Much 78P01_W1 Recoverys
« on: March 24, 2015, 06:06:24 pm »
Hi all!

due the limitations on the Much Snail firmware for getting recovery, and reading that people prefer this firmware because their better battery life, i managed to create a quick way to adding standard recovery to the device.

- Download the Much 78P01_W1 _Recoverys_By_Deen0X.rar file, and unpack on somewhere in your HDD
- Download SP Flash Tool
- Open P_Flash_Tool and go to the file you downloaded and unpacked.
- Now you can select which recovery want to install:
? ? for Normal recovery, select the file: MT6592_Android_scatter_Recovery_On.txt
? ? for CWM recovery, select the file: MT6592_Android_scatter_Recovery_CWM.txt
? ? for default Snail Recovery (for OTA updates), select the file: MT6592_Android_scatter_Recovery_Off.txt

Note about CWM

i don?t know which key is for ENTER (selecting options). if anybody know how to use this version of CWM, let me know for update this guide (and the review)

Hope you found useful this.

(Thanks to skelton for their support)

well, doing some tests, appear that the keys are working well now.

VOL- and VOL+ for move
POWER for select

i don?t know why sometimes the controls are not working...

Awesome work Deen0X! I have been having an issue creating a backup with CWM lately. Something about the file too large. But I'll try installing the Normal recovery and see how that one works.

Note that android recovery stock cannot do backups (nandroids) of the system...

Thanks for the heads up. I was able to make nandroids before. I may have to revert to the last one I made about a month ago, and make my changes carefully.

I am able to successfully make a backup using MTKDroidtools. Is it possible I can use that recovery in the place of CWM?

Hi Deen0X, great job! Can you elaborate on how to flash with MTKDroidTools please? I flashed with SPFlashTool instead, works fine. Currently backing up, will try to flash Snail's new 5.6.27 update afterwards from CWM.

Nevermind, it was easy to figure out!

I have trouble backing up, CWM tries to backup all data (as external SD is mounted as primary storage). Eventually it fails as there seems to be a hard limit on data backup size.

I think one should use advanced backup options and not save data!

Nikojiro - I think TWRP may not have a backup limit, but I haven't flashed it to test. Also, seeing as how we purchased our W1's from Belchine, we should have the same model, but I don't see the update 5.6.27 when I check, it says I am up to date.

Well I was notified and downloaded the update. I made a copy of the update zip before attempting to upgrade, so I have more options. Turns out that the stock recovery was unable to flash. I found out why (I'll spare the crunchy tech details), so I reflashed with SPFlashTool instead, flashed CWM afterwards, and from CWM, flashed both SuperSU update ZIP and the latest 4.2.2 gapps package. Ended up with a rooted device with a functional Play Store and all.

Cool. Very cool! So much easier now with CWM  ;D

Now the update seems to be a very minor one, I was unable to find any noticeable difference, I still need to test things out though.

Is there a TWRP build for the W1? I'm not aware of this...

Nice! And you are running the European firmware correct?

As for TWRP, I am still having the nandroid issue, in which I think CWM does place a cap on data for backing up. I was hoping there was a TWRP build, which doesn't have a cap. I've used CWM to make a backup in the past when I first got the phone, and it worked flawlessly, so I am sure it is the data, since I have loaded a ton of games on the phone since then. My backup probably exceedes 10 GB.

But as long as I can use MTKDroidTools to backup and restore, I'm good.

Keep us posted on the update. Even if you feel the need to release it into the wild for others to flash......he he he! ;D ;)

Hey Deen0x. I'm having trouble installing CWM Recovery onto the phone. I am currently running the stock Snail version of the rom (v5.6.27). I am able to connect the phone to SP Flash Tool but I am not sure what to do in SP Flash Tool. Do I just load the scatter-loading file (in this case "MT6592_Android_scatter_Recovery_CWM") and then click on "Download"? I tried this but the phone just rebooted into the default Chinese Snail recovery.

yes, you're right. i put steps figurin people know how to flash on the phone.

turn off you phone
quit battery
open sp_flash, select file, press download button. the program is now in waiting state for phone
connect the microUSB to the phone (and to PC)
sp_flash will recognize the device and start automatically the flashing process.

note: do not use windows 8

Thanks Deen0x! I've successfully installed CWM Recovery. Now I'm trying to install Google Play Store. After installing the correct version of Google Play services for the device and then installing the latest version of Google Play Store, I am able to open the Google Play Store but then it closes and gives me the error "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped". Do you know how to successfully install Google Play Store without receiving the error? Also, do you know how to remove the Chinese app store ("Mian-Store") and the other Chinese software that comes pre-installed with the latest Snail firmware? I really appreciate the help!

Thanks for the link I tried it and the patched Google Play Services and patched Google Play Store but I still recieved the error. However, I was able to fix the issue using another method.
