Nice job. It'd be a fantastic system if that d-pad wasn't an abomination.

My dream mod would be to put this d-pad on it.

I would like 6 face buttons just like that controller on an android device.

What about and android version of this.

http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/icade-iphone-gaming-system-turn-your-phone-into-a-proper-handheld-2012073/

Perhaps some enterprising Chinese company should make one of these to work with the new 7inch nexus. All that power and Retro gaming would be heaps of fun.

With better buttons of course, maybe a layout similar to the vita.

Cheers

the Nexus 7 does not allow for sd expansion. That limits how many games you can put on. My Samsung Galaxy S3 has more space

Here is an alternate gamepad that slides out from iPhone and doesn't add that extra bulk that icade does

There are things like this for Android devices. Not very pretty and probably doesn't work with the shoddy HTC Bluetooth stack.

You've done a great job !!

Does the Wii rather have a 512Mb flash memory?
Some more details on the pictures (arrows pointing screw or battery..) would be great !!

Does this battery fit the requirements ?
http://www.batteryspace.com/polymerli-ioncell37v3200mah605585-2c1184wh64arate.aspx

How can you make 48 solder on a so small chip? You're very clever with your hand!!

Congratulation! I really would know how to do this!

Ok I'm going to have to call bullshit on the memory upgrade. It requires a lot more than just installing the chip and re-flashing. I'll post a modding article on how to upgrade the memory soon.

The downside is that only a handfull of flash chips are supported by the allwinner NAND driver (by their manufacturer and device ID), and you can't extend existing storage - it can only show up as its own partition with its own mount point.

In any case I think it was silly that you posted that your flash upgrade worked.

You're right, it didn't end up working in the end. I didn't mean to mislead anyone. I had installed the chip and afterward was getting errors on every boot, so much so that it was painful to even boot into the OS and once there most everything would crash. I then reflashed the Yinlips stock rom and chose format everything. After that, the unit worked normally. Unfortunately I never bothered to check whether or not the new free space was actually available to me after the reflash and before I posted my mods here. As stated above, the Wii only comes with 512mb of flash installed anyway. I dunno how I got it in my head that the Wii came with 8gb. I then ordered a 32gb chip from digikey and actually ended up killing the motherboard in my unit pissing around trying to get things working. :/

I don't know how I missed your first post asking for a more in depth explanation. I was actually waiting until (if and when) I got things working 100% and was going to repost with my results then. I don't check these forums as often as I do some others. Again, sorry for my mistake. I've got a pretty decent rep on some other forums, and its not like me to ever purposely be misleading.

How much is an improvement is that Playstation d-pad mod? How different does it feel from the stiff borderline-unusable stock d-pad? I'd like to know before I go through the trouble of tracking down a PS1 pad and opening it up. Thoughts?

Meh, no worries. I appreciat your list of hacks here. So far I've upgraded the battery in my device (4200mah, just fits), put a copper shim + adhesive heat transfer on the CPU, and changed out the display for a compatible one (Kentec K50DWN0-V1-F). I am pretty sure the display in the device was a clone of this display. It's no brighter, since the backlight driver is the problem, but it seems nicer.

BTW, I think I've fixed the backlight. I have a solution that makes it twice as bright. It'll eat more battery, but it looks a lot better.

Hello Ashen,

I received an unworking stock battery with my yinlips g18a.

In addition to contact the seller I was looking for a replacement battery.

Do you think this one is correct? http://www.all-battery.com/polymerli-ionbattery37v3000mah30149.aspx

Should I connect it to the stock PCB or weld the one which is proposed with the item?

Thanks... :)

Furan,  can you tell me what battery you used? Mine died today and I really love this device. It was only 3 weeks old and I actually bought it on a visit to the yinlips factory :)

Thanks

Battery: PL-5467100-2C http://www.batteryspace.com/polymerli-ioncell37v4250mah5467100-2c157wh85arate-ullisted.aspx
Protection circuit: http://www.batteryspace.com/pcb-for-3.7v-li-ion-battery-8.0a-limit.aspx

Be warned - although the battery fits just fine, it is a tight fit - you will have to move it around a little bit to get things to fit just right. The following might fit easier:

That battery will fit but it's awful big for only being 3000mah. I would go with

So what sort of results have people who have done the battery mod been getting?
Im curious to know what to expect if I go ahead with this mod.

Ok, ty.

With the same PCB than 4250mah you proposed earlier or the stock PCB should be compatible?

Thanks a lot.

Sorry I had been out of town a few days.

Perusing batteryspace it looks like the cell that furan suggested is the best cell available that will surely fit. As long as the protection board you order is made for a 3.7v cell it doesn't matter which one you get. obviously the smaller the better. Personally, I would just rob the protection board from the stock battery.
