Choosing an android device to replace a dingoo a320
« on: June 11, 2012, 09:36:59 PM »
Hello everyone.

I currently have a Dingoo A320 but I'm kind of tired of its tiny screen and its tiny size, witch doesn't really matches my large hands.
So those Yinlips and JXD devices really look promising, but they all seem to have defaults, and I'm not really sure which one I want to get.

I would like to get a console at least as reliable as my dingoo, and with which I could do the same things but on a bigger screen :
So I would use it mainly to emulate pre-psx consoles : NES, SNES, GB(C), GBA, SMS, GEN, GG, plus some Amiga, CPS1/2, MAME, NEO GEO, PCE...
Are all those things even possible on a s5110/G16/G18 ?

Secondly, are the controls of those devices worse than the dingoo's ones (I am mainly worried by the D pad) ?

Finally, the quality of the touch screen doesn't really matter, I don't plan on playing touch games at all. But the quality of the screen itself (colours, ghosting, etc...)  does matter, even if I'm kinda used to the not-so-great Dingoo's screen.

So any advice would be appreciated, especially from people who have migrated from the Dingoo to one of those machines !

This has been asked a lot of times, search youtube or google for reviews, there are lots for each but they say mostly the same. The d-pads are not good (4 separated buttons insted of a normal one), the analog sticks are not analog, and all those system you listed have emulators for Android, the hardware specs are enough for most of it but Android has some audio lag in many emulators.

The "dingoo succesor" seems to be the GCW Zero but it's not finished yet, maybe you need that, there's a thread here in the forum and some reviews on youtube.

Thank you for your answer.

I've already looked at many youtube videos and still can't figure if the defaults of the android handhelds are acceptable or not.
As for the GCW Zero, it's not really what I'm looking for, because it is only slightly bigger than a dingoo.

My wife has a Samsung Galaxy S II.  Would the emulators behave identically on a S II and on a g18/s5110 ? If yes I could try the emulators on the S II to see if I'm satisfied with the quality of the emulation.

Mmm, from the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S II from here it looks like it has a dual core cpu, all the Yinlips and JXD handhelds are single core, so the performance will be different. Anyway, you can try them in the Samsung Galaxy to check the compatibility of the emulators or to have some idea of their limitations (if it runs bad in the Galaxy, it'll probably run bad in the others).

Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 is what s601 & s5110 is using.

s5110 has better everything over s601, but s601 can run faster (with cusom roms) for some reason then the s5110.  s5110 has ICS 4.0 running on it.

They each have stuff the other needs.

s5110 Needs faster processor and better button dpad layouts and captive screen.
s601 - Needs better button dpad , better screen resolution & size, hdmi out, ICS support, OTG support, etc. stronger shoulder buttons.
Yinlips - Needs better custom rom support and not to use the "game manager" for games buttons

I heard the Yinlips XXX-A is better over all. If they coudl get custom roms and the game manager out of it then it would be the best overall.  Close second is the s5110 for right now. Just need them to fix the CPU speed. :( Advertised dual core 1.2ghz, but stuck at 600mhz.. ewwwwww...

s601 and s5110 are mono core, not dual core. There is no a dual core android console..... yet.
I don't accept PM messages. I am tired of them. Use forum to consult me anything.
