Rockchip one?  It's even in worse shape for linux + xbmc than the allwinners...

Amlogic based is only way to go for now, but I'm waiting for the Oval Elephant "Smart TV Box" with the M6(dual core).

Their M3(single core) has a heatsink and really runs @ 1GHz... j1nx has one of them now and is trying to see if it's close enough to the Xios DS to shoehorn their firmware onto it... (linux firmware, presumably)

interesting. i'll check for info about these dual core devices (willgoo listed on his store).
i'm so interested on test one of these to check his performance for retro-gaming and android based games (such mass effect and similars)

Heh.  I was going to post the Oval Elephant link, but it looks like all that they're selling now is the Amlogic M3 smart tv box thing...   

They also had v2 of mk802(was that it's genero name?  I've already forgotten, anyways with the HDMI clamping circuit and axp209 power reg...) but they seem to be gone now...

That doesn't give me much confidence in the rockchip dual core one unless you're happy with android and one or two(if you're lucky) updates and custom firmwares... but to me the amlogic based boards seem to be the better bet ATM, but then again I'm also interested in being able to run linux of some sort plus able to rebuild/update kernel with everything working...

...now if we just had a cubieboard with an amlogic SoC...

Hey guys, I am debating between building an HTPC, replacing my old WD media player or just getting one of these android on a stick devices.

Would the android devices be good if I want to run HD video? Can they handle large .mkv files, mp4, and other HD video formats?

Also, if I used the Netflix app and any other online streaming services, would they be in HD?

seriously you need to NOT support an allwinner based device and move on over to Amlogic who has coughed up quite a bit of source code, as in enough to rebuild their kernels v. BLOBs, and have moved along enough to help with Android AND linux XMBC... meanwhile allwinner has sat on their thumb(and pissed off the few people who actually cared and could do something)
