Driver....

At that point you should be able to run the patch I put together and it work properly
(if it isn't reseting btw, it is;nt working)
instal PdaNet, then try the patch again and let me know what happens

It's hard to believe for me, but...IT WORKS :D
Thank you both very much!!!
And with that 2 batch files rooting and installing it's a cakewalk!

I guess Feierprinz had to unwrap the gift in order to provide us wlan.ko, eheh :D

:) all sorted then..

@Felerprinz, Is it worth you modifying (adding to at the button of it) the first post with the solution (probably including installing PdaNet with the drivers, so anybody else (particually the week after Christmas when lots of these things under the Christmas tree).  Can find it without trailing through the last five pages ?

Oh and merry Christmas all :)

Hello guys! A new firmware update spotted for Russian rebranded YDPG19 - Smaggi A550.

http://smaggi.ru/files2/A550-201211-8GB-XXXX.rar

No change log. On A550's page it says this version is for devices with serial numbers starting like "А550-201211-8GB-XXXX".
Files timestapes show that firmware's been created on December 13th.

Now I wonder why there are two different firmwares - this new one for "А550-201211-8GB-XXXX" devices and an old one for devices with serial numbers "А550-0912-хххх"???

What's been changed? Any thoughts?
