OpenBOR gamepad setup
« on: September 25, 2014, 05:31:01 pm »
Been trying to play this: http://gamejolt.com/games/action/he-man/19434/   (apk included in download btw)

Seems to work fine and looks completely amazing, however I can't seem to get the gamepad working properly using a G5A. The Dpad works and usually one of the buttons but when I go into the control configuration I can't work out how to assign anything. Tried pressing both hardware and touch buttons but all I get is the ability to assign an axis when I press Start.

Anybody had any luck with this?
Handhelds:
GPD Win, GPD XD 64gb, PlayGo, RS-90, 3DS XL, DSi XL, GBA SP, GBBC Clone, Gameboy Pocket c/w screen mod, PSP Go
PC:
Medion Erazer, Toshiba Z20t, Dell Mini 9, Psion 5MX
Tons of other old laptops and tablets.....

you have to hold the button which you want to assign and use onscreen touch buttons to assign physical controls of GPD

you have to be fast and try it several times so its not axis, its gyro sensor thats creating false axis inputs, if youre fast enough you can setup controls properly, just try multiple times and use special S button onscreen to do it.

So... if i want to assign button A on GPD to attack1 then i hold button A on gpd and press S button onscreen to assign it, if it says axis is assigned then try it again until it will assign button A properly.

As 2blackbar says, controls become crazy when trying remapping inside a game. It detects all inputs of devices, including accelerometers, so it's not very well programmed I guess.

Can you guys try this build?

https://mega.co.nz/#!x4p3QbKA!Cc2_vzO8WX2P41wpCil-patWWVHj7j7SXawPIRyse4Y

It has the same issues if you remap when you are in a game, but at least for me all controls seems to work by default in the games I have tried, so I haven't needed to remap them. Let me know if this build works better for you or not.

I don't play too much with openbor so no idea if everything is ok or not.

I already remapped GPD and usb gamepad so i can play 2 players games  :) you just have to keep trying and tapping  button until it shows proper name in control config menu
Anyway its a funny coincidence because im actually the guy who's creating this he-man game , my @mail is 2blackbar thats why im using it here :) my @mail is mentioned on gamejolt at the end of the info about game, its nice to see stuff like this. You can use apk version provided in zip file with game , i actually recommend it because newest ones have some experiments with AI and weird stuff can happen.

I'll try 2blackbar's suggestion first with the G5A flat on a table, hopefully it will sort it out.

I don't really like openBoR games that much, just not a big fan of the genre but the He-Man one is incredible. It plays really well with lots of variety and is a real labout of love from a graphical standpoint. Plus it has the original music and a clip of He-Man punching the screen, you can also be Battlecat.

Check it out:

Looks completely amazing on bigger screens.

I have an openbor version I got somewhere (to play world heroes, best package for this!), debug version which works well. In my i5 I had problems configuring the keys, so,

I disabled gamepad in options and restart game. Then mapping worked. Hope it helps.

Managed to get it working thanks guys!

@ 2blackbar just re-read your post and realised it's your game - good job man! It absolutely nails the vibe of the original cartoon while being crisp and polished at the same time, if I saw it I would think it was a commercial arcade game I had missed out on. So yeah, well done!

2blackbar? Are you serious? Man, I've been watching this game develop for ages. Well done. I still haven't tried it though. Will it actually play well on these Android devices?

I'm a graphic artist, and I can't even imagine the amount of work you've put into this... I'm jealous of the amount of passion you have :D (Maybe my time in the industry has soured me ;) ) And the quality is super top notch!

It runs flawlessly on the G5A, looks fantastic. In fact I also put it on my old EeePC 4G and it runs well on that so I don't think you have anything to worry about!

Thanks guys ! I do have problem with some animations that im plannning to replace cause they look too stiff , next probably will be merman and maybe some she-ra playable character.
I bought GPD Q88+ to play my games and works fine , for 2 player mode im using tincore but i have to remap player 1 and player 2 in it, then map them again in openbor using tincore keys.

You could have a Mortal Kombat style digitised Dolph Lundgren as an unlockable!

Brilliant! I downloaded it before. I'll chuck it on the tab tomorrow.
Where exactly do I put the folders after I install the APK? Just in the root?

I remember coming across your devart account ages ago and saw some Sam and Max, Nicktoons, Adventure Time etc. Any plans of using them in a future game? Pretty cool. Though, it must take a heck of a lot of your time.

I just copied the entire contents over to the newly created OpenBOR folder then deleted the stuff for PC, Linux etc.

haha but i remember i was very disappointed by he-man live action film with him, i still think its bad, designs were changed on purpose, he-mans armor looks weird not like on toys at all, and ive seen concept art which means they did it on purpose.I like dolph in rocky and universal soldier tho.

That's the whole point, it's so cheesy that it makes for perfect fan service. You put Lion-O in there, at least give Dolph some (non-literal) love!

Haha. That would be hilarious, but just thinking about how difficult it would be to get usable shots of Dolph and the his outfit is giving ME headaches. :D

Sorry to necro an old topic, but I can't seem to find any info anywhere, hello I'm a huge fan of the He-Man game.

There is also a TMNT game with a similar style to the He-Man game. It looks just like the classic cartoon, the same way this game looks like the classic He-Man cartoon.

Are you perhaps the creator of the TMNT game also?

I was wondering if you are still working on it or has it been abandoned?

This is the game I am referring to btw. I joined the discord in the description, the steemit, everything I can find, but I can't get any answers.
