When it gets here what is the andriod util to find out the ram, speed, etc?  Could setcpu be used on this device?

yeah and you can use quadrent standard for the bench mark test its free on google play

Well Chainfire3D is only for 3D gaming or do you mean a bench mark test with and with out? as I can't see that making a differece as I though it was hardware related...

BTW Just join the rikomagic forums as its all about the MK802..

Android System Info by Electric Sheep IIRC also gives you a good deal of the info on the hw and sw build, etc.  Doesn't do any benchmarking though. (Free on the market.)

Dropped it to $219, so it's being an expensive weekend for me.  (Had been planning to buy a mid-rangish digital camera but they just(literally as in a few minutes ago while I was pondering/researching) dropped another $30 off that one so they snagged me.  Also had been looking at the Canon SX260 but it's $300 although picture quality is supposed to be a bit better, but v. almost $200... no need to bother going to Target to look at them have SX260 and ZS19k(SZ20 w/o GPS $50 less MSRP, but now it costs MORE than the ZS20...)

That was QUICK back to $250 today Lumix DMC-ZS20/TZ30... mk802 looks to be delivered tomorrow sometime...

Maybe also the other toys unless the third part carriers unnecessarily stall delivery to protect their 1d deliveries... i.e. the "toys" are already here at their hub, just be a marketing gaming situation to delay them until tuesday...

Mine's been here since VERY early yesterday morning, but I'm concerned that it's status hasn't been changed to out-for-delivery yet, given it's already 10:30a here... once again I'm getting a device but my uSD (16GB class 6) won't be here until sometime later in the week... camera might also be in today...

Mine's here.  Need to go track down my kb and swipe the mouse from my desktop, then I'll test it running android, then make(or download) a lubuntu boot image...  Going to at least try Android this afternoon so that I know that I got a functional unit(never know)... might not get around to/have time for lubuntu today.

Well this is a quick abort, mini HDMI and all I've got on hand are micro and full size and adapters for both... time for the rat shack maybe if they're not egregiously overpriced worst buy and the ilk...

Well that was quick.  Rat shack as egregiously overpriced as worst buy, however I DID find them at Sears of all places but didn't want to drive the "close" one that has one(maybe) in stock, so I check of all places kmart and they've got the exact same cable for HALF the price $8! (These two are pretty much the same company nowadays.) 

Frightening, I may be setting foot in a kmart for the first time since returning the Augen Gentouch 78, which when I purchased it was the first time in one for well over a decade... Unfortunately not an adapter but a 6' mini to full HDMI cable, but it'll work and I get the feeling that I'll not see much of mini HDMI anyways...

Also came across this something about ESD with the HDMI ports of the original units:

Seems like newer production runs address this, and mention something about vent holes, but not exactly sure what/where they mean as the provide no pics... might have to crack it open AFTER I see IF this one actually works first.

Well, I must have the old one as what I thought might be vent holes, one was the LED(power), and the other (reset)?

The new batch with the fix are supposed to have 2 vent holes on the back IIRC and use a different flash chip.

Ran it long enough to see that it works(720p TV), and setup market(works) but not much available on stock, or at least in the apps that I have purchased. i.e. no fpse, etc.

Got quite warm in that little bit of usage, about 80F room temp... if I had a dremel I'd be tempted to drill some vent holes of my own, might just run it with half the plastic shell or maybe move it to another enclosure altogether...

Running android system info(electric sheep) it looked like the text was shifted a bit offscreen, and one notifications text ran off the bottom but the soft keys etc. were all visible.  Stock browser ran as expected, feel like I'm back in the TV browser days... forget what they called those things.

Next step lubuntu, going to use the version from the above linked forums(minland or something) as it's being updated frequently... couldn't get through to the xbmc site this morning to check on progress, but I'm hoping soon as I'm planning to mostly use this for video/audio/etc. streaming to TV.

Going to do another post, so it's obvious.

I'm not so sure that I'm going to be using this particular device as I've been reading further about ESD/HDMI and it seems that this means that it could take out the mk802's HDMI port and/or the TV/monitor's HDMI port, so you MIGHT want to be careful unless you're sure you've got a newer one with the ESD clamp chips, which is not a certainty even on the latest ones it appears.  (From miniand, they're apparently talking to the mfg about this and some other things.  Had no luck(as expected) in getting source from mfg with the usual BS response of oh someone will copy the GPLed code ffs!)

So between the heat and the ESD, oh and they're apparently also missing power regulation as well(talk about cutting corners, nobody does it like the Chinese on the worst items to cut) I'm putting this thing on the backburner as I'd rather have my TV and new monitor working than taking a chance on this thing.

Just to be clear since I'd forgotten to mention it originally the above linked one DOES include ESD clamping and DOES have power regulation.  Not sure if it boots from uSD yet, still researching it... might just order one and see where I can dump the mk802 as I go...

This is why you should do your homework instead of just more or less blindly ordering something...  (well I did some research, but obviously NOT enough of it... as I never heard of the ESD/power problems until today, this afternoon actually.)

Looking on that oval elephant site, I searched for mk802 and got the listing of white/black mk802(out of stock, and I now know why) and their "oval elephant"(mk802 replacement) and the mk802 pages specifically state:

Oops.  I was wrong they're getting a "limited" shipment on the 12th(Thursday), and I guess the rest still expected on the original 20th date.

Found an interesting video too, Charbax doing a tour of the "factory" where they "make"(assemble the PCB/housing more accurately), tour is first part, then interview with sales manager/owner.  Funny when he tries to hit them at the BOM and starts adding up ballpark numbers of the components...

(free clue these are REALLY cheap to make, probably ~ $25-30 for PCB + shell + PSU + cables + box would be my guess, esp. given that the oval elephant not skimping sells at about the same price and only just missed shaving off $5 more by not being able to get 1k order by 7/1.)

OK, in the video I can see what they mean about the vent holes now, 5x2 near mini-HDMI port which AFAICT means v2/batch 2 mk802, also has port labelling on case molding.

Mine lacks the vent holes and has no labelling -> v1.

And then from I gather from the miniand guys comments that there is apparently a 3rd batch(maybe this 2nd one?) that may or may not address the ESD problem(still probably NOT the power regulation problem) which was supposedly differentiating by the vent holes, but now I'm confused as Charbax's video is from a while back and he clearly shows the original and newer case(w/ vent holes)...

I'd just stay far away from the mk802 and go for the oval elephant or similar w/o stupid corner cutting.

Probably not the whole TV, more likely it'll short it's own HDMI port AND/OR the TV's HDMI port...

Still, personally, I'm done with mine... getting something with power regulation and ESD protection like the oval elephant...

I'm stuck with my mk802 unless I can find someone to sell it too though... of course now I feel kinda bad since I paid about $30 more for it than buying from china or what the oval elephant will be/is so I'll be losing money on mine when I sell it since I plan to just ask what they're typically selling for or about $70 + shipping.
