I was just poking around the Yinlips website and noticed this article.

http://www.yinlips.com/en/news/detail.aspx?v=676

If I understand the it correctly, it would appear that the device does not have a proper charge controller.
"...when full charge, YDPG18A will emit a tone, to remind the user to disconnect the charger, avoid overcharging damage the battery health."

Am  I interpreting this right? If so then you would not want to leave the device plugged in overnight. This seems unusual to me. Or is this the case with all of the handhelds available now?

I guess Yinlips was suggestion people not to overcharging the 18A. This will hurt the battery. That means you can disconnect the power charger once the battery power is full on 18A. No need to charger it the whole night.

The discount is rather tempting. For those users that have received their 18a's and applied Qbert's clean firmware. How would you rate your satisfaction level with device now? Would you consider it a worthwhile investment? Or is it a headache to deal with?

It's not a clean firmware it's just the basic firmware. (Unless I did something wrong) Everything appeared to me the same way it did when it came out of the box.

That said, I still really like my YDPG18A.

This can also mean that battery charger in 18A is not a good one (without automatic charge shutdown)

I was under the impression that the the firmware Wilgoo provided to Qbertaddict (as mentioned earlier in the thread) got rid of the Game Manager. Can anyone confirm this?

I installed it, and unless I did something wrong the game manager was still there.

Yinlips posted these firmwares on 531. Not sure if it's the same one Qbert has or not.

is it possible to have this rom? I need it cause i have a console blocked in boot loop. i hope to repair it if I reflash firmware...
I am uploading a file with the g16 and g18 image as well as livesuite and the needed drivers for unlockroot. It will be done shortly. Follow the tutorial on my channel and just choose the g18 file. Make sure you have a ydpg18a device not the upgrade version.  Do this at your own risk but I wouldn't worry too much.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/78572377/Livesuite%20G16%20And%20G18A.zip

It will be ready in about an hour.

This is the firmware I was referring to, which QBert calls a "stock rom." Is that what you used?

It was my understanding that the firmware qbertaddict uploaded was just the stock ROM useful for resetting your device to its factory state if you somehow bricked it or otherwise messed it up.

That said, is there anyone working on a "clean" ROM that removes all the pre-installed junk and removes the requirement that the Game Manager be running in order for the buttons to work? I would love to see something like what skelton made for the S5110, but I don't know how hard that is.

Ahh, I understand. Wasn't clear on the difference between a "stock rom" and a "clean rom".

I thnik you mean the rom I did for s601. The s5110 rom is still in progress :) Though in a few day will be ready.
I don't accept PM messages. I am tired of them. Use forum to consult me anything.

So... both roms so far (the one uploaded by qbert and the one available from Willgoo) are with the Game Manager thingy? Anyone tried both and can give an opinion of which is better in terms of having the Market installed, beign able to root the device and being able to install newer emulators (even if we still need the Game Manager to assing keys)?

Got my device today. It seems to have come already rooted, with the market pre-installed. I was able to install titanium backup to remove some unwanted stuff, and also to uninstall the old versions of some of the pre-installed emulators.

One thing I can't figure out; I'd like to delete and re-download Fpse, but I can't see it on the market from my device. On the web it's saying it's not compatible with my device. Obviously it IS compatible because I've got the older version on there now. How do I get the market to recognize the YDPG18 as compatible with FPSE?

My friend, we suggest you try qbert's as you can get his prompt help once you got any problem on it. He is always be here!

Thanks Willgoo ;D. But I just checked out both roms with a program that checks for duplicate files, and both roms (qbert's and the one available in your site) seem to be identical. Qbert's package includes the utility to root the device though. Once I get my unit, I'll report back, but maybe other fellow members of this forum that already got their GP18A could report their findings to either our friend Qbert or Willgoo, and maybe then Yinlips could provide us with a better, bare bones rom?

And thanks Willgoo for your concern :).

Well in trying to edit the build.prop file to appear as an xperia play in order to download a legit copy of FPSE, I bricked my device. On day one. Of course. :-) It became stuck on the loading animation.
Fortunately I was able to reflash it with the rom and tools Qbertaddict provided. *Whew!*

Obviously I didn't get the build.prop right. Could anyone point me to some very specific directions on preparing the YDPG18A to download a proper copy of FPSE?

Use titanium backup on another device copy the apk to your sd card then side load it is your best bet
