Which old games would you like see get an Android port?
« on: December 03, 2013, 08:38:59 pm »
We've already seen many ports of old games, from Sonic CD/1 to GTA and Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and the Final Fantasy games.
Being a huge Sonic fan, seeing ports of Sonic 2 and my all-time favorites 3&K and Adventure 1/2 (Chao garden on the go with online features = mindblown), would make me scream like a fangirl. Also, I'd like to see Nights into dreams and Panzer Dragoon ports, since I don't have a PC anymore and Saturn emulation is quite tricky. For the same reason I'd love to get Shenmue 1/2 and Skies of Arcadia ports, this unless we finally get a DC emulator :p
Why Square Enix still hasn't ported The World Ends With You Solo Remix is beyond me, and I hope we'll start to see KH ports (never played them unfortunately), considering they're porting Dragon Quest 8 along with the other DQ games on Android.
Also, I know this is nearly impossible, but give me a DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 port with local and online multiplayer and I'll start vomiting rainbows.

I would absolutely love it if old classic PC FPS games were brought over, especially if Valve ported the original Half Life. No need for fancy updated textures or anything as it doesn't need them, just the original version would be brilliant.
I would also like the original Far Cry or if that's too much maybe the two XBox games which are more linear. The first two Alien vs Predator games would be great too.

Another game which would be cool is Morrowind, there are a few Skyrim knock offs on the Play Store but the are pale immitations to the real thing.

I also think Sega should port some of their old driving games like Virtua Racing, Daytona and Sega Rally, they're fun games and are well suited to mobile gaming.

Perhaps the game I want the most though would be Fallout 3. I run it on my AMD C-50 based netbook so it could be crammed into a tablet...

I've seen a port of Simon the Sorcerer on google play, and I'd also like to see Space Quest V lol

A version of Conquest of The New World would also be welcomed... and.... Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri, yes  ;D

And Dune, it could work well on tablets because it's a clicking game. I've seen Dune 2 free on Gplay but it's tiresome to play Rts's with touch  ???

Classic point-and-click adventures, like ICOM Simulations' MacVenture series. ZOJOI, LLC is working on a remake of Shadowgate, so at least there's that.

Why Square Enix still hasn't ported The World Ends With You Solo Remix is beyond me

I wonder if they have some sort of exclusive deal. They ported over Final Fantasy All the Bravest rather quickly...

X-Com UFO Defense..

How about Xenowar? It may not be a "true" port, but it attempts to recreate the core gameplay.

Lemmy speaks my language. Half-life and morrowind would be two of my top choices. I would also like to see alot of old dos games brought over (i'm retro like that).  Ports of wackey wheels, crusader no remorse, terminal velocity, daggerfall, and cannon fodder come to mind.

I've never played a FPS for some reason, but I would definitely try Half Life seeing how everyone wants a sequel. But that's the exact same reason I'm afraid of playing it and Shenmue, I don't want to become obsessed with getting a sequel too lol. The same about AvsP, and I have to watch the movies asap.
Point and click and RTS games are a genre I'd like to give a try to, and using a touch screen could be a good alternative to the mouse and keyboard combo. It's what Ninty should do with the Wii U, that would be a game changer for consoles.
About TWEWY exclusivity, it might be that, but seriously, that and Theatrhythm (or however it's spelled) are games I'd kill for to play on an Android console. BTW, I'm curious about the FF6 port Squeenix talked about some time ago. They said they would decrease the grinding and the random encounters which is definitely a plus (I couldn't bring myself to play the game further than when *spoiler* Terra opened the gate of the Espers who went berserk *end of spoiler* because I can't stand those two in a JRPG as much as I used to); also they said they would improve the graphics, but I hope it's not a DS style 3d remake, or it ends up looking like a RPG Maker game like FF1/2/4/5 did.
About racing games, a porting of NFS Most Wanted and Underground would be awesome too, also pelikan (the one behind Sonic Fan Remix which BTW would be great-although-highly-unlikely to see on Android), was making a KS funded arcade racing game which if I'm correct would be released on Android too.

Heroes of Might & Magic 3
Warlords 3
Age of Wonders 2
basically any classic fantasy TBS. And not only "fantasy": Civilization 3/Alpha Centauri & Master of Orion 2 would great too. Settlers 2 on 10" Android tablet would be pure heaven!
If we're talking about classics of FPS genre, I want some blood. I mean, give me B̩ḻ͖̯̝̹o̙̜o̰d͎̝ on Android! Shadow Warrior, Dark Forces and Unreal/UT1 to finish my list here.
Strike series from EA. By the way, EA just registered european trademark for "Desert Strike", so maybe mobile remake or direct port on its way.
Diablo 1 & 2, first two Fallout games, Arcanum & Jagged Alliance (classical dilogy).

Speaking aside of PC, Burnout (not so old, but) and more Sega Saturn/Dreamcast ports.

PS. Not for port, but I would like to see the day when classic Road Rash series will be resurrected.

Well Half Life, AvP and Shenmue kinda did have sequels  ;)  Seriously the original HL is a very absorbing game, you can either get the Source version or just buy the original CD. I like the original and you can get the generations box (with loads of extras) really cheaply. There's also the They Hunger single player mod which is a really good zongle player Zombie game.

Also you don't need to watch the AvP movies to enjoy the games, in fact I don't like the films at all. Just grab the AvP Gold edition (extremely cheap) and play as the marine - best experience of the Alien films in any videogame ever IMO.

Also - Doom 3. In fact I wish ID would release a Doom collection with everything on it, I would buy that in a second.

In fact now John Carmack is gone (and presumably taken his iPhone lust with him) they might be more open to non Apple platforms.

Doom 3 is available as well as return to castle wolfenstien. i don't think they run very well though as they are not official ports.

Drem, i'm an idiot, i cannot believe i did not mention blood or UT. i shall now crawl into a corner and cry for my insolence...............

seriously though, good choices, i agree with all of those. As skelton said, some of the classic saturn and Dc stuff would be great as well.

Wow cheers HercTNT, I didn't know Doom 3 had been ported, same guy that did the Quake ones too and they're excellent. Will give this a try, not holding out much hope but you never know eh?

Btw the RtCW port runs beautifully on the JXD S7300.

Well just got Doom 3 working on my S7300 and also on my HTC OneX (Tegra 3) for comparison.

On the S7300 is is actually very playable, at least until things get hectic. Frame rate is ok but the graphics are stripped down, it looks like a posh Half Life! There are missing textures and pop in but overall nothing too bad for a beta of such an impressive engine. As usual with the ID Tech ports from n0n3m4 the controls map perfectly and everything feels just like playing it on a normal controller. The muzzle flash and smoke have missing textures which impedes gameplay, I'll have a play with this when I have time.

On the OneX things are actually really good. It is smooth and the graphics can be ramped up, there are no missing textures I can see and it looks great. Still prefer it on the gaming tablet though due to the controls. Got it working with my Ipega pad (analogs are seen as keys though) and it's plays well. Still not fast enough to enable shadows but looks good.

So that's something I didn't think I'd see for a while! For anybody that likes Quake games just try n0n3m4's engine ports, they're something else. The Play Store publisher is called Proger10. Btw unlike the previous games this one actually does need to be fully updated before you transfer the game folder over as it uses things from the latest update.
